This man and his lengthy criminal past and questions about why he was not in custody. New information vic . Well first of all, sources close to the investigation says he admitted he shot catherine steinly here n on the pier. Some were controversial, like the relationship between sheriff mirkarimi and ice. Abc7 news learned divers from this boat found a gun yesterday off the waters of the pier. Tests are being done but investigators believe its the one used by sanchez, the man caught that night not far from the shooting is charged with the murder. He has a long rap sheet and has been deported to mexico five times. And ice turned him over to the Sheriffs Office but the d. A. Dropped the case and Sheriffs Office released sanchez. In a statement, ice says it requested notification prior to release so they can take him into custody again. Supervisors approved policies that would prohibit releasing of violent detainers. And he was in custody again on a similar offense. Sheriff mirkarimi carved out a stricter policy which in all cases would require ice to go to court. If there is a court order were issued wed honor that. There were done in this case. Ice says it wanted a simple courtesy of being told sanchez was going to be released. We talked with kates parents about the developments and the investigation. They had nothing but praise for Law Enforcement for making a quick arrest in this case but the case isnt how they want their daughter to be remembered not by any means. He has strong relationships with a lot of students and families as he has for years the questionable relationship was brought to light when the teens mother found Text Messages on her daughters cell phone in june the coach was arrested on thursday at Oakland International airport. He departed a plane returning from the islands of hawaii, hed been on vacation with his wife. Detectives searched the home and the school for evidence. An emergency protective order was issued preventing the coach have having contact with the teen. Christina graduated from a neighboring high school. The School District says all coaches are fingerprinted and complete an activity supervisor clearance and hired on a year to year basis. They would not say whether the coach would return in the fall.
