Behind new york. And transportation Officials Say the city is seeing more cars than ever due to uber and lyft. So chances of conflict are much higher between bicyclists, pedestrians, and cars, all competing on these narrow streets. Keep in mind, most of the daytime population is concentrated in the downtown area. Thats also where many of the fatalities occur. In 2014, the city launched vision zero to reduce fatalities. Since then, city workers added more protective bike lanes. Constructed street calms measures and updated Traffic Signals to give pedestrians more time and a head start in the crosswalk. But critics say without drastic measures they wont be able to cut pedestrian fatalities down to zero any time soon. Walk sf is a nonprofit that advocates for pedestrian safety. What more can the city do . We need drivers to Pay Attention to the rules of the road and follow them and we need the sfpds help in enforcing those rules. We also need to change speed limits in San Francisco, 20 is plenty. If you get hit by a car going 40 miles an hour, your chance of survival is really low. Reporter lowering speed limits and using automated Speed Enforcement requires approval from state lawmakers which they say is unlikely to happen. Also just last night in concord, a 63yearold man in a wheelchair was killed as he crossed the road near willow pass and park side drive. Police dont think the woman was impaired and said she is cooperating with the investigation. Now, we switch gears to one of the prime movers behind accidents on the road. That is the showers that already are beginning to fall in the north bay and in San Francisco. Some action in the east bay clearing skies earlier today. But showers are moving in. At this hour, and on the kpix5 highdef doppler, the move for these, a low pressure around mendocino. But as we move the doppler in, you see where the snow is falling not only up in the northern mountains but the northern sierra. In the bay area, theres the showers. North of san pablo bay. Getting ready to move in. They have already moved into the city. Well see some of this sort of activity tonight. Which is on again off again showers. And, some could come down pretty good. But by the time all is said and done, about a quarter of an inch maybe. Showers tonight and we dry it out midweek. So, tonight, a cold front moves out around the bay area. The showers move with it. The chp says all four strikes happened yesterday between 3 00 p. M. And about 6 20 p. M. There have been 55 reported incidents in the area since february. There is a 14,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. San jose police made an arrest in the citys 32nd homicide of the year, 18year old carlos gomez is accused of shooting the 25yearold victim early yesterday near south white road and florence coat. Gomez was later found hiding out in a nearby home. Meanwhile, police in pittsburgh are searching for a pair of mass gunmen who broke into a mans home overnight and shot him dead. Investigators say the men entered the residence on haven wood circle just after midnight and confronted everybody inside before firing at the 30year old victim. They took off in a gray or silver sedan and police are working to confirm reports the victim knew his killers. And the shooting was the result of some sort of prior disagreement. Police in santa cruz are looking for a pair of smash and grab thieves who made off with more than 100,000 worth of jewelry in seconds. They were wearing hoodies and gloves when they broke through the glass door of judy wyant antiques. They put the stolen jewelry in a bag and ran out the door. The entire heist took more than 90 seconds or no more than 90 seconds. Investigators released these know photos of some of the stolen merchandise. Also, a bait bike sting in santa rosa netted four arrests and police set it up on wednesday in response to mounting complaints about bicycle thefts in the downtown area. Hundred of guns gone for food as they teamed up with violence prevention groups for a series of buy backs across the bay area. This one in San Francisco, netted more than 300 firearms. What can we do but get some of the guns out of the community. There was no reason for anyone to experience that. And starbucks apologized for any intentional or unintentional disrespect. Might be something personal. Might not be. I dont know. They were nice to me. Reporter but the sheriff of river side county is calling it like he sees it. Chad bianco tweeted two of our deputies were refused service at starbucks. The antipolice culture displayed by starbucks employees must end. Its not the first time the company has been accused of discriminating against cops. A couple of weeks ago, a starbucks employee in oklahoma was fired after giving an officer a cup with the word pig printed on the label. And six officers in arizona said they were asked to leave a starbucks because they were making a customer nervous. But a Law Enforcement source says these deputies were professional and polite. While many customers inside were able to place their orders. That was nicole comestock reporting. Starbucks says they were not refused service but the company acknowledged the employees were not attentive to them. It added in a statement there is simply no excuse for how two river side deputies were ignored. We are deeply sorry and reached out to apologize directly to them. A weak little cold front is moving south. Weak or not, it is producing showers from the north bay down to palo alto at this hour. First lets show you what it looks like on the satellite. Low pressure is spreading over mendocino tonight. On the tail end of the cold front as a result, it is giving us a little bit of rain, a quarter inch as all is said and done. As we zoom in to the central bay area. You can see the line of showers now extends from about fremont and the newark slew across the peninsula through palo alto. Up around the north bay, things have mostly dried out. But theres a few light showers up there. The main brunt of this is already gone. Its coming down pretty good in the east bay, concord, livermore. As you can see from fremont. Down over the Santa Cruz Mountains and skyline boulevard, good line of showers. If you are caught in that, it will rain like crazy. Briefly. And then it will be gone. As you look at san jose tonight, which will be getting wet by about 7 30 tonight. With the numbers today managed upper 50s and low 60s and it was a mostly dry day. It will be out of here by midnight tonight. And, it will leave us with clearing skies and some patchy fog as we look toward the bay bridge. Bay bridge again is going to have some lane shut down beginning at 11 00 tonight in both directions. Ton suspension span, caltrans is doing some work. The numbers in the upper 40s and 50s. Rain turns to snow in the mountains. 6500 feet. Careful if you are headed out there. But tomorrow afternoon looks okay. Wind speeds are still up. The west, southwest, futurecast says it is out of here, maybe a few popup showers, and then, it just clears out. Later in the day tomorrow. So, sunday should be a spectacular day with the atmosphere being rinsed out lately by the rain we have had. Visibility will be great. So, the showers are spreading south tonight. It will be out of here by tomorrow morning. There will be dense fog. Shower chances come back wednesday. We start tomorrow dry. And we will finish sunny. Numbers tomorrow in the mid 50s. And thats good weather for football. In two instances, the raiders tomorrow were playing in a game broadcast on kpix5. At 1 05 p. M. And, the 49ers are playing at 1 25 p. M. It will be dry and cool. Beautiful sight over across the golden gate bridges. Overnight lows near 40 degrees. Highs in the mid 50s.
