Reporter paramedics rushed 22 victims to sf general last night and 20 have since been released, two remain in fair condition. The focus has turned to how this happened. Chp officers can from alcohol was not a factor and say theyre lucky no one died in the crash. It looks bad when i got here. Many victims standing on the side of the freeway, waiting for paramedics. Next to them, a woman getting treatment from a paramedic. The victims were all dressed up, most of them in their 20s and 30s. Weve got a red alert up on the highway and are going to need at least 3 to 4 more ambulance. Reporter the driver of the private charter bus says he was taking them from San Francisco to the crowne plaza in palo alto. We confirmed they were heading to a Holiday Party, hosted by a company that offers online classes. Chp officers did a preliminary visual inspection of the overturned bus and found no problems. They will do an indepth inspection next week. The bus belongs to charter brothers. The bus started fishtailing and then it flipped over. To the tires blowout or what . If not, was he distracted . Was he on his cell phone . After more than a decade of planning, the pediatric campus opened its doors. The state of the art facility covered with animal statues and mosaics. Is more than double the size of the old campus with 150 additional patient beds. The hospital staff says every detail was meticulously planned. They actually mocked up patient exam rooms in a warehouse and allowed staff and family to come in and give us feedback on every little detail, from the placement of electrical outlets, or the placement of the beds and tvs. The families had a huge impact in the design of the space. More than 100 pediatric patients were transferred to the hospital this morning. To help run the facility, the hospital hired more than 500 new staff members. Reporter before the Fire Department made it to this burning home in lodi, two guys were in the neighborhood, delivering water. Do you know of any plans for more evacuations . Reporter im not sure of any fresh evacuations, but i know one thing firefighters were trying to avoid is the fire jumping into Santa Barbara county. Now, that is two counties where the thomas fire is burning, affecting people. We will have to see what the wins have overnight. It could be something that has happened overnight. We seen since the fires have broken out, evacuations called for overnight. It can move quickly when it moves. Danielle nottingham, thank you. The California Office of Emergency Services has been working roundtheclock since the thomas fire broke out monday. Early this week, the office sent out a text alert to 12 million smartphones in 12 counties warning people to be ready to evacuate on a moments notice. Back in october, the office faced heavy criticism for not sending out a similar alert in santa rosa. We did that because if we have learned anything from what we saw in santa rosa, that is that when the overnight hours come, you have high winds, and there is a fire that starts, those can move within hours. The Emergency Operations center is coordinating National Guard efforts, shelter locations and communications with school districts. It will be running 24 hours a day until fires settle down.
