developing news in minneapolis, a $27 million civil settlement in the death of george floyd gabe gutierrez is there. >> reporter: the city of minneapolis would pay them the largest settlement $27 million. >> even though my brother is not here, he's here with me in my heart. if i could get him back, i would give all of this back. >> reporter: it is the biggest pretrial civil settlement following the police encounter in the u.s. topping the $12 million pay out the city of louisville awarded to breonna taylor's family last year >> we know no amount of money can address the intense drama and pain by his death. >> reporter: chauvin charged with second degree murder of man slaughter in floyd's death. he's pleaded not guilty and his defense team says floyd's drug use contributed to his death. another charge of third degree murder added floyd's family celebrated as the city council voted unanimously to approve the settlement and includes half a million dollars where he died. >> they can't control what's going to happen in the criminal courts what they can do its exhibit responsible leadership in the face of this horrific tragedy that was a watershed moment for america. >> reporter: the attorneys for the four officers involved in this case did not respond about that settlement. a new dose of optimism of the pandemic of a gnawing concern of whether it will pay a price for the rapid pace of reopening. 66 million americans getting at least one vaccine dose and hospitalizations dropping, president biden wants all adults to be eligible for the vaccine by may here is may, there should be enough doses to inoculate everyone who signs up. >> by july the 4th, there is a good chance your family and friends able to get together and have a cook out and celebrate independence day >> reporter: by may 31st, states will receive 200 million doses of moderna and pfizer and 100 million doses of johnson & johnson. the number of super sites and pharmacies will also double soon dentists and optometrists and veterinarians will be eligible to administer vaccines >> if it is a two dose vaccine, you have to get those two doses and wait until two weeks and until more is protected, it is not going to be as safe as it will be. >> reporter: with covid comes caveat the timeline could shift if restrictions needed to control budding variants and new infections >>
