Down. Moments ago we saw this. Widespread destruction. This is near big basin in Santa Cruz County. And this is what it looks like for many of our mountain communities. Look down below. You could see those cars and those homes charred and destroyed. So far six people have died across our region. Over the weekend that czu fire claims the live of a 70yearold man near davenport. There is good news. As of right now the red flag warning for the bay area has been lifted. That means no more dangerous fire weather is in the immediate forecast. Also Evacuation Orders are beginning to scale back in santa clara. Some neighborhoods have been downgraded from Evacuation Orders to evacuation warnings. More on that in just a minute. Now our team is on the ground, across the region, covering the flames, covering all of the widespread damage and the weather conditions. Cal fire is starting their nightly press conference, lets listen in on czu fire fire. If you could mute your telephones and keep your masks on at all times. Just wanted to bring everybody up to speed. After the weather came through yesterday and we found ourselves here getting wet last night, over the course of the evening across california the cal fire confirmed there were over 300 lightning strikes in the state overall. Ten of those caused new fires or ten new fires occurred overnight. And zero, none of those fires occurred in the san Mateo Santa Cruz unit. So no lightning caused fires over the last 24 hours which if you remember 24 hours ago we were all highly concerned about with the red flag conditions. With that on the czu fire, were up to 78,684 acres. Obviously we get more specific on the numbers the more were able to ground truth it with people on the ground and confirming that this evening. We remain at 13 contained and have over 25,000 structures that still remain threatened due to the fire. We also could confirm this evening that 276 structures have been destroyed. That is both in san mateo and Santa Cruz County, a large majority are in Santa Cruz County and obviously that information will get down to the specifics as it gets released to each eoc at the county level. And finally some even better news, were up to 1,609 firefighters personnel assigned to this incident. Obviously every number of firefighters that comes on the line has a direct correlation to the containment that we could gain. So thango pass it off for an operational overview from cal fire im t3 ops section chief mark brenton. Good evening. So today with the weather that we had, really let us to get in there and do a lot of good work. Weve had a lot of progress on the fire today with the clear air, we were able to fly more aircraft, ill address that here shortly and on the ground, again, as we brought in more resources and able to get more heavy equipments and bulldozers that will help us construct those lines. In the north zone, were having Good Progress with our Line Construction continuing. The fire is still backing into the area but it is creeping. Were monitoring that. It is not making a threat to the communities but it is still advancing, albeit slowly. Thursday hall road in kilo that weve been talking about, that line has been improved. The fire is creeping into that and it is holding which is great because that is keeping fire from making any sort of advancement into potentially Santa Clara County. So that is looking really good. Were very happy with the results there. As we look at highway 9 corridor continued work along that corridor. Again, as ive said before, difficult terrain to work in and heavy fuels and not the most idea to put our control lines but were making due with it and making it work and it is holding in almost all locations. And the state park down below ben lomond, continued work in there. That is one of the challenging points, one of the areas that is a lot of work and a lot of planning but were making advancements there throughout. The south looking good. Our containment line, primary and secondary line is solid. The area that we burned in yesterday, fantastic. It is holding. It is doing what we want. And any fire that burned down to that is selfmitigated or it is holding on the line. So it really minimizes that threat to santa cruz and the uc campus. So it is looking very good. Happy with that, those results. An andy dune, a lot of structures out there and heavy fuel. Still fire creeping but again that is a lot of work digging in and getting after it and taking care of business. We did a small burn operation along empire grade road to martin road, that kind of putting in a nice control line for us. So it keeps spread going to the west and affecting more homes. And so that is a good control line to button that little bit up. And then as far as our air program, didnt fly any fixed wing air tankers but what was critical was the use of helicopters. We have six water dropping helicopter as signed to this incident and today was the best day yet. We dropped 200,000 gallons throughout the day in Fire Suppression activities with our helicopters. So