Visit. Both the president and the first lady are waking up in the bay area this morning ahead. Details on the visit as we inch closer to the november election and tracking a weekend warm up. Meteorologist kari hall is timing out what you can expect as you make your plans. This is today in the bay good friday morning. We made it to so happy that we say that every friday im Ginger Conejero saab. Laura garcia is in our newsroom. We will see her in just a bit. And im scott mcgrew. Marcus is off this morning. First, lets kick things off with a look at what is bound to be a very warm forecast. Yeah, its already warm out there and we are going to heat up even more this afternoon as our temperatures are in the upper 50s. To start, were at 63 degrees in martinez, and then you can see the difference in temperatures from martinez at 63 to 48. In sonoma. The wind has calmed down in some spots and thats allowing those temperatures to drop. But as we get all of that sunshine today, its going to heat up and well hit a high of 91 in fairfield today in concord, 90 degrees. And San Francisco will be in the upper 70s upper 80s for the south bay. And as we take a look at our saturday forecast, expect it to be about the same with low 70s near the coast. While our inland areas will be near 90 degrees. So well talk about when we get a little bit more relief in our forecast. Mike, you heard about a couple of fires out there, lots of activity suddenly in the blotter for the south bay. Heard about a crash just off 680 capital expressway, little brush fire on the shoulder. And i think thats well handled. Now there is also a building fire, reported tully just off of eastridge way. So thats just off capital expressway as well. But were watching for that update, and i dont think there are any injuries. And were going to track that in the newsroom. But just know its there. 101 near shoreline. Theres a crash reported a little bit of slowing. Ill check that out. Chp should get on scene shortly and let us know. And an older crash over near the newark side of the dumbarton bridge, i believe everythings clear. Theres no slowing. Hasnt been a problem. The rest of the bay. Just friday. Its just waking up. Back to you. Thank you. Mike so that warehouse in fremont caught fire around 1215 last night on millmont drive. Crews still working on the scene, working to monitor hot spots, assessing the damage. In fact, we have a live look right now at the scene. The roads just reopening in the area. Crews say the building was a Storage Facility for food preparation. Fortunately nobody was hurt and theyre still trying to figure out what caused that fire. Meantime happening today. A lot on the line for state funded programs, some of which can make all the difference for those who need it. Governor newsom expected to unveil the budget and californias short cash. Well, today in the bays laura garcia is keeping a close eye on this. Shes still getting over a nasty bout of laryngitis, but we made it to friday. Laura. Shes in our newsroom. Laura, there are lots of concerns about just what programs may be cut right, exactly. We made it to friday. Were making it through now. The governors got to make it through this big proposal. We could see a so much slashing going on in this recent budget that is expected to be unveiled. As you mentioned, scott, this morning, this revised state Budget Proposal now, think back to february, when a Nonpartisan Group says the states shortfall could be up to 73 billion in 2022, california had nearly 800 surplus, but now it is such a different financial picture. Thus the slashing expected according to the la times. Heres what could lose money a 40 million funding reduction was proposed, impacting a program that helps prisoners seeking to shorten their sentences through public defenders. Now, if approved, money could come out of a program for those who cant afford private attorneys in the meantime, 30 billion could be slashed under a proposal impacting a 24 7 hotline that helps foster children and their caretakers resolve conflicts and receive support. Child welfare advocates say the move could shut it down altogether. Either. The governor is proposing cuts to a program that offers grants to people and nonprofits to help buy homes at risk of foreclosure , or the goal is that housing remains available to people with low incomes. But 248 million could be slashed over the next three years. Money to fund several Climate Friendly programs is also up on the chopping block. It includes potential cuts to a program that helps mainly oil and gas workers find new jobs. As we know, california is shifting away from fossil fuels. We have a live look at the State Capitol in sacramento, where the governor is expected to announce this revised budget today. Some republicans say the state should have saved more money in its reserves when the financial picture was much better. Its also important to note that these proposals to cut funding are temporary. State lawmakers might give the final approval. Back in january, the california legislators nonprofit fiscal and policy Advisors Office projected. The governors budget includes nearly 22 billion in general fund support for higher education. Thats actually an increase of 226 million. In the meantime, san jose state senator dave cortese is a member of the state budget and Fiscal Review Committee and a budget subcommittee on education. Ahead of todays announcement by the governor, he says in part, quote, we must safeguard our youth, ensuring they are secure, nourished and engaged in learning so they are prepared for todays challenges and tomorrows opportunities. Our focus must also extend to quality, sustainable careers for our teachers who dedicate their lives to helping others. Now Governor Newsoms announcement is set to get underway at 11 00 this morning. State lawmakers must give the approval on a new Budget Proposal by june 15th. Of course, well be following and watching to see what happens to make up for this huge shortfall that were talking about here. Ginger. Thank you. Laura. Developing this morning as well, an investigation into a freeway off ramp shooting that critically injured a man. It happened around six last night on mclaughlin avenue near the two 8101 interchange. For a time , it closed the off ramp. San jose police say the victim was critically injured but is now stable. And its not exactly clear where the shooting happened. Well, its 506 happening today. Students at uc berkeleys law school graduate, and theres a plan to protest in favor of israel. Protesters say they will display a large sign around campus during the commencement ceremony. The students say the billboard will name nine student organizations that signed a petition to ban speakers who support the state of israel from participating in campus events. The billboard will move around the campus today. Well, scott, as those campus protests continue, cease fire negotiations in the middle east are stalling this as israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed his country would stand alone following President Bidens threat to withhold weapons today in the bays brie jackson is live for us in washington and brie on capitol hill. Some gop lawmakers are also up in arms over bidens recent comments. Thats right. Good morning ginger. So President Bidens threat to stop sending certain weapons to israel is being met with mixed reaction, with one israeli official calling it a very disappointing decision, even frustrating. The Biden Administration standing by President Bidens warning that the u. S. Will halt weapons to the Israeli Military if it moves forward with a full scale assault on rafah. Were currently reviewing some nearterm security assistance, specifically, we paused one shipment of weapons consisting of 1800 2,000 pound bombs and 1700 500 pound bombs, weve not made a final determination on how to proceed with this shipment. Some republicans are raising alarms. Mr. President , if you do not change this policy, you will have destroyed the last best chance to deliver lasting stability in the mideast for generations. While other lawmakers support President Bidens decision and raise concerns about the 1 million palestinians sheltering in rafah. Mr. President , we must now use all of our leverage to make to prevent the catastrophe in gaza from becoming even worse. Former President Trump blasted his political opponents threat to cut off weapons to a close ally. Well, i wouldnt do what biden did. He just abandoned israel. Democrats insist the u. S. Stands firmly behind israel. The president is doing the right thing. We want to support israel. We want to make sure that the actions that they take to defend themselves and to stop us terrorism, do not involve innocent people in their lives. Divisions over the u. S. Response to the israelhamas war are expected to play a key role in the decision voters make in the president ial election, and a key concern for President Bidens Reelection Campaign is that voters are unhappy with his handling of the war and will stay home on election day, potentially tipping the scales for former President Trump in battleground states such as michigan, arizona and pennsylvania. Ginger, thank you. Reporting from washington, brie jackson. And in fact, a very good morning to President Biden and the first lady who are waking up in the bay area this morning, a live look at the Fairmont Hotel on San Franciscos nob hill. Thats where the busy couple is staying. The two arrived on separate flights yesterday. Both are expected to attend fundraisers today before going their separate ways. When they leave the bay area tonight, the president will be in seattle. The first lady goes to southern california. Our kris sanchez is in San Francisco previewing their day and the protests, of course, planned by palestinian supporters. Shell have a live report in the next half hour. Well, from San Francisco, were now taking a live look at san jose. But guess what . Those two places have in common . Some pretty clear weather. All right. Meteorologist kari hall seems like an ongoing theme going into the weekend. Yeah, its going to be a nice one and also very warm compared to what we had last weekend. Its going to be a much different picture. And then looking at