Reporter this all began as a reported call of a possible Home Invasion robbery involving four massed men. The officer in question was heading to that call down the street. Redwood city police say the officer had begun a emergency response. From james avenue just a few blocks away i was heading southward. These nearby surveillance cameras capture the whole thing. Employees who saw the footage said a man had jay walked and was standing on the median. Just then, the officer lost control of the car, went up onto the median, hit the man, struck the cars on the other side of the road and came to a rest on the sidewalk. A witness who was driving right behind patrol car and saw the whole thing tells us the female officer was visibly shaken, but appeared to be physically on injured. The officer climbed out of the passenger window and retrieved the knight who was also uninjured. Airmen extracted the drivers and the other cars and they were released on scene. As for the pedestrian . Redwood city police say the injuries are serious. It is very sad, it is too bad. I hope the man that was hit will be okay. Reporter it is unclear what caused the officer to lose control of the squad car. The roll was the road was wet at the time of the crash but these photos show the roads were relatively dry and that the witness said it was not raining, but instead was heavily misting. The Redwood City PoliceDepartment Website list three officers as k9 units. We think we know this officer is but we will hold off on identifying her until we can get confirmation.