with our ground troops, our aerial air force going, great day and a lot of good work out there and advancement moving forward with the weather. Were expecting, i think well have more days like this and hopefully get us closer to the end of suppressing this fire. Speaking next from the Santa Cruz CountySheriffs Office okay, youve been listening into a cal fire daily briefing. In the last week weve been doing this on a nightly basis, that is the most encouraging news weve received so far. Bottom line a lot of progress said cal fire. Theyre minimizing the threats in san mateo, Santa Clara County and the ucsc campus. A few figures for you. It is now 13 contained. However, 25,000 structures are still under a threat as of this hour. Now were streaming the rest of the News Conference on our website at nbcbayarea. Com. Janelle. As fire crews make progress on the czu fire, there are facing criticism. Some who live in the bonnie dune area saying cal fire did not do enough to save homes and taking matters into their own hands. Marianne favro has more on their frustrations. Reporter well, janelle, the fire is burning just up this road which is why you see the blockade behind me. Today we went into bonnie dune and talked to people who said that they felt that cal fire left them to fend for themselves. Home after home in bonnie dune destroyed. But today some who live here are questioning if some of the houses could have been saved by cal fire. I just think there is failure after failure and my friends down the road didnt need to lose their homes. Reporter she chose not to he keeping a close eye onr own flareups. Shes frustrated that fire crews told her they have no water yet she said they refused to tie into a working hydrant on her property. George sam has the same complaint. He said fire crews refused to hook up to this hydrant. That fire hydrant has 15,000 gallons of water against it. They would not hook up to it. Reporter neighbors decided to fend for themselves to they turned pickup trucks into water trucks as they work to protect homes. And theyre driving around with pickup trucks and shovels and garden hose. Reporter we reached out to cal fire to ask why fire crews didnt use private hydrants and they said they may have not had the adjustments. The first night they only had 15 engines and were outgunned by Mother Nature and forced to triage the response in order to save the most homes. I want to point out another concern. You see this sign behind me. It said looter goes home. Looting has been a big problem at this fire. A lot of people coming in from Alameda County and other areas and stealing from people who had to evacuate. Now the Sheriffs Department said they are cracking down on these looters and so far they have arrested more than eight people. Reporting live in Santa Cruz County, marianne favro, nbc bay area news. Thank you. And this is why the air quality is so unhealthy. Look at all of the smoke. At the czu fire over san gregoria, so north of peska daro, you could see the haze and the smoke and multiply this by three major other fires zones and that is the smoke that were seeing and breathing. Lets go to the north bay now. This video from lake county overnight. In nearby Sonoma County firefighters did get a break. The entire town of healdsburg was under an evacuation warning with the lightning strikes and high winds predicted did not materialize thankfully. Thom jensen joins us now in healdsburg with the latest. That is the gem of Sonoma County. What do you have there . Reporter it is a beautiful town. And that evacuation warning is still in place, including in the downtown where we are seeing the winds start to pick up a little bit late this afternoon. Bracing for more winds and possibly lightning hoping that doesnt happen like last night they made progress. And they did get more resources like the fire officials were talking about in the south bay fire and they were able to make progress with air support. And many evacuees returning home to neighborhoods now that the threat there has decreased. Fires within the lnu complex continue to race around inside of fire lines. One of the largest already burned more than 50,000 acres outside of the town of healdsburg. Firefighters able to keep flames from reaching downtown but there is still losses along many roads winding through the hills between healdsburg and geyserville. A lot of friends have lost their childhood homes and were grateful. Jennifer grew up in healdsburg and had to evacuation from their geyserville home this weekend. The whole family alsoful for the men and women on the front lines who saved their home from the wall bridge fire. Were talking about Public Safety and being very grateful for our firefighters and our ems. But this fire is far from contained and following the latest warnings from the daily fire briefings. The size and complexity of this fire is not one that weve seen in times past. Reporter praying for another good night on the fire lines outside of healdsburg. Praying her town will survive one of the