our start to the day in temperatures in the 50s, but were anywhere from 50 to 59 degrees. Lets talk about this stagnant air that were seeing due to High Pressure thats trapping our very hot and hazy conditions, and a not Much Movement to the air. So thats going to have an impact on air quality as we go throughout the afternoon. Right now, it is good. Were expecting it to be moderate for the coast and the bay, as well as the east bay and in santa clara valley, where High Pressure tends to push that air down into the valleys. And all of the particulate matter that were putting out there just stay. So well be watching our air quality and temperatures going up. Ill talk more about that in a few minutes. Mike, youve been trying to find us places where we can find a deal on gas. Well, you know, kerry, ive seen prices. Maybe you have as well. Ive seen prices along my route to work, dropping a few more cents each day. In some cases, mill valleys low is now 477 at the arco on redwood highway, now in the south bay. Its santa clara with the best of 463 at platinum gas on washington street bottom. Here, despite others trying, we still have the bay area champion Fremont Fremont fliers on osgood. Two weeks solid. Theyve been at 434. Its on osgood road. Thanks for sharing that on back gasbuddy. Com get your price or give your price. Were looking over here to the roadways where traffic flows very smoothly. But i do have this slowdown one slowdown coming into Mountain View chp updates. They hear about a crash involving one vehicle. There may be debris across multiple lanes. I do see that slowing on the sensors southbound passing san antonio. Thats where youll see in and out costco over on the side across the freeway a fence there. Now coming into the area, those headlights light travel as far as the volume goes so that slowing must be at least some distraction. Well track that. All right mike, thanks. Well, a different kind of workout for your wallet, not the gas prices that mike talks about. I head on today in the bay. The gym membership raising its prices for the first time in more than 25 years. And the reason behind the change. Plus, hes cunning. Hes sneaky. Hes back to tell us his precious story. The big return to middle earth with a whole new movie series of lord the rings. Of 60s and it will be nice and sunny. Today were hitting those High Temperatures around 3 to 4 00 this afternoon, so if you can get in those Outdoor Activities before then, youd probably be a lot more comfortable. Well talk about our weekend coming up in a few minutes. Oh, look at this shot. Carry this golden gate bridge. We see that fog kind of hovering right around the deck. We can see enough of those lights to see a smooth flow of traffic out of the north bay. And through that cool fog thats great. Makes it a little tough to see the roadway, but on the roadway your visibility is just fine. Lets see how we see things on the market. Well check in with silvana. Thanks, mike. Good morning. Im Silvana Henao at cnbc. Lets start with wall street. Its set to extend its rally when the market opens this morning. This after stocks rose yesterday with the dow claiming a seventh winning day as new jobless claims data rekindled hope for a Federal Reserve rate cut later this year. The nasdaq and the s p were also up in focus today. The may Consumer Sentiment data out this morning is expected to ease slightly. Openai plans to announce its Artificial Intelligence powered search product on monday, raising the stakes in its competition with search king google now. The announcement could be timed a day before the tuesday start of googles annual i o conference, where the tech giant is expected to unveil a slew of ai related products and Planet Fitness is hiking its prices for new customers for the first time in over 25 years. Classic card membership will be priced at 15 per month for new members, starting this summer. Current members will continue to pay 10 per month for the duration of their membership. Now, the change comes after months of price testing and several several markets countrywide and Planet Fitness also said it will Start Testing higher prices for its top tier membership, known as the black card, this summer. Scott and ginger i cant believe they kept it that low for so long. I was going to say, you know, i dont know if that even 15 is not bad, i know. Right . Its such an incentive for you to work out. Now you have to look at other bad choices. Im still not going to go. Yeah. All right. Savannah, thank you. Well, trending this morning its official Warner Brothers is returning to middle earth with a new batch of lord of the rings films. But these movies will have a specific focus on one character must have the precious. They stole it from us. Sneaky little hobbitses. Well, it is all about gollum. I dont know, thats great ginger. Its horrible. The new movies will star and be directed by andy serkis, the man behind gollum himself. Now the working title is lord of the rings the hunt for gollum. Hes right there. Yeah, hes not having a great hair day today. The project is currently in its early stage of Script Development