But we are definitely committed to bringing you the news and whats happening around the world in terms of Climate Change and as we get a look at our Arctic Sea Ice, we know that it has been melting at an alarming rate. So, this graph shows you the million square miles in the amount of the Arctic Sea Ice that continues to decrease and here we are at 2020 breaking another record for the Second Lowest amount of Arctic Sea Ice and, of course, that contributes to sea level rise. Its a problem that just kind of feeds in itself because instead of reflecting the sunlight, that water is going to absorb more of it and just continues to melt. So, really big problem there. As we continue to go into a world that our temperatures are warming up and its creating some very massive impacts on our weather as well as the climate. So thats something well continue to monitor as we bring you back home. Were seeing numerous storms moving into the pacific northwest. Were getting ready for another heat wave to move into the bay area. Once that storm system moves in, moves out were going to see High Pressure moving in and with this clockwise wind flow around High Pressure, well have an off shore wind and thats going to contribute to a high fire danger for the weekend as we get that descending air coming in. A very dry, warm air as well and the fire danger that increases from saturday into sunday, as well as monday. Our highest risk of seeing some wildfire conditions will be in our north bay mountains. For the rest of the bay area and east bay, a moderate risk of some fires. Any new fires that develop will spread rapidly in these conditions and then thats the reason why we have this fire weather watch that will be in effect from saturday through monday. Were willing to get high winds and very low humidity and possibly some of those gusts in the upper elevations reaching 50 Miles Per Hour so we may also have the concern of a psps, a Public Service power shutoff continuing through early next week and we can see tripledigit temperatures in our warmest spots going into the weekend. Well start out with some clouds yesterday at this time it was ay and those ll also have clouds helping keep our temperatures down. As we go into the morning in dublin, low 60s and then quickly warming up well see low 80s by early in the afternoon. Matching temperatures we had yesterday with some 60s near the coast and some mid 80s for the inland areas and some 70s in between. Well talk more about this and whats ahead in the forecast as our temperatures heat up. Mike, how is it looking for the commute . Its looking standard, i guess. The bay bridge toll plaza, the lanes are filled in but right now has been the tradition for the last few months were seeing things lightening up. Out towards the outside. As we look at the map, no problem on the approach feeding in out of Contra Costa County and the north bay looks great despite fog at the golden gate bridge. As we look towards the trivalley still slowing out of the Altamont Pass and some slowing near the dublin interchange that just developed and well check on that coming up. Thanks, mike. The streets of louisville quiet this morning after hours filled with emotion following the decision not to charge officers directly in the shooting death of Breonna Taylor. That decision doesnt mean the full investigation is over. The fbi still has yet to weigh in but protesters across louisville making their voices heard. Some in tears yesterday following that decision. And two officers were shot 30 minutes before a city wide curfew went into effect. The citys interim police chief not concerned about officers on the ground. Im very concerned about the safety of our officers. Obviously, we had two officers shot tonight and that is very serious. A very dangerous condition. I think that the safety of our officers and the community we serve is of utmost importance. Now, both of those officers shot are expected to survive. The National Guard now on standby in the event of more violence. Taylor was killed in her home in march. This is after officers with a noknock warrant broke down her door. The only charge filed yesterday involves a now fired police sergeant. Now taking you to downtown san jose where theres graffiti up and down even on trees as demonstrators tried to make their voices heard following that decision. A small group of protesters planned to remain outside as a sign of solidarity for Breonna Taylors family and we checked this morning and they actually all cleared out. They say the issue of racial injustice, however, is not going away. Severalmerritt amphitheater nd blocking traffic calling for taylor to receive justice. Another demonstration is planned in oakland later today. In San Francisco, mostly peaceful scene as demonstrators rallied outside the Mission District Police Headquarters calling for change. As black people we just keep seeing people that look just like us and people who are related to people we are related to being killed with zero accountability and zero recourse in the system. The group eventually marching to the block where sfpd killed Luis Gongora Pat holding a moment of silence and calling for police accountability. New video into our newsroom of the chaotic night with protesters in portland, oregon. Hundreds of them gathering into the streets demanding justice for Breonna Taylor. You can see some of them throwing at police and flash banks. In denver a terrifying moment when a car plowed through a group of protesters and the crowd surrounded the car and then the driver sped off hitting one person. Police say no one was seriously injured and that driver was arrested. Were continuing to monitor all the developments following the grand jurys decision. This nationwide call for justice for breonna tlor is our top story on with the struggles, Governor Newsom finalizing a bold plan. It will change not only california roadways, but the kind of cars you can buy now. Today in the bay Cierra Johnson is live right now. You know, this comes ahead of an important summit as Climate Change week 2020. It sure does. That pledge that Governor Newsom signed really would fast track the auto industrys design process. The pledge would ban the sale of new gaspowered cars in the state in 15 years, which would be by 2035. Now, the key word to that pledge is new. The plan wouldnt stop folks from owning gaspowered cars altogether or from dealers selling used gas powered cars but it would require every new car to be zero emission in the entire state in the state with nearly 40 million people. That would break down to one out of roughly every ten cars sold. While the governor touts the plan, it would reduce greenhouse emissions by nearly 35 and a spokesperson with the petroleum said it would increase the price of cars and cost jobs. Take a listen to what one driver in millbrae thinks of this move. It would be inefficient because you have to find some place to charge it up. Millbrae has a lot of charging stations, but what happens when youre low on Battery Power . What happens, youre stuck in traffic. All you can see the meter just going slowly down, you know. Youre going to be stuck on the side of the road waiting for someone to charge you up. Youre going to have a problem. Now, california is the first state to pursue this type of mandate, but as many as 15 countries have made similar vows. They include france, germany and norway. Sources tell nbc schools including cal and stanford leaning towards kicking off the last weekend of october. This is opposed to what is now a january start date. Lets talk about what is going on right now as we are going around the world and talking about Climate Change especially as we go into the next week and we had a massive melting of our Arctic Sea Ice. We know thats been happening over the past several years, but right now were at the Second Lowest amount weve ever had. The lowest amount was in 2012 and this shows the million square miles of Arctic Sea Ice and how were down to just below two million square miles. So, its really melted significantly and this not only has an impact on the arctic, but the weather around the world. And so were seeing these changes happening due to our Global Warming and those temperatures going up and its just a problem that continues to feed on itself because once that ice melts, it turns into water and that water absorbs more of that heat from the sun instead of reflecting it like the white sea ice that we normally see. Unfortunately, a big problem that were seeing there and were having impacts here in the bay area with sea level rise. As we look at our current weather happening right now, weve seen a couple storm systems moving across the pacific northwest. Its been so good to see that rain there and its also provided us with some nice, cool weather as well as some better air quality. But as we go into the weekend, High Pressure will build just off the coast and with the clockwise wind flow around that High Pressure, its going to give us instead of some cool ocean air, its going to bring in some hot and dry conditions from the land. And that will be blowing off shore over the next couple of days. We will have a high fire danger going into the weekend as we are going to see those winds picking up to about 40 to 50 Miles Per Hour. The highest risk of those fires will start on saturday for parts of the north bay and well have a moderate risk for the east bay hills. Look at how hot our temperatures get. Were going from the 80s today and tomorrow to the 90s on saturday and then the triple digits for the end of the weekend. Were going to see these major changes and, of course, well have more updates on that. Mike, how is it looking right now for the morning commute . Well, weve had these changes since quarantine earlier and shorter lived build. We show you san jose where there was more slowing that kicked in but the northbound side now coming towards us still lightening up even as we speak. As we look at the map, not a lot of slowing on the sensors from 680 to oakland road and push over towards Contra Costa County and smooth flow of traffic getting through the entire area and traffic out there and no delays and little build for the Castro Valley area which is starting to ease up even now. At one point protesters tried to set fire to this metal statue. Fallon was san joses tenth mayor in the 1850s and a push to remove the statue because activists say fallon oppressed the Mexican Community and this was the scene outside city hall a group of 100 demonstrators there chanting support for Breonna Taylors family and some painted justs for breonno on a front of city hall.