largest fires in six days. I cant imagine what it would be like. It would be devastating. Reporter fire officials urging people to keep an eye on those briefings and the winds. The Evacuation Orders changed just as quickly as the winds do. And theyre urging people to get out when those orders do come in or even before they come in if they feel like theyre in danger. Live in healdsburg, thom jensen, nbc bay area news. So many of us are on pins and needles. The fires move and so does the evacuation lines. Lets bring in chris chmura. I gott a couple of alerts on my phone, places on the peninsula, palo alto hills and with the Fire Evacuation warning and then just about five minutes ago cal fire said theyre making great progress. This is the line youre talking about right here in yellow. So this is the czu fire and the scu fire here and here is portola road and skyline boulevard and then summit road along here. So this is the boundary. This is the pins and needles where you have to wonder what will happen over the next who knows how many days. Down to the southwest, though, this is in red, these are the Evacuation Orders. This dark line right here, that is the perimeter of the fire event. That is where it already burned so far. Let me take you up to the north where we do have some new information. This is where thom jensen was talking about, healdsburg here on the map. You could see a large yellow ushape and crooked u. And those are the evacuation warnings in Sonoma County. The good news is this section over here was previously an Evacuation Order and that earlier today was reduced down to an evacuation warning. That is a positive step in the right direction. To the scu fire, we have new information in the past hour or so, which is positive for the morgan hill area. This area right in here in yellow. So were talking about south of sunnyvale and san jose. Just to the north of gilroy. Morgan hill, the space to the east of u. S. 101 had previously been an Evacuation Order now reduced down to an evacuation warning. Just to reiterate what an evacuation warning is. It means you need to be careful about what is happening. Remain mindful and alert as to what is happening. But also it means if you have pets, if you have livestock or if you have trouble evacuating your home, it is best that you not return home. It is possible that people who were under the previous Evacuation Order, which is an order to leave, it is possible they could return home. Though cal fire is advising people that it is entirely possible you could go home and still wont have utilities. So try to make that decision very carefully as you approach your neighborhood. There should be a checkpoint and you should be able to check in with the Law Enforcement officer to tell you what is happening in your neighborhood. So again, this is the scu fire down here. This is the czu fire right here. Let me take you back up to the north for one last moment because i want you to show you what you could see from space. So the red spots here are indicators of hot spots and fires that are occurring in the state throughout the day today. And so here are your points. We have napa, fairfield and vacaville and spots up toward clear lake. So you could understand why the evacuation warnings and orders cover such a huge swath of our area because we have so many red spots on the map right here. And then down to the south, here is the czu fire. Here is san mateo and redwood city and san jose and the red spots and over to the least, look at all of the red spots in the scu fire. So fremont, livermore, san jose, down to the south, gilroy and morgan hill. So all of the red spots are reason for us to remain absolutely alertd and vigilant with all of this. Evacuations difficult but now you have to add an unprecedented complication, covid19. The state trying to manage how to house potentially thousands of evacuees without exposing them to the coronavirus. Jessica aguirre has been looking into the new evacuation protocols. What could you tell us . Reporter well, janelle, the short answer is that you dont crowd people. That is what the governor is talking about. He said this covid versus fire issue has to follow the same protocol on our new normal, Wearing Masks and having social distancing and trying to keep all of those things together. So Governor Newsom said there are 17 shelters up and running and the facilities have rules, no congregating and ten feet apart and families in tents so they could stay to themselves. Air purifiers and most Important Health screenings that the governor himself went through this weekend. Yesterday down in santa cruz, at a Community College facility that was being managed by the local red cross, there was a nurse there that screened me. She didnt just take my temperature. But she also asked me a series of questions before i could go into the actual shelter, there was another assessment that was done. There were specific protocols on physical distancing and instructions around social distancing that was provided before i even get the tour