and is set to be released in 2026. Filmmaker Peter Jackson will also be a producer for that film, but this is just one of the multiple films based on the beloved j. R. R. Tolkien books set to be produced. All right, that is not a face i want to see. No. Yeah good morning. Good morning everyone. I think weve all felt that way. Yeah i know a great one. Yeah. I dont know if i could take a whole movie of that. Oh, not just one. There may be multiple, maybe multiple. And theyre going to be long. Yeah. It might be good to go to a movie this weekend because. Yeah. You know, i dont want to gripe already, but its hot. And we always look for like, cool places to go hang out, you know costcos. Oh yeah. They got a big refrigerator. Yeah the freezer section wherever you can go to try to find some cool air. Were getting back our natural air conditioning from San Francisco. Take a look at this cool view over the golden gate bridge, and you can see the fog just pouring over the Marin Headlands and down into the bay. So i love that shot this morning thats going to provide San Francisco with some relief from the heat, where yesterday we hit 81 degrees. Were going to bring it down today. But it will be the warmest day of the week for the inland valleys that wont get the effects of that coastal fog. And then mothers day weekend is looking dry with some warm temperatures and were going to gradually cool it off toward the end of next week. Check out the 7day forecast up at the bottom of the screen as we get a live look in oakland this morning that starts out at 54 degrees, and well see those temperatures again. Heating up quickly going from mid 50s to mid 70s. By noon. And well see a High Temperature there of 83 degrees 85 in hayward. And were up to 87 in san jose. Concord today 90 degrees and some upper 80s for napa and santa rosa. Tomorrow is about the same as today. Well see a wide range in temperatures along the coast. It will be nice and cool, but then for the valleys, its still going to be hot. So i think when the valleys heat up, people head to the beach. This is what you can expect at some of our popular beaches like stinson beach. It will be in the upper 60s for today, but low 60s by the end of the weekend. Santa cruz right around 70 degrees while monterey. Well see temperatures in the 60s. A look at our 7day forecast for the inland areas are our highs are going to be hot today and tomorrow, but then it does look a little bit better for mothers day into the beginning of next week with some low 80s, while San Francisco is going to catch that relief much sooner. Mothers day, were back to the upper 60s for highs. Mike, whats going on with that crash on 101 . Well, we didnt hear a lot of detail until chp arrived. They say, you know what . Okay, this is over here near san antonio road. The exit there, embarcadero, just a bit to the north out of palo alto. Theyre going to start a traffic break because of this crash and debris. I havent gotten any more details exactly what is going on, but its enough to know that theyre going to have a traffic break to move that car involved in the crash over to the shoulder. Whatever debris there is, and if there is a second car thats still there, theyll move that as well. This will cause you a little bit of a delay. Down 101 280 is fine coming into the area. What you see right here is el camino large surface street. Of course, the royal highway there as you head down toward the south bay. No problems over on the east bay or actually coming out of the altamont pass. Its a typical build there. Contra costa county, a smooth flow. These arrows show you where youll typically see a little build. Oh, theres a little bit of slowing for 37. That may be a little early for a friday. Well track that back to you. Thanks a lot, mike. But protesters have a different focus. Well tell you which areas of town youll want to avoid. If you want to stay out of the hubbub. Yore watching todauy first lady are back in the bay area this morning. Were live with details on the visit and the key campaign funding. Biden is looking to raise here. Plus, legal challenges loom as leaders in oakland vote to change the airports name. The back and forth between two cities as sfo says it is not on board. Also a sudden school shutdown. The reason one east bay school is being forced to close for good. We hear from parents and families in limbo this is today in the bay well, its a lovely friday morning. Good morning to you. Im scott mcgrew and im Ginger Conejero saab. Lets start with a look at the forecast. Not just this friday, but also into the weekend. Meteorologist kari hall is tracking what we can expect. It was hot yesterday. Its going to be hot again today. Were going to see this spring warmth continue for the bay area. But one place thats going to catch some relief along the coastline, and that includes San Francisco, where were seeing this beautiful layer of fog, very thin veil of fog just pouring over the Marin Headlands and down into the bay, crossing the golden gate bridge. So thats going to keep those temperatures from reaching into the low 80s. How about mid 70s for today . So thats