Ken bastida has the night off. While that fire rages in lake county, another ripped through delta. This is what firefighters are up against tonight. A heelsburg firefighter on one of the Sonoma County strike teams posted this video. They are headed for the front lines of the rocky fire. Cate caugurian is there for us tonight. Cate . Reporter well allen, this fire here is growing in all directions. We are keeping an eye specifically on the one behind us. If you take a look. Now for a moment, we actually thought we would have to leave the area because it was moving pretty quickly. I with hear it roaring and feel the heat from the fire. Some nearby neighbors say it is the sight of this ominous glow that will keep them up at night. Im scared to death. You know. Im just scared to death. Over 10,000 gallons of fire retardant. Reporter it looked like a drop in the bucket compared to the thousands of acres burning. So tiny dropping this little bit of water on this fire that is madly out of control. Reporter jim came back to his house after he thought it was safe. As we drove back, the flames were still spotty here and there. Then i realized within an hour or two i shouldnt be here. Reporter more than 600 firefighters from all over the bay area and Southern California in the air and engines and on foot furiously fighting the flames. This drought made for some serious spotting across the lines. Reporter despite the firefighters best efforts, the wind picked back upbringing new life to the fire. And with triple digit heat, the flames ripped through more acres. Lake county with dry brush and rugged terrain make it one of the worst landscapes for firefighters. Nothing is stopping it. It is impossible to put it out. Reporter so far, jims home is safe. But stevens Wilderness Ranch is gone. We have to face our Worst Nightmare to have your entire place burn up. But you know, it is just something you have to go through. It is not the end of the world. Seems like you are pretty optimistic. I have to be. Reporter take a look guys. I really am hearing a lot of roaring. You saw two minutes ago, the flames were really low, now they are surging. I have never seen a fire grow this fast this quickly. I know the firefighters are hoping the cooler temperatures give them some reprieve, but it is only growing. It was the perfect storm for fire conditions out here. You have the windy weather, the Mobile Home Park had a number of propane tanks on it. Those exploded during the fire. And then firefighters had a tough time getting here on these winding levee roads. Tonight, it is nothing more than a charred smoldering pile of debris off a roadway. Sheila who has been coming here for years is still in shock. I have no words. I dont have any words. Oh god why . Reporter firefighters still dont know why or how the fire at pirates lair began. Only that it sparked at the roadside and spread so quickly that the three engines that arrived could not get a handle on it. This park is so remote. The wind was blowing the fire so quickly. By the time firefighters got here, many of the trailers were already engulfed and a total loss. On top of that, we also had other area agencies that were already fighting fires and on other emergency calls that limited our resources. Investigators want to know if someone is deliberately setting them. There were three small fires last night. All in the lafayette area. The night before, another fire burned about eight acres in that same area. New information about the man who died after a fight with San Francisco cops. Turns out 57yearold filimoni reowa was wanted for beating an elderly man he cared for. His confrontation started at the palace of fine arts. He attacked two officers before several others pinned him down. He was conscious, breathing, talking while handcuffed. Within minutes, officers noticed he was not breathing. Tonight, the two officers are out of the hospital. Police are waiting for autopsy and toxicology reports to see if the suspect was under the influence. Tonight, there was a private burial ceremony for Hayward Police officer scott lunger who was killed in the line of duty. But earlier, thousands paid their respects at a Funeral Service in oracle arena. Betty yu was there. We heard lots of people speak, but his two daughters were especially powerful. Reporter they were. Both of his daughters gave really moving speeches that spoke to the lessons their dad talked them. They talked about their saidness, their pain, and the reasons why he is a hero. Reporter Sergeant Lunger died in the line of duty last wednesday. He was shot and killed seconds after he pulled over a man in this white pickup for erratic driving at 3 14 a. M. Police say he lured eightyear old Maddy Middleton to his apartment with the promise of ice cream and then sexually assaulted and strangled her. We have to review the information, investigate. Sources tell the chronicle that adrian told the police he was thinking about suicide and killed the girl to see how people would react. A friend who knew him in middle school says she urged him to get help. He did threaten suicide a couple of times. But, it didnt feel super serious. And, above all, i would never think he would do Something Like this. Adrian is charged with murder. He will be tried as an adult. The judge gave him two months to enter a plea. Newly released Surveillance Video thoughs the moments leading up to the shooting in louisiana in the theater. The shooter john houser is seen buying a ticket to the movie trainwreck last thursday. A man cleaning the beach says he found what appears to be a suitcase. Here it is. You can see it is ripped to shreds but it is still zipped. Theres a lot of speculation it came from the missing plane. So far, there is no confirmation of that. But the bag is part of the investigation. The worker found the suitcase near where a six foot long piece of a plane washed up. Sources tell cbs news that the debris is from a boeing triple 7. It is part of a flaperon. It will be taken to france for more analysis including examining the barnacles to see if it resembles something submerged 500 days. This is a significant development. It is the first real evidence that there is a possibility that a part of the aircraft may have been found. The flaperon is part of the wing that helps control the aircrafts speed on landing. It was discovered on reunion island, 2300 miles west of the current search zone in the indian ocean. Debris could have floated that far pulled by ocean currents and the discovery would likely not change the search area. Reporter Kristi Wilson has let her lawn go brown. She keeps her plants alive with water collected from buckets in her shower. We probably save close to 10 gallons a day just doing that. Reporter kristis efforts along with many neighbors sporting brown lawns have put los altos near the top in terms of bay area water conservation. The city cut its water use by 40 in june. Part of a 35 overall cut in the Santa Clara ValleyWater District. As a whole, the bay area saved 32 . It is a reason for optimism among local Water Districts. Not a finish line. Not a victory. But, as a good checkin point that we can do it.