facility. Reporter so, in addition to the shelters, the governor said they also are housing people in 31 hotels. They have about 1500 evacuees in those as well. The covid19 protocols being followed by firefighters. In their base camps where they didnt have to do that before. So he said it is all about replicating what were doing in our normal life as well as with firefighters and with the cases. He said cases are trending down and hed like to keep it that way. Jessica, thank you. Well as we kick off week number two of the unhealthy air quality, what could we do to make things better even a little bit, anything to keep the smoke out of our house. Our business and tech reporter scott budman looks at what might work. The shelves at this San Francisco target are nearly bare. They used to hold air purifiers and airconditioning units but in stores and online bay area residents have been snatching them up. I have one at home. And then when i say with my boyfriend, he just got an air purifier. And do they help . I would say so. Theyve helped the air quality inside of the house. Reporter some online outlets say they too are now sold out or at least unable to ship products. Bad news for those trying to keep what is out here from getting inside their homes. My face is more irritated and my eyes get redtc. I have allergies. This is understandable. This is a stressor to the lungs. Reporter doctors say air purifiers could help but not worth leaving your house for. So are damp towels around unsealed windows or doors. They say wearing a mask inside is okay, too. If you smell a smoke certainly in your house, that is a reason to wear that mask. Reporter the doctor went on to say that some of the bad air partic particles are likely to get into your home no matter what precautions you take so avoid strenuous exercise even indoors over the next couple of days. Scott budman, nbc bay area news. Scott is in San Francisco and we have some fog moving in to help clear some of the air out. Where else could be see some relief, jeff . Well near the bay as we head through tonight and tomorrow. And also for some of the inland areas. So good news on the air quality. I wanted to start off and show you the storm ranger scan. It is our mobile Doppler Radar and after some thunderstorms getting real close to the bay area last night, early this morning, you could see it is dry across northern california. But i do want to draw your acontinuati attention to this. Overnight, isolated thunderstorms that could develop north of us. Thunderstorms could be very rogue so well have our eyes glued on this radar if anything gets close to the bay area. Now, we just mentioned the fog moving in at the coastline. That is what were seeing on this live sky camera view. That is not smoke, this is fog. We even had some blue sky in San Francisco today. But then, there you go. There is all of the smoke moving into the Central Valley right now. So what does this mean for us tonight . Much improved air quality. We just got the latest updates and you could see near the coastline, also the bay, were now considered to be moderate. Even some huge improvements back to concord and hayward, reading 112. But still considered spare the air but it is a big, big drop for us. Most unhealthy air is in san jose and also in livermore from our extremely large fire down there across the Higher Elevations in the south bay. Fire forecast on the fire lines. I do expect cooler temperatures tomorrow. There is a lot of this, but find the fire close to you and you could see the conditions. Tomorrow we drop it down to 90 in the north bay. Gusts of only 20 miles per hour. For the south bay, 85 degrees and wind gusts of 20. So that will help firefighters. And over to the Santa Cruz Mountains, 78 and wind gusts of only 20. So right now the weather is cooperating. As best as it can in august. Well talk more about some of that thunderstorm activity we might see off to the north and what our chances are. Ill have forge loanother look fiveday forecast. We have more updates gist after this break. Stay with us. They will not have adequate Insurance Coverage to fully rebuild. Tonight a look at how shelters have had to innovate during this pandemic just like so many of us. Here is nbc bay areas ian cull. Reporter in the pandemic, when many are staying home, there are still many animals waiting to join a family. In 2020, like so many of us, Human SocietySilicon Valley has had to adapt. Theyve pivoted from inperson adoptions to zoom appointments. It is a cool way to get to know our clients in a whole new way. Were getting to tour peoples houses and make customized recommendations. Reporter an adoption adviser helps figure out which dogs and cats might make a good fit. Hes very motivated by treats. Reporter then they walk you through the process and you meet the pet virtually. It is a silver lining. I think the time were spending with people because adoptions are by appointment, we have the full hour, hour and 20 minutes to spend with the person. This couple look for a dog since both