We are talking about officers from around the state. 48yearold Sergeant Scott lunger was killed a week ago yesterday during an Early Morning traffic stop in a hayward residential neighborhood. The sergeant was the father of two daughters. He had been with the Hayward Police department for 15 years. Outside of police headquarters, friends, colleagues, firefighters and people who didnt even know him came to pay their respects over the past week. About 10,000 people are expected here today. If i could just ask that you come out and support us as we actually celebrate what scott gave to this community with his work ethic, with his tenaciousness, the mentoring, the leadership and the coaching, that would be the great honor that you could give our police department. Crews found flames burning at the front of the building. They got the fire under control a couple of hours ago. That house that caught fire appears to be under construction or renovation. A wildfire in lake county ballooned overnight from 500 to 3,000 acres. The worsening conditions have prompted mandatory evacuations for hundreds of people. Some good news on the economy which we were hoping for after that dreadful start to the year. In the 2nd quarter the Commerce Department says that gdp was up 2. 3 thanks to a strong rebound in Consumer Spending on some big ticket items. Cars and trucks also homebuilders were much more active. The 1st quarter was also revised slightly higher from a loss to a slight gain. Economy expected to continue moving along at this current pace at least through the 3rd quarter into the fourth. And the job market has been a strength although we did see a rise in jobless claims this past week. Labor says claims are up by 12,000 to 267,000. But thats coming after claims were down at a more than 4 decade low. Still suggesting job growth. Facebook looking for a better reception on wall street than what its social media rivals twitter and yelp received yesterday when they were absolutely pummeled on their earnings results. Facebook turned in very strong results. Revenue up nearly 40 to more than 4 billion. Mark zuckerberg says its user base is spending more time on the site every day. Facebook shares though are down slightly in early trading. Market overall is pulling back after two straight strong sessions. Lets look at the big board and see how were doing so far. Dow giving up about 90. Nasdaq down 28. S p is moving lower by 11 points. Good news for yelp and twitter. Shares in each company are moving slightly high they are morning. Back to you. It may seem routine to require bicyclists to obey traffic laws but cyclists in San Francisco are saying, well, they shouldnt have to. Police are cracking down on cyclists and drivers as part of a new traffic campaign. People are getting busted for things like red light violations, failing to stop for pedestrians, and stop signs. But cyclists protested yesterday saying police should focus attention on the drivers. We believe that the more potential you have to cause harm on our streets, the more responsibility you have. The Bike Coalition says the protest also sought to demonstrate that when cyclists stop at all the stop signs, it causes a complete traffic mess. Speaking of traffic, lets check in with gianna. When they look at it as the murder of a small child and what else happened to that small child, they felt that this crime rose to the level that he needed to face societys greater punishment.
