A deadly house Fire Investigation is under way in marin county this morning. We have learned the victim is an elderly woman of novado. Katie nielsen joins us live from the scene with how it all unfolded. Katie . Reporter michelle, so we are athese hot spots are out. We just saw a firefighter using a thermal imaging camera. As of right now, they are not seeing any of those extra hot spots inside the home but this is almost seven hours after the fire started. They finally think they might have it out. The first 911 calls about this fire came in around 10 30 last night saying flames were shooting up out of the roof. When firefighters arrived and trying to get insidehe house, they were blocked by what they call a large amount of items stored inside the home and attic, making it hard for firefighters to find the elderly woman who was trapped inside. Because of all of the fuel loading inside, it is very difficult to extinguish all of the fires. They have to pull a lot of material out. Never saw her. Never really paid much attention to the house even though i walked around the neighborhood. Why did you think nobody lived there . It was always dark. It was dark. Never saw anybody going in and out. Firefighters eventually found the 84yearold woman, brought her outside and attempted cpr but she ended up passing away from her injuries. Some neighbors tell me that she was out shopping earlier in the day. She came home around 7 30. The fire started at 10 30 so this morning, fire investigators will be here as soon as the sun comes up to try to figure out exactly how this fire started. Live in novado, Katie Nielsen, kpix 5. Im anne makovec at the live news desk. Nancy pelosi stepped up to the podium to make a major announcement. Lets listen in. It becomes necessary for more people to dissolve the political which connected them with another. With those words, our founderser declaration of independence from an oppressive monarch from among other grievances, the kings refusal to follow rightfully passed laws. It becomes necessary for us to address, among other grievances, the president s fail your to faithfully execute the law. When crafting the constitution, the founders feared the return of a monarchy in america and specifically feared the prospect of a king president , corrupted by foreign influence. During the constitutional convention, james madison, the architect of the constitution, warned a president might be to foreign powers which might prove fatal to the republic. Another founder said the president may be bribed by a greater interest to betray his trust. He emphasized the magistrate is not the king. The people are the king. They created a constitutional remedy to protect against the dangerous or corrupt leader, impeachment. Unless the constitution contains an impeachment provision, one founder warned, a president might, quote, spare no effort or means whatsoever to get himself reelected. Similarly, george mason invisited that a president who pro cured might repeat his guilt and return to power. During the debate over impeachment at the constitutional convention, george mason also asked, shall any man be above justice, that man be above it who can commit the most extensive injustice. In his great wisdom, he knew injustice committed by the president erodes the rule of law, the very idea that a fair justice, which is the bed rock of our democracy. And if we allow a president to be above the law, we do so surely at the peril of our republic. In america, no one is above the law. Over the past few weeks, through the Intelligence Committee working, the Foreign Affairs and over sight committee, the American People heard the testimony of truly patriotic, career public servants, distinguished diplomats and decorated war heroes, some of the president s own appointees. The facts are uncontested. The president abused his power for his own personal, political benefit, at the expense of our National Security, withholding military aid and crucial Oval Office Meeting in exchange for an announcement of an investigation into his political rival. Yesterday the judiciary committee, the American People heard testimony from scholars who illuminated without a doubt that the president s actions are a profound action of a violation of trust, the actions violated the constitution, especially when he says and acts upon the belief, article 2 says i can do whatever i want. His wrong doing strikes at the very heart of our constitution, a separation of powers. Three coequal branches, each a check and balance on the other. A republic, if we can keep it, said benjamin franklin. Our democracy is what is at stake. The president leaves us no choice but to act. Because he is trying to corrupt, once again, the election for his own benefit. The president has engaged in abuse of power undermining our National Security and jeopardizing the integrity of our election. His actions are in defiance of the vision of our founders and oath of office he takes to preserve, protect, and defend the constitution of the United States. Sadly, with allegiance to our founders and hearts full of love for america, today i am asking our chairman to proceed with articles of impeachment. I commend our Committee Chairs and members for their somber approach to actions which i wish the president had not made necessary. In signing the declaration of independence, our founders invoked a Firm Reliance on divine providence. Democrats, too, are prayerful and will proceed in a manner worthy of our oath of office to support and defend the constitution of the United States from all enemies, foreign and domestic, so help us god. Thank you. That was nancy pelosi, House Speaker, live on capitol hill announcing that she asked the house chairman to proceed with articles of impeachment. She said the president has abused his power for his own benefit and at the expense of our National Security. This is not over. That will go to a full vote in the house and then the whole matter will have to go to the senate. They will have their own trial. They will have their own vote.