will work from home until next year. We live in a small apartment were looking for a small to medium dog. So it would be a great time to actually spend time with a dog and train and have the time to train it. Reporter for clear the shelters, theyre doing a kitten match program where you could give them a preference for what you like or they could pick for you forra discount. After the end of the month, if people want to be completely surprised and open to any age, gender or color, they would pick that option and it is a 20 adoption fee. Luckily adoptions are up this year as people staying home look for a companion. The number of people willing to foster is also up. But there is still a need. It is the perfect time to bring a puppy into your home, a cat or a kitten. You have time to get them acclimating. Reporter and if you are ready and willing, there are dozens of animals waiting for you. In milpitas, ian cull, nbc bay area news. Thank you. Theyre all so cute. Find a list of participating shelt ever shelters at nbcbayarea. Com, we have a special clear the shelters effort this saturday. Up next, back to our fire coverage. We talk to the son of a woman who died in the fire in napa county. His urgent plea for people in the path of flames. What should you bring . Toiletries. Close all of the windows and remove curtains. Leave a light on in each room so firefighters could more easily spot your home. Outside move anything away that you can. Take a ladder and prop it up outside of your house and pull your hose where firefighters could see it. Make sure your home is the easiest one to protect. Right now at 6 30, the threat of lightning has passed. At least for now. But the danger is far from over. These fires continue to spread leaving thousands of people in limbo. The three complex fires continue to burn across the bay area. And janelle, about 15 minutes ago we got new information from the fire in san mateo and santa cruz counties and it is very good news. That is the czu fire, cal fire said there was a lot of progress today and minimized the threat to many of the perimeter city as long the peninsula like Portola Valley and palo alto hills. Containment now at 13 . This fire has killed one person. Then there is the scu fire burning across alameda and Contra Costa County. It spans 347,000 acres and it is 10 contained. This fire is now the Third Largest fire in california history. In the north bay, the lnu fire is in sonoma and napa counties, flames have scorched 350,000 acres and it is 22 contained. Five people have died in that fire which has become the second largest in california history. Five People Killed in that fire. Three in napa county. Two in solano county. Today the family are urging others to listen to evacuation warnings and follow them. Nbc bay areas Jodi Hernandez talked with a Family Member in the bern zone where relatives are grieving. She was one of the most caring people that ive ever met. Reporter Robert Mcneal is dealing with the loss of his mother. He said his best friend. 70yearold mary hint meyer died last week with her boyfriend Leo Mcdermott and his son Tom Mcdermott when the fire swept through their napa county home. They called the planes off and the next thing you know it reerupted and went through the whole canyon and nobody had a chance. Reporter his brother drove out to the road block but came back for her boyfriend who was in a wheelchair. She texted a photo of the fire and said they might have to go into the root cellar. Then the Text Messages stopped. The three did seek refuge in what they called the root cellar. Basically a makeshift fire shelter build in the side of a hill. This is where searchers found their remains. I was scared. I mean, her biggest fear was burning and she didnt even want to be cremated. And that is pretty much the way things ended up. Reporter mcneal wants others to understand the importance of heeding evacuation warnings. And not to be fooled into thinking you could survive. Dont worry about your stuff. Your family is going to have to deal with the aftermath of you not getting out and that is way worse than losing your property. Reporter down the road, the fire zrodestroyed part of the marine and boat launch but the owner said his loss pales in comparison to what his neighbors are dealing with. Well get by and be okay. I worry about the folks further up this road that have lost everything. Reporter in napa county, Jodi Hernandez, nbc bay area news. Across the bay area, more than 100,000 people are under Evacuation Orders. Thousands more are under evacuation warnings. Santa cruz county by far has the most people out of their homes at about 65,000 people evacuated. Alameda county about 20,000 evacuees. Napa county has about 13,000. Sonoma county evacuations have gone down to about 12,000 and santa clara and san mateo counties with about 1600 people combined. Not just people, but animals and livestock are on the move. About two dozen horses are favely stabled at the cal palace this evening. The horses live at the sierra west equestrian