Its the last weekend before the election, but its not too late to cast your ballot. Election officials and bay area sports teams are trying to make it as easy as possible to make sure your vote gets counted. Several new and familiar Voting Centers open today. Youre looking at two of them right there, levi stadium home of the niners, chase center, home of the warriors. And Christy Smith has more. The president ial election on her mind and she took her brother. He was not going to vote. He was going to stay at home. I was like, lets go. Lets do it together. This is the first day that were open for inperson voting at our accessible voting locations. Well will open here and at our 100 sites on saturday, sunday, monday and election day. Reporter in alameda county, theyre seeing a surge in early voters, just days ahead of the election, this location makes sense. It is an icon for this area. So we know that people will know that this is a spot that they can get to, to drop off their ballots, to vote in person safely, and like i said also vote in their cars and for curb side voting. Reporter at the courthouse on fallon street, outdoor voting was set up and people dropped off ballots. If i can just do it right now instead of waiting until tuesday morning. Reporter across the bay, warriors coach steve kerr came out and dropped off his ballot outside the chase center, which is a ballot dropoff location. Were in there grinding every day trying to be a great team. Its just were doing that and then were trying to help people vote and see if we can make a difference. Reporter Christy Smith, nbc bay area news. The polls opened for inperson voting in santa clara, including levi stadium. Its one of 100 inperson Voting Centers set up. Officials were on site to talk about safety and security around the voting process. And remind those that havent registered there is still time. If you are not registered to vote and you want to vote, you can do that at the same time. You can come in, register, and vote. I mean, it couldnt be easier. Officials have another message for county voters. Do not wait until the last minute to vote. Americans are turning out in record numbers to cast their ballots this election. Nationwide, more than 81 million ballots have been cast, up more than 100 from 2016. You see the breakdown. 61 mailin ballots. 39 cast in person. Take a look at california now. More than 9. 3 Million People have voted in this state, up 128 over the last president ial election. Remember, this year, california mailed ballots to every registered voter. That would explain why more people have voted by mail than in person. 79 mailin, and inperson, 21 . Zeroing in on the bay area, this maps shows the percentage of vote by mail ballots that have come in per county. Take a look at the counties above 50 . More than half of the voters have already voted. San mateo, sonoma, contra costa county, over 50 . But check out the crown jewel of the bay area. Marin county, 62 of ballots already returned. There is now an interactive feature on the app. You open up the app, you zoom in on a location, and then a check mark will appear at one of the 99 polling locations in santa clara county. You touch on the check mark and some of the directions will pop up on how to find the polling place using vta. Postal Service Investigators say they have found four dozen ballots in piles of undelivered mail in south florida. Investigators say six ballots had already been completed. Election Officials Say 18 of the affected voters have already cast ballots in person, or used a replacement mailin ballot. Theyre contacting the remaining voters to get their ballots in by tuesday. They set their own Public Health measures with Northern Island already in lockdown and scotland under tough restrictions. A new study found the rallies led to more than 30,000 confirmed covid19 cases. That study was published by Stanford University this week. It hasnt been Peer Reviewed yet, though. Researchers looked at 18 trump rallies between june 20th and september 22. They analyzed covid19 data in the weeks following each event and found the rallies also led to more than 700 deaths. To be clear, the study only looked at trump ral i whys, not biden rallies. Uc students and staff have one more thing before the weekend ends, get a flu shot. All students and Staff Members must get a shot before monday unless they have a medical exemption. Uc already requires vaccinations against measles, tetanus and the chickenpox. But says they added the flu shot requirement to reduce the burden on Health Leaders who are already fighting covid19. A cyber attack against a sonoma hospital could be linked to russian hackers. It happened on october 11 at the Sonoma Valley hospital. The ransom ware attack targeted the computer system. A New York Times report says a coordinated russian operation is targeting up to 400 hospitals across the country during the pandemic. And its likely Sonoma Valley was one of them. Hospital Officials Say they stopped the attack immediately but some patient information might have been compromised. It says pg e should pay up, because it risked lives and Public Safety during those shutoffs. The director of californias Unemployment Benefits is retiring. Sharon hilliard has been working there for 37 years.
