from baltimore. if you would, we re looking at pictures but take your time and describe the situation at the moment there in baltimore. reporter: good evening, tony. the worst of the rioting taking place at the moment is happening just 1.5 miles away from downtown baltimore. and the story of the day, if you re just getting from work is is that around about 2:00 this afternoon, the university of baltimore, maryland let its staff and students know they were concerned there may be violence in the area and they should go home. that was the first indication that we have that something may be up. later on at least two high schools emptied out, and the students went to the nearby shopping shopping mall that s a big one. there they were met by police in riot gear and the situation deteriorated rapidly. and i think what happened was these students that went out to protest all the events surrounding freddie gray s death. throughout the last two weeks the police have been in ordinary
point. we canceled leave for all our police officers so they re deployed on the stroets as we speak. each shift is fully staffed. we called in outside resources from all over the state of maryland to give us an assist here. we re not going to tolerate this. our priorities right now is to restore order in the city. our priorities right now is officer safety and the safety of the community. thank you. council president. good evening. i m deeply saddened by what s taking place in the great city of baltimore. this reminds me of 1968 when the riots took place through the assassination of dr. martin luther king where people were destroying their own stores and properties in their own community. this is unacceptable. this is not what freddie gray s family wanted. they asked there be no protests marches, or anything of that nature today. the organizers of those marches are not participating in what s taking place today. as the mayor has stated these are thugs who are seizing upon
pressurization. there can be a slow leak. there can be other leaks. typically, it could be leaks around doors and cargo and things like that. typically it s a valve. what happens is these valves fail. when they fail it can be a rapid decompression, or it can be a slow leak. in this case it had to be a rapid decompression for the pilots to respond as they did. everyone was very fortunate the pilots were able to get on their oxygen masks, were able to descend, and hopefully the passengers got their masks on as well. as we re going to talk to jean in a second again, going from 38,000 feet to 10,000 feet in three minutes. what does that feel like for these 75 passengers? it s like a roller coaster dive because that exceeds the recommended descent level for the plane. that s not to say the pilots did anything wrong. in fact that s exactly what they needed to do. if they re at 38,000 feet and had a rapid decompression, other than being higher that s the worst possible situation