in woodside. The owner of the property said hes always had an evacuation plan and yesterday keeping an eye on the czu fire he decided it was go time. The San Mateo County large Evacuation Group and the owners were able to safely move 25 horses to daly city. I have to say that the animals are very calm and i think part of that is the professionalism of the people around them and as i said, horses reflect our feelings. So when people are stable and not panicking, the horses are stable and not panicking. Great to have the cal palace back to use. Because they are herd animals had helps when the horses would stay with horses they already know. The cal palace has been taking in livestock since friday. Head to our website for complete coverage. We have a lot of information here. Nbcbayarea. Com for all of the information, all of the various fires and the evacuations, that includes helpful maps detailing the evacuations. The state Supreme Court over turned the Death Penalty of scot peterson. Hes the man convicted of murdering her wife lacy and their unborn son on Christmas Eve 2002. Today the court ruled the trial judge wrongly excluded jurors opposed to the Death Penalty. Legal analysts say that hes entitled to a new Death Penalty hearing. The judge does not have discretion. He cannot exclude people just because they have reservations about the Death Penalty. In the decision, the court upheld petersons guilty verdict meaning his lawyers must decide whether to request a new penalty hearing or accept a sentence of life without parole. Back to the fire coverage and not just fires, but the smoke. When it might be Getting Better and how bad is it out there in terms of the unhealthiness. Stay with us. A unique look at the front lines of a fire fight. These are cal fire crews conducting fire operations on cloverdale road in San Mateo County. This is the czu fire, that means theyre setting fires on purpose. The flames burn up the fuel helping to stop forward progress of the fire. This is pictures from the czu lightning complex fire. Straight days of poor air quality and lets bring in chris chmura to tell us a comparison of what were breathing out there. And i dont think this is a good conversation. No offense, chris. None taken. One of the terms that sciences use is micrograms per cubic meter. We converted that to cigarettes because that is easier to take in that micrograms per cubic meter. So here is what we found in places like the Santa Cruz Mountains today, breathing in the air all day long might be equivalent to about 20 cigarettes. A full pack. All right. So how do we come up with say nine in vallejo, six in livermore. We started off by looking at this formula that the berkeley earth folks created. Berkeley earth is a nonprofit Science Organization and the research earps there calculated a rule of them that lets us translate effect news one cigarette per day. So we took that crossreference it with the epa map of ongoing pollution concerns and you could see that the u. S. Is under that logo there but you could see california is just a mess. The dark colors indicate lousy air. So when we did that conversion and we ended up with the maps that you could see that we have the 20 cigarettes, a full pack in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Other places, four in walnut creek and nine in vallejo. Underneath the colors of the base map, there is a correlation, the darker the colors, the higher the numbers. Because the darker the colors are where the lousier air is and the more cigarettes you smoked. But even in the maps yellow region, so where you see yellow, it is still 1 1 2 in san jose and up in berkeley same deal. The underlying map in berkeley is yellow and yet it is 1 1 2 cigarettes and the computer doesnt want to play today. And if you could stay inside, please do. If you can. Because that air is not healthy for you guys at all. We want to smoke zero cigarettes, i believe. You got a yes from me. For sure. Very bad for our lungs. Well the air quality a little bit better in San Francisco and along the coast. Ho hopefully well see improvement, here is jeff ranieri. Im going to show you a real dam attic image when we come back of what is happening to help you clear out this air, at least for now for a few parts of the bay area in just a few minutes. This Fire Outbreak is a reminder to reassess everything, your go bag and escape route. And i want to talk about your wildfire home insurance. Experts are predicting many of the people whose houses are burning down, they will not have adequate Insurance Coverage to rebuild. Most Homeowners Policies auto renew and largely do not keep pace with rising Construction Costs. So please do the math, talk to your Insurance Agent and go to our website for tips to avoid an underinsurance surprise. The rnc has kicked off, this is a live look at the Republican National convention. A look at Kimberly Guilfoyle, exwife of gavin newsom. They hope to energize the base and sway undecided voters as the Convention Kicks off this week. It started today with