It means certain businesses either have to move outdoors or they have to completely shut down. Of the three counties added today, one is in the bay area. Napa county. Napa joins contra costa, marin and solano. Nearly 12,000 people have tested positive overnight. About 2,000 of those cases are due to a backlog in reporting in l. A. County. If you take out those cases, theres still a record level. President trump doubling down on his push to have kids return to classrooms in august. The president threatening to cut off federal funding to schools that dont resume inperson instruction in the fall. What happens now in napa county . How does this impact businesses and which ones . Napa is one of the first to reopen. Because of its low number of cases. But it will reverse course. Janelle, so frustrating for people here. And disappointing. Businesses still trying to recover from the original shutdown have to shut down operation s again. Napa county added to the watch list again. Many indoor operations will have to stop for three weeks. Lets give you the list. This includes indoor dining, museums, movie theaters, card rooms, bars must fully close down. Indoor operations at wineries and tasting rooms. Thats the heart 1of napa valle. They have taken a huge financial hit after shutting down for months. They just reopened a month ago. To receive word they have to shut down again, restaurants we spoke with say its a huge setback. Its difficult. We just have to deal with it. Its affecting everyone. They are still allowed to do takeout and outside dining. Thats barely enough to keep operations going. I just spoke with a winery. They said, sadness. Its so das poiisappointing. They will take indoor tastings outdoor starting tomorrow. You have to book ahead. They cant have too many people there. They will go ramping up the virtual wine tasting and happy hour. They did that during the pandemic when they had to shut down. Thats going to start again. This is the number of new cases each day. Its flat. You see the blue line here. Until mid june. Then it spikes. By this week, 6,600 new cases were reported. As we mentioned, the state had 11,000 new cases overnight which means once this chart is updated, we will see a bigger spike. Where are the hot spots . L. A. County the biggest spike with more than 1,500 new cases followed by riverside and orange counties. One bay area county is on this map, Contra Costa County with 236 cases, new cases overnight. The president s determination to reopen the schools as we mentioned this fall doesnt mesh with cdc guidelines. The white house is now writing its own. Facing a record increase in covid cases, they will issue its own reopening map. This comes after President Trump attacked a blueprint from the centers for decease control as being tough and too expensive. If schools dont reopen he threatened he would withhold federal education funds. Its absolutely essential that we get our kids back into classrooms for inperson learning. We will be looking for ways to give states a strong incentive and encouragement to get kids back to school. Forbes reports stanford may join todays harvard and m. I. T. Lawsuit seeking to block the white house from revoking visas for International Students enrolled in schools in that will not hold inperson classes. What the fall semester will look like depends on each district. In San Francisco, the Health Department is weighing in on what schools need to do to safely get kids back in the classroom. Reporter this man is president of the board of education, the district has held town Hall Meetings as they develop a plan for school in the fall. It may mean a small group are able to go back at the beginning and most are at home. Thats a hybrid model. We dont know exactly what it will look like. Whatever we do end on will be the safest route that we can take for families, students and staff. Reporter the department of Public Health released guidance to allow students back if conditions allow, including mandatory face coverings, physical distancing and limiting nonessential visits. Staggered schedules to prevent the mixing of cohorts in ha hallways and at arrival. Reporter it would need authorization from the health officer. Budget cuts coming to the superior Court Effective immediately. Staff will be furloughed one day per month until at least december. You can expect longer response times and fewer hearings. Rarely do we talk about budget cuts at Stanford University. It is among the richest universities in the world. Announcing today it will drop 11 varsity sports after next year, including wrestling, mens volleyball and field hockey. Whats happening on campus . Stanfords Athletic Department says it was dealing with a 12 million deficit before the pandemic. So the decision was made rather than cut parts of all sports, some had to go. The varsity sports being dropped by Stanford University after the 20202021 Academic Year may not be considered major sports. Historically, the school has taken pride in its broad athletic spectrum. It provides 36 varsity sports is one of the most offered by a division i university. After the seasons end, these 11 sports will disappear, men and womens fencing, field hockey, lightweