Boy elementary since 5 00 this morning. We have had a chance to see some of the teachers come in excited to teach as well as the students and their parents. For some of those younger children particularly kindergarten this is the first time they have been in their building and hard to believe that as we are a day away from december and coming while marin county is the only one in red surrounded by purple. Here is a look. We broke the numbers down for you. 51 counties in the state of california are currently in purple category. Just six, including marin, are in red. One lone county Sierra County is in orange. Important to note the purple counties represent nearly 40 Million People or 99. 1 of the states population. Despite those numbers, Mill Valley School district is reopening all of their Elementary Schools and their middle schools for students to return. Parents are required to complete Daily Health Screenings of their children before they go to school and they are asked to drop their kids off at designated entries and not leave their cars. We spoke to some children this morning and it presents challenges of its own they want their children to be safe and have to hope the decision they are making is the best one. This is something you can imagine so many parents are going through. Take a listen to one dad. I dont know if there is a right or wrong way. I mean, obviously its a little tough if we have meetings so one of us has to pick up the kids and make sure we can pick them up. Hopefully, this is a good start. We dont know. Statewide 6. 1 of the people getting tested for the virus are testing positive. L. A. Countys positive iterate is much higher than the state average. 6. 8 . Here in the bay area the positive iterate stands at 3 in santa clara and alameda counties. Marin county the only bay area county in the red tier and its smaller population wise and the positive iterate there stands at 1. 5 . Lets go back to the purple tier. You can see here many of the counties here in the bay area in purple tier. Lets look at the map. Nine bay area counties in purple. The most restrictive tier is Santa Clara County here. Now those restrictions are really taking a toll on a lot of people traveling to Santa Clara County to quarantine for two weeks upon arrival. As we heard and saw people arriving here we did hear some phones chiming. You might have heard this too, marcus. Santa clara county Public Health office just sent out an alert to your phone about those increasing covid restrictions and includes a requirement to quarantine upon arrival or return here in Santa Clara County. It did seem like people knew about this quarantine requirement as they arrived at san jose from thanksgiving travel this morning. For now the quarantine order is a request with information going up at the airport and into travelers hands. No enforcement just yet in hawaii and new york where travelers have to show documentation and proof of quarantine or testing. Dr. Sarah cody said on cnn this morning that county policies are meant to Work Together to protect hospital capacity. Limiting lodging to just those who are traveling for essential purposes compliments the quarantine for those folks returning. So we cant enforce every action. We really depend on the public to take actions to protect everyone. Reporter the order asks travelers into Santa Clara County to quarantine 14 days upon return or arrival after travel beyond 150 miles so that is roughly if you go south of san jose st. Luis obispo and beyond. The order in effect through december 21st and except health care and government workers and we talked to travelers planning to work from home the next two weeks. I have to just hunker down and go with it, you know . You got to do what you got to do. We live some San Mateo County but planning to try to quarantine together to be safe about it. Reporter no quarantine requirement at sfo or Oakland International at this point but we learned this morning all bay area Public Health officers signed a letter of support for the quarantine order in Santa Clara County so perhaps that might be in the works. Santa clara county might be the strictest but San Francisco, san mateo counties in the purple tier which means no more Outdoor Dining and restricted capacity inside stores. Marin also kind of teetering on that edge of red and purple which is the most restrictive. Stay tuned for this.
