Kari, you have had sky ranger to look out for and track downed power lines. It looks like its over off the shoulder there right around high street, coming up in through the Oakland Hills where highway 13 got a wind advisory from chp. Well watch for the traffic moving smoothly. At least part of a tree down inside this freeway. Outside the bay bridge toll plaza in the east bay and the oakland area metering lights turned on earlier than necessary because of the volume. I think theyre keeping folks on the shoreline to keep volume on the span lighter as we look at the map. That would make things easier to handle if there are problems. High wind advisory reported for many of the spans there and this traffic incident is the only problem because of the crash over into sunol and west 84, around the ge plant and that may be clearing lanes right now. Mike, how is it looking for the morning commute . Well, kari, on the chp report it looks like nothing has changed. Up above our highest elevations and wind gusts on some of the measurements. Mt. St. Helena 89mileperhour wind gusts. Middletown, 71. Calaveras reaching 63. With mt. Diablo up to 56. So its still been windy but not that high. Were looking at gradually calming winds as we go into today. At 11 00, some of our models still showing winds at about 35 miles an hour. As we go into tonight still a northerly wind and why the fire danger continues because the humidity has been so low going along with breezy winds. We are going to see still some breezy conditions especially for the north bay into the aftern n afternoon. High pressure off the coast, a very strong storm system moving off to the east. These two weather systems together are creating a northerly wind across the bay area and that increases our fire danger as the winds blow off the shore. And so as that wind moves over parts of the sierra into the Central Valley and down some of our mountains, that down sloping wind dries out the air significantly, and so with the high winds were still looking at high fire danger through tomorrow morning, and well be watching out for the potential of another wind event by the end of the week, but our sevenday forecast shows that we will see some mid to upper 70s over the next several days. Now this is just slightly above normal but overall some fairly comfortable weather. Going into the weekend some mid70s and low 80s. San francisco will see some low 70s over the next couple of days due to the winds going off the coast. But then coming back to some upper 60s by thursday and friday. Well have a lot to watch out. Mike, what are you watching for the morning commute . Kari, im still watching the trivalley cutting through sunol. We do have reports still from chp this is the concern. Not exactly where they are in the process. We do have the slower drive. Youll have to use 580 or stanley to get around. 580 to the dublin interchange is showing more slowing than we expected given the volume of traffic. I think a lot of folks have diverted. The crash still in the ditch right by the ge plant. No major injuries, though. No major slowing. Weve seen a lot of other scattered reports through the morning. Green sensors here. A look at the bay bridge. Weve seen a lot of scattered reports for wires sparking. The bay bridge metering lights are on light here. Thats a smooth drive as folks head over to the span itself. Back to you. Next on today in the bay, nbc bay area responds. Reporter he pays his hospital bill and has written proof from the bank, but guess who keeps calling him. Debt collectors. Yeah, this is going to last throughout much of the morning and possibly into the afternoon for some of us. We still have the high fire danger that will continue but the wind advisory will expire at 11 00 this morning. We will stay breezy especially in the north bay for the rest of today. Then as we go through the forecast we are going to see those temperatures around the bay area reaching mostly into the 70s, even in San Francisco were up to 73 degrees for this afternoon. Well talk more about whats ahead and how much of those high wind we measure already. Mike, how is it looking for the morning commutes . The good news is we have one incident, one traffic incident to note in the trivalley, highway 84, tied up for about 45 minutes now. A crash over on the shoulder actually in the ditch right by the ge plant slows you down heading to 680 out of town, pleasanton and livermore. The dublin interchange, a little more traffic, a Ripple Effect from that. Everything else running smoothly. The arrows pointing the wind advisory across the dumbarton, even the bay bridge as well. Unusual wind advisories for the benicia and the antioch span. Back to you. Very concerning. We continue our Team Coverage this morning and the biggest wind event to hit the bay area so far this year and this morning about 225,000 pg e customers are without power across northern california. In fact this is a live look at the pg e outage map. The north bay and east bay heavily affected as well as parts of the south bay. And we are tracking problems out there this morning. Live to Alameda County and dublin which is where today in the bays bob redell is live this morning to show us some of that damage. Looks like you have a tree there behind you, bob. Reporter yes, kris, weve seen a number of trees that have come down in the east bay. This one in the parking lot outside the Santa Clarita jail in dublin. Fortunately no one was hurt. It shows you how gusty the winds have been. These are the heaviest winds weve seen all year. Thats why we are under this red flag warning and its why firefighters are taking it so seriously because this is a threat to potential starting potential wildfires. Case in point, earlier this morning at 12 45, a brush fire burned three to four acheers re castro valley. Alameda county fire responded with 11 units. Thats how aggressive they were in putting out this fire and keeping it from turning into something much bigger and more dangerous. Take another live look at the power outage map from the pg e website. The utility performed Public Safety shutoffs throughout especially in the north bay and the east bay. Over 16,000 customers are without power here in Alameda County. Over 15,000 in Contra Costa County before the power went out last night in lafayette, residents stocked up on supplies. The local Ace Hardware Store tells us theyve sold out of lanterns, power heaters. A lucky few have been able to pick those up in neighboring counties. We have an emergency generator. I spent the whole morning getting it to run, but its running now. I am out of flashlights, those types of things. Just huge numbers moving out the door. I am staying home. Youre going to ride out the red flag warning . I am. Reporter pg e indicates on their website some customers could see their power come back on by 10 00 tonight. Just depends on where you live and when this wind event dies down. Once the wind stops, they cant just turn the power back on. They have to send workers out in the field, check those power lines, check the equipment, make sure nothing was damaged before it can be reenergized. Bob redell, today in the bay. Thank you, bob. Bob was just telling us those overnight winds howling in some cases doing more than just keeping people awake. A tree came down, you see it there. This is not too far from concord high school. The tree fell between the two homes, so thats the good news. No one was hurt. And you know, kris, a number of parks in the east bay will be closed today due to all the strong winds. Several parks in the east Bay Regional Park District were closed as the dangerous weather moved in. The goal is to keep people out of places like the Berkeley Hills to try to reduce the fire danger and lower other risk. Cal fire staffing as well, prepositioning crews to help local agencies in some of those threatened areas. The oakland zoo has added to the list of place that is may shut down due to the power shutoffs. The zoo says it was told by pg e it will likely have to close today and tomorrow. I wanted to show you how high the winds have been gusting for some of our lower lying areas where we saw it reaching 57 Miles Per Hour in oakland last night and still in san jose were looking at for thorly winds coming in at about 26 which is what were seeing elsewhere. And a fairly mild day with a high of 76 degrees in san jose. Well see a few spots reaching 80 in the north bay. Well talk more about that coming up. Mike, how is it looking for the commute . I dont want to talk anymore about this but an update, a good one. The crash is cleared in the trivalley, kari. Were looking at westbound 84 coming into sunol out of pleasanton. Traffic cleared. The incident cleared on the map and the red sensors, those will clear as well. A little more slowly. Theres also more traffic at the dublin interchange as folks try to get around that. I have circled the crash at alvarado. We do have the crash over on the shoulder. It was enough to click off a little bit of slowing as the traffic built out of hayward and castro valley. The metering lights are still on but they never filled in all the lanes. The slowest right now is off the 880 overcrossing. Back to you.
