As it stands the city has agreed to 4 Salary Increase the first year of it contract but rejected any increases the second year. The mayor was in our studio to defend her position. Im tremendously disappointed that the workers are going on strike tomorrow because we have not reached impasse. We have been in good faith negotiating for several months. And both sides agree we have not reached an impasse. So technically this is an unlawful strike, and we will be filing an unfair labor practices action tomorrow. Reporter it means 3,000 City Employees will be on the picket line tomorrow. These includes librarians, cleanup crews, Parking Enforcement officials, nearly every public worker in oakland. 911 dispatchers are not allowed to strike. The union 1021 tones to complain how city departments are understaffed and rely on temporary part time workers. We dont receive the Health Care Plan that fulltime and permanent parttime workers receive. We are also exempt from contributions to the citys retirement plan. Two came across the assault and chased and held turner until police arrived. The only thing unfair about this case is that the judge was unfair to the victim. Reporter stanford law professor leading the effort to recall judge erin persky who sentenced turner to six months, and three years probation. Turner serves three months and was released in 2016. According to turners attorney turner was deprived do aprocess at trial because the prosecution didnt have sufficient evidence he knew miss dough passed the point of reasonable intoxication. In an emailed statement santa claras District Attorney writes quote, brock turner received a fair trial and was justly convicted. His conviction will be up held.
