reporter: it is for best metal performance. >> is pretty overwhelming, exciting and nerve-racking at the same time. >> reporter: the song is called "humanicide." is about the end of the human race by the human race., and -- >> it is a well executed uplifting dark thrash song. >> reporter: death angel began 30 years ago. the original band? five kids of filipino descent. all kids from daly city and concord. their parents brought them to a kiss concert. they got hooked. >> within five minutes of seeing them i knew that is what i wanted to be when i grew up. >> that is what we wanted to do with our lives. >> reporter: as for the band's name? >> who names their band death angel? if you interview the other guys 14-year-old kids do. >> reporter: one night. >> they walked into a bookstore and saw this novel called death angel and that's the name. >> we wanted something like black sabbath, to us that was the coolest band name. >> reporter: the original band included gus and dennis, andy, rob, and mark. death angel helped define the >> think avmetaas very it is something that just gels a very well with a teenaged angst., and their music, i am well familiar with it from hearing it for so long now. i am getting used to it. but, it is still, you get to love it because that is what they do. >> reporter: the cousins had a blast. they opened for metallica. people magazine wrote about them. but then, while on tour early morning in 1990, a terrible bus accident in the arizona desert. >> we were going fast on the freeway, supposedly going about 80 or 75 miles an hour. >> the driver fell asleep and lost control. >> we just kind of flipped over and went on our side. and slid like that for hundreds and hundreds of feet. >> reporter: the drummer suffered severe injuries. the record label dropped them. legal problems follow them. >> we were inside of a nightmare at that point in time. >> reporter: the band disbanded. >> i had enough of it, enough of the music industry. i was better i guess. >> reporter: they went their own ways, made their music. about a decade later a benefit concert for a sick musician brought everyone back together. >> [ music ] >> reporter: today, only mark and rob remain from the original band. rob has a son. >> i just mainly see him as my dad. he is a really cool dude. >> reporter: the current lineup for the past decade include ted, damien, and will carol. they are all going to the grammys. >> it is very well deserved. i think. >> this is really happening. >> we grew up watching the grammys. >> if it wasn't for music i would probably southern california . he supposed to have performed a tribute to slain rapper nipsy hustle. but is now sitting in jail. reporter amy johnson has been following the case. >> reporter: an early morning raid at the chatsworth home of rapper yg or keenan jackson. >> completely off guard by this because he has no idea what they are talking about. they arrested him on suspicion of robbery. >> reporter: we spoke to his new york attorney, joe tockapina by phone. >> they took him away and one police car, his child and his child mother and another police car. this kind of law enforcement action is usually reserved for violent gang members. not for a rapper. it seemed a little excessive quite frankly . the way they went in there and the amount of law enforcement that responded. they came up with nothing. >> reporter: the rapper's hollywood hills home was raided back in july after the suv was involved in a suit and deadly shootout. shots were fired from the suv and a 65-year-old man on a bicycle was struck and killed. yg denied being in the vehicle or knowing anything about it. >> this has nothing to do with that, all they tell us is that he's been arrested on suspicion of robbery based on an ongoing investigation. >> reporter:'s attorney believes the client is being targeted by law enforcement.? something that unfortunately he and others like him have become accustomed to to you. >> thank you for that. a deadly factory explosion rocked the houston area today. two people were killed and as johnny fernandez reports, nearby neighborhoods were shaken up. >> reporter: smoke drifted from the rubble of a houston factory hours after it exploded in the middle of the night. people in the area were shaken out of bed. >> i thought someone had hit my house or through a bomb or something like that. >> reporter: the explosion leveled the factory and severely damaged a number of houses in the area. officials say a gas called propylene was leaking after the blast but has been stopped. crews are conducting air- quality assessments. >> we are not getting any negative readings. we are not, we don't have any hazards that we can report as far as air quality. >> reporter: police do not believe the explosion was intentionally set off but because there were fatalities a criminal investigation is underway. nearby residents are being asked to check the property for potential evidence. >> look for any debris, any body parts, anything that may be related. >> reporter: federal agents will be joining local officials to investigate what happened. johnny fernandez, cbs news. lyft and uber of being slammed on social media for implementing search pricing as customers were trying to flee an active shooter situation in seattle. riders were desperately trying to get on the downtown area wednesday night while police were investigating gunfire that left one person dead and seven wounded. one customer said typical fairs suddenly skyrocketed, some more than $100. >> to take advantage of a high need, or the high demand due to an active shooter situation is terrifying. because, it is terrifying to think of the highest bidder getting access to safety while the rest of us are like forced to sit there. >> reporter: lyft issued a statement that "when we learned what happened, we implemented a cap on primetime pricing." both lyft and uber said riders would be reimbursed. doctors have diagnosed 34 u.s. service members with traumatic brain injuries in the wake of this month's iranian missile attack on u.s. forces in iraq. the pentagon says that some are being treated in the united states and germany. others have returned to duty after the january 8th attack. president trump initially said no u.s. service members have been harmed. and, earlier this week he downplayed the severity of the brain injuries. a powerful earthquake sent people rushing out of buildings in eastern turkey, at least 18 people were killed and more than 500 injured. a couple dozen people were trapped inside collapsed buildings. the quake was a magnitude 6.8. turkey's president said all measures are being taken to come away with this with the least amount of loss. the country's interior miniit w earthquake preparedness when the quake struck. united states has rejected britain's request to extradite the wife of a u.s. official. she is suspected of killing an english teenager in a hit and run accident last year. cbs's email may ian lee is in london with a diplomatic fight. >> reporter: five months after harry dunn died in a motorcycle accident, his family is still waiting for justice. >> nothing is going to make us go away. >> reporter: but their fight just got more difficult. u.s. officials now refusing to send their sons alleged killer back to britain. she was allegedly behind the wheel and driving behind the wrong side of the road in english countryside when she crashed into him. she claimed diplomatic immunity and quickly flew back to america. the uk foreign secretary called the u.s. decision not to extradite anne sacoolas disappointing tweeting " we feel this amounts to a denial of justice and that anne sacoolas should return to the uk. we are now urgently considering our options.