some progress towards some more comfortable temperatures. And were going to keep the sunshine as well in san jose were looking at a high of 87 there dublin in fremont 86 and 88 in napa today 88 also in martinez. So well check out our weekend forecast and some events going on in a few minutes. Mike, youve been tracking a crash. And whats the update . Yeah, we have this traffic break that we warned you about. Chp says theyre running it. So thats why weve marked this off from embarcadero out of palo alto, down to san antonio, just on that border with Mountain View. Folks. There will be a traffic break going on there to clear at least one, possibly two vehicles. Some injuries are reported as a result of this crash. Also, some reports of debris across southbound 101. You know, just to be safe, if youre coming from farther north and you can take 280, use that heading down in toward los altos, where you can get through city streets. And its still relatively clear on the city streets. Mind those speeds and those signals everywhere else around the bay shows a pretty smooth friday. We do have this issue over here in the tri valley, but it is eastbound 580 around airway. Someone ran out of gas there just off the roadway. Theyll be there for a while out of the lanes. Back to you. Thanks a lot, mike. Well, frustration and excitement with President Biden. The first lady waking up in the bay area. For the president , this is a visit mostly about money and not so for those trying to send a clear message to the white house about the war in gaza today, in the bays ginger kris sanchez is live for us in San Francisco, kris im usually the one thats out there. It just kind of rolls off my tongue there, i know. Well, chris, protesters as well. And the confusion as well as the president , i mean, theyre both expected to have some busy, busy things ahead today, right . Oh, absolutely. So the security, as you know, is very tight here in San Francisco as the president is sleeping this morning behind us here at the Fairmont Hotel, he and the first lady do have some events later today. None of them, though, is public now. President biden arrived at Moffett Field yesterday afternoon and then headed to San Franciscos marina green by helicopter today. The president is spending an afternoon at the fundraiser planned for portola valley, hosted by billionaire venture capitalist vinod khosla. He will also stop by palo alto and the home of former google and yahoo executive marissa mayer. The president , as i mentioned, has no Public Events scheduled. Biden is here not to win over the voters. Theyre already won, hes here to win over the money. Now, protesters are planning to line alpine road with socalled human billboards of messages about the president s position on israel. The president is warning israel that he will cut off weapons deliveries if israel fully invades rafah. So we are watching that now. After this, the president will head on to seattle for more fundraising. We believe the first lady will head down to southern california, but it should be a busy day here if you want to avoid all of the traffic, avoid this part of San Francisco and avoid, alpine road. Also scott. All right. Chris, thanks. Well, recent scare for parents of children who wrote for a team in the east bay. It happened during a regatta on a stretch of the sacramento river. And we should tell you, no one was hurt in this. But listen to this. That was nearby gunfire. You can hear it there. And it rattled the team and the parents watching on shore. As you can imagine, there were even splashes from the bullets in the nearby water. The team is called the oakland strokes, and its a group made up of 15 and 16 year olds. This happened at the end of last month. One parent who shared the video with us called it a harsh dose of reality to be in that situation and see my child shot at and it its horrible. Its absolutely horrible. And what i experienced pales in comparison to what countless families have experienced. Well, the team initially kept rowing because they thought it was just a joke. Or perhaps the sound of a bb gun. Only later did they realize it was actual gunfire. They ended up calling police who searched the area and found nothing. Now, for parents and team members, it may be a bit of a wake up call, but for me its pretty clear that our kids are less safe having more guns. And as a parent, our number one job is to keep our kids safe. So so im trying to keep my kids safe. Im trying to encourage others to really think about this and think, how can we keep all our kids safe . This is such a terrifying incident there. The incident is still under investigation. The source of the gunfire is still a mystery. 