He had literally been the best qualified person ever to hold the job. Ed lee earned the title by a demonstration of being an efficient person that could manage a huge enterprise like San Francisco. Reporter he was the head of the San FranciscoHuman Rights Commission in the 90s, then the public works director and city administrator before becoming mayor. He grew up in Public Housing in seattle and worked as a civil rights attorney representing low income tenants. His Public Service continued as moisture serving turkey to those in need. He cared about the nuts and bolts of the city. That was clear as his legacy as mayor. Reporter he worked to merge the Tech Industry into San Francisco and tried to stop homelessness and defended the citys sanctuary policies and worked for lgbt rights. We are celebrating diversity as a city. Everybody knows they can belong here in San Francisco. That is what i am proud to be a mayor of. Reporter and he made his mark on politics across the bay. Was called a mentor. In this rough and tumble world of politics, he truly was a beacon of generosity and compassion. He clearly had a lot more to do and a lot more to give to this city. It happened scary moments in the Oakland Hills after powerful fires started after a four alarm blaze from a home under construction in the montclair neighborhood. Embers quickly ignited at least five other buildings. At least two homes were destroyed and neighbors say the scene brought flashbacks to 1991 Oakland Hills inferno. The cause of this fire is under investigation. Oakland city workers are back on the job but still without a contract. Workers suspended their week long strike yesterday after both sides sat down with a mediator. One of the ways they are doing that is with a 45 million expansion of their national terminal. The new International Arrival buildings doubles the capacity of the terminal.