President Trump in North Carolina as more than 300 delegates formally nominated him for a second term. Unless the democrats virtual convention, live audiences will be involved during the rnc. It moved to washington, d. C. Tonight. Among the notable speakers, Kimberly Guilfoyle and donald trump jr. Today he hit on the familiar themes. Want to thank everybody for the incredible support. Be very, very careful. This is going to be, and i really believe this, this is the most important election in the history of our country. Dont let them take it away from you. Also today joe biden picked up endorsements from more than two dozen former republican members of congress including senator jeff flake. Lets bring in larry gurston. We just heard the president say this is the important most important election in the history of the country. The democrats had a similar theme last week. Yeah, it is amazing how you look at these sides. Theyre almost mirror images. Theyre blaming each other in many cases for the same things only it is the other sides fault. Clearly one thing is true. This is a consequential election. We say that every four years but this one seems to be very important. Who are the republicans going after. Im watching tonight right after the newscast, who will i see that theyre targeting . First of all, they have to solidify the base. That goes without saying. Secondly theyre go after independents and thirdly after the democrats who either didnt vote or voted for themselves republicans last time, they want to keep them and make sure they come back. That is a tough one, particularly because this time around the negatives on President Trump are much greater than the negatives are on joe biden. So they have a tough hill to climb there. What roles will some prominent californians play in this convention beginning tonight. Californians will not be prominent other than Kevin Mccarthy who is the leader of the republican minority in the house. California as a whole will play a big role, why . Because will cite this state over and over again for all of the things weve gone wrong. How we dont rake leaves when it comes to wildfire forest fires and mailin ballots and how were the home of craved socialists and so california will be really a target for him over and over again. Much more than any individual. Last question, well make it relatively quick here, do you believe some of the polling that shows that biden is ahead . The polling is consistent enough that it looks like hes about eight to ten points ahead. But eight to ten points with 70 days to go, doesnt mean very much. That could dwindle quick. Well talk with you tomorrow as we recap what happened tonight. Lets get a check of the forecast and our air quality. Jeff ranieri teased something to show us, a map about our air quality . Yes. Super dramatic picture for us right now. Over the past two to three hours weve seen the fog move and it is hoped to stir out of the smoke near the coast, also the bay, even for parts of Contra Costa County right now. So you could see this split screen ive put together and the dramatic shot is in San Francisco. Look on the lefthand side of your screen. That is not smoke. That is some very thick fog moving in. Even a little bit of drizzle as well. So this is helping to flush out this smoke. We had that in San Francisco. And while livermore still had some thick smoke, it is actually improving a little bit. I know it is hard to tell from that view. But things are getting a little bit better right now from the foggy breeze that is starting to return. So that is part one of things that i wanted to show you. Lets move on to next thing. We just were narrowly missed by thunderstorms earlier this morning. Radar is quiet right now. But i do want to draw your attention to something im following tonight and that is going to be some thunderstorms just to the north of the bay area. Thunderstorms are very rogue. They could sometimes move a little bit closer than anticipated so weve got our eyes glued to the radar for that. Let me give you a picture of what it would look like. Here at 5 00 in the morning, just outside of guerneville and areas to the north, rainfall developing and maybe thunderstorms around 5 00 in the morning, we see that chance hold steady through 7 00 a. M. And then by tomorrow afternoon, the best chance is over the sierra. So we still have unstable air moving across northern california. Three main fire zones, north bay, south bay and Santa Cruz Mountains. Main point here is that were not seeing too much wind tomorrow. And temperatures are cooling off a bit. We have 90 degrees here for the fire in the north bay. Down to the south bay, were also dropping temperatures to 86 and that is due to the fog that is developing and wind gusts of 20 miles per hour. Over to the Santa Cruz Mountains, winds, the lack of wind will also help firefighters. Gusts of 20 and temperatures dropping down to 78 degrees. San francisco, 60s next several days. 40 chance of dry lightning tomorrow. 35 chance wednesday. 10 chance on thursday.