536 on your friday morning, a controversial name change, the Oakland International airport will be the San Francisco bay Oakland International airport. Port of oakland officials unanimously approved that name change yesterday. It comes as San Francisco files a lawsuit claiming that new name infringes on the sfo brand and could cause widespread confusion for travelers. Port Officials Say the name change will create more awareness to the airports proximity to attractions around the San Francisco bay, mostly San Francisco. The ports chief legal officer says they are filing countersuit against San Francisco, so there is nine counties that sit on the San Francisco bay in several cities, and theres several businesses that use San Francisco bay and a lot of their products right now. Regarding the vote by the port San Francisco City Attorney david chu says its disappointing. Oakland chose to ignore our multiple offers to collaborate on an alternative name and avoid litigation. We have no choice but to move forward with the next steps in our trademark lawsuit. Well, San Francisco will remember an icon this mothers day. Mourners will gather at 1 p. M. For a celebration of life honoring the reverend cecil williams. The Service Takes place at the same church. He turned into a shining light in the tenderloin that is glide memorial. Williams died two weeks ago at the age of 94. He was a champion of civil rights, lgbtq rights and helping the poor. The celebration will also include a piano and a microphone that are set up outside on ellis street, so guests can come up and share memories of the reverend. The service will also be streamed on facebook and youtube. For those who cant be there in person, well, only on nbc bay area. A surprise announcement leaving parents and teachers and students stunned and shocked in newark, leaders at new Horizons Charter School say today is the last day of school forever. The prek, elementary and middle school all shutting down. An email to parents cites financial problems, low enrollment and staff shortages. The School Operators also filing for bankruptcy. About 100 children attend that school. Parents and teachers are scrambling. School was supposed to go until may 31st, so this came as quite a shock to everybody who is now scrambling for daycare and other schools and, and school gets out in three weeks seeing it in this way so abruptly, so fast, really breaks my heart. Yeah. Teachers say they havent been paid since early april. The school will go out with a Graduation Ceremony for eighth graders this afternoon. Well, this weekend you can celebrate asian american, native hawaiian, and Pacific Islander heritage month with a polynesian party. Sounds like fun. The temecula association has deep roots in hayward, as many native hawaiians left the islands to make a home. Here in the 70s. Now they are hosting the hawaiian may day festival this saturday with music and dance, arts and crafts. And of course, you cant forget the food, the native food and treats. The organizers say that while all aanhpi people are special, you can recognize native hawaiians by their big hearts. Whether or not you were hawaiian or whatever nationality you are. You know, hawaiian people are really gracious to everybody, and they love one another, and theyll give you the shirt off their back. That is that aloha spirit. The hawaiian may day festival is tomorrow from noon to six in the evening at b street and main in downtown hayward. And hopefully anyone whos actually going to head out there will have the weather cooperating with them. Meteorologist karl kari hall, is that true . Yeah, its going to be really nice tomorrow and we wont have the hawaiian humidity to go along with it. Were going to continue on with sunshine and were going to drop those temperatures a few degrees. So tomorrow in downtown hayward, the high will be at about 78. Really nice there as well as some great weather for the mill valley music festival. You can find those tickets online. I think saturday will be a great day, but also sunday is looking really nice too. But maybe slightly cooler after seeing those highs in the low 70s for tomorrow afternoon and you may be kicking off your weekend tonight at the giants game, its going to start out right at about 65 degrees at first pitch, and it will be windy. Some of those gusts at about 23mph may get even higher at times. But then as we go into tonight, temperatures drop down to the upper 50s and low 60s. Now, looking at what to expect for this weekend. Also in san rafael , the classic car parade will be happening downtown, starting at noon. It will be 71 degrees and a few clouds, but were headed for the upper 70s there as well as we also are going to have some nice weather for those activities. And then for this evening in los altos, you may want to check out the bubbly stroll. This looks like a nice event starting at 6 00 and it will be in the upper 70s, but bring the jacket as soon as the sun sets. Those temperatures will drop quickly into the mid 60s, and if your weekend plans take you to the sierra, thats a live look at palisades tahoe. If that alone doesnt have you packing up the car, i dont know what will. Itll be beautiful there this weekend. Still some snow on the ground, and its going to be warming up into the upper 60s by the end of the weekend. Mike, do you have an update on that Traffic Alert in palo alto . You know, i do have some more information. And now were looking at palo alto southbound 101 right around university city. Now just south of here, out of our camera range, embarcadero. And thats where chp did talk about starting that traffic break, which they have not yet cleared from the report. Southbound 101 between embarcadero and san antonio road. Watch for that to be closed for access, at least temporarily. The word i got was that its not one crash, its two separate crashes, five vehicles total involved. So those all have to be at least clear to the shoulder. There are some injuries, but theyre minor. But again a lot of activity. Use south 280. If youre coming down toward palo alto from san mateo, for example. Thats definitely clear through that area. And you can still get through those city streets to get your way about the rest of your route. South bay, just showing a little slowing for northbound one on one in san jose. And thats right on schedule. Everythings typical for a friday. This fender bender i told you, is actually over now, and its eastbound. Not a problem for your westbound commute coming into the area. And the bay bridge is a typical pattern there. I want to warn you about the closure for eastbound to 37. This is coming up this weekend, so ive taken the sensors off. It is from sears point to mare island, the opposite direction as it was a couple weeks ago. That will be closed all weekend starting tonight at about nine 10 00. And so youre going to have to use this longer route up 121 over 12 and back down 29. That adds a lot of mileage. That will be this weekend and the forecast is for next weekend as well as far as when theyll be able to do that road work. Theyre trying to save you time on the overall project as well. The bay bridge, this is a golden gate bridge. Wow, i skipped my bart note, but we do have a couple closures for bart as well. Ill bring that to you. Thanks, mike. Well, speeding up refunds for passengers with canceled flights still ahead on today in the bay. The new bill headed to the house and the changes it will bring to air travel. Plus, moving the bay area forward, the new help one organization is offering for mothers trying to make it in the and continues today were headed for the upper 80s. Get ready for that. Well talk about the weekend coming up. Yeah. Weekend. So this is friday. Were looking at the bay bridge toll plaza. Even with the metering lights on, its taking a little while for this backup to even show on our camera. I do want to show you whats going on. This weekend, saturday and sunday. Bart and vta do have interruptions to their service. Bart has no trains between union city and warm springs south fremont. Youll use the bus bridge that they have in place. It is 546. The latest reports out of the middle east say cease fire talks are faltering and israel is moving ahead with its incursion into rafah in gazas southern end. The white house once again warning israel not to, quote, smash into rafah. The Biden Administration has delayed the delivery of heavy bombs that were part of the military aid to israel to prevent that country from using them against targets in the city of 1 million people. We spoke a short time ago with a former general in the Israeli Defense forces, who said he warned his government over that hamas would attack and now warns the Israeli Attack towards rafah must go forward with or without american help. Heres retired Brigadier General amir avivi. It all depends on rafah and when that especially sends a dont want to go, they dont want israel to do a ground incursion in rafah that basically calling israel to lose the war. Israel cannot lose the war. Hamas will be able to rebuild itself from scratch in a few months. They will gain a full power again. And everything, everything we lost all our losses, our soldiers and everything will be for nothing. Now the pentagon tells us this morning an American Ship called the sagamore is ready to unload desperately needed supplies into gaza. But the floating dock that the us wants to build isnt ready yet. Israel in the past has prevented gazans from building their own harbors and closed most land crossings, meaning its very difficult to get food and other supplies into gaza. New this morning, an aviation bill focused on protecting consumers is on its way to the house. The Senate Passed the 105 billion measure. The bill boosts air Traffic Controller staffing increases funding to avert close calls on runways, and it dramatically speeds up refunds for canceled flights. The bill also prohibits airlines from charging extra fees for family members to sit together, and it also requires 25 hour cockpit recording devices versus the two hours that are now required. Now this morning, were moving you forward ahead of the mothers day weekend. Today in the bays laura garcia has more on this now, if you want to consider it is that official reminder, laura, for mothers day this morning, youre shining light on two groups that are working to help bay area moms. Thats right. Big time, because we know what new mothers have to deal with, what everyone with a new baby has to deal with diapers, and a lot of them diapers can cost anywhere between 80 and 100 a month, which can add up to thousands of dollars until a child completes their potty training. But there is an organization Whose Mission is to help mothers out. That is literally the name of the group. Help a mother out. It started with two moms who organized a mothers day donation drive to collect diapers and wipes for local agencies. In just a month, they collected more than 15,000 diapers through their networks. Mom blogs, as well as their play and learning spaces, surprised by the support, the group called help a mother out was born and it still continues to impact the community ahead of this years mothers day, two east bay moms also wanted to give back to their other fellow mothers, so is the founder of an up and coming jewelry brand, gold stores and devarana is a local artist, painter and dancer. Together, she and dev designed jewelry that pays special tribute to mothers everywhere. I think its important, especially women in mothers, supporting other mothers and women of color. Like its almost like a subset of, like a bigger population. And you need to push each other up. Its because of her, her her road towards motherhood. And she wanted to share that. And then she wanted to find an organization that supported women supported moms. Thats right. Weve got to really support each other, right. Its so important. Their launch also collected diapers for help of mothers out. If you in fact want to hold an event and partner up with help a mother out. I just love that name. Yeah, i wanted to shout out by the rooftops when my kids were little, but you can help them out by donating or organizing a fundraiser for yourself. Ill post more on social media for this morning. Its like while youre changing the diaper, youre like, help a mother out. Come on. I just needed more arms with triplets. I dont know how you did it. Youre super woman. I dont know how i did it either, but it was. Im glad to be out of the diaper phase. Yeah got a little bit more work to do, but happy advanced mothers day to you, laura. Yes, you as well. Yes well, its a pretty its not a pretty end actually, to this road trip for the giants who got blown out yesterday in denver. The rockies won the game 9 to 1 to avoid a sweep. The giants, meanwhile, now have lost seven of their last ten, and they could probably use some home cooking right about now. So here you go. Well, tonight they start a three game series at oracle against the cincinnati reds. You can watch the game live right here on nbc bay area. Or if you wanted to actually get last minute tickets to the game, it might not be that bad of an idea because the weather will be cooperating. Its going to be gorgeous. Yeah its going to be a nice evening. And also were continuing with sunshine and warm temperatures to the warm air continues for much of the bay area as were Getting Started and take a look at four of our microclimates as youre heading out. And were taking a look at our current temperatures, those live cameras and the wind speeds. And in san jose it is 59 degrees 54 in oakland, san rafael a chilly start in the upper 40s. While San Francisco is seeing the return of the fog. And its in the mid 50s. Well, we are also going to have issues with air quality, which we sometimes see with High Pressure, clear skies and hot temperatures so High Pressure has a clockwise wind flow, but it also causes the air to sink. As that air sinks, it pushes down all those pollutants into the valleys. And were going to see that again today. So there will be a hazy look to the sky and moderate air quality from the coast to the bay, as well as the east bay and santa clara valleys, will see the highest measure of particulate matter. Thats just being trapped here where were trying to breathe. So were going to see the hot and also hazy conditions for today as our temperatures head for the upper 80s for east san jose, gilroy will see a high of 87 degrees with a light wind. And as youre checking out that 7day forecast at the bottom of the screen, youll see that its going to eventually come down a few degrees. But were still at the peak of it today, with concord and antioch up to 94 today. 87 in pleasanton and in oakland today, 83 degrees. Were getting a bit of a break for the coastline, but still really nice. Half moon bay, 71 degrees. While redwood city will see a high of 83 and upper 70s downtown and in the mission district, 72, in the Marina District and mill valley. Today up to 78 degrees, while well see upper 80s for santa rosa and ukiah today a high of 90. So when these temperatures in the valleys heat up, people want to head to the coast. You want the coast, you want some cooler weather, right . So were going to see that from stinson beach, santa cruz and monterey. Were all looking at temperatures in the upper 60s and low 70s. And our 7day forecast shows nice conditions for mothers day. It will still be sunny and warm for the afternoon going into next week. Were looking at some low 80s while San Francisco has already made it past the peak of the heat and will head for the upper 60s for sunday. Mike, youre still tracking that traffic break. Im looking for the impact here. Palo alto southbound toward the traffic break. Its not building up, but still chp has not cleared the roadway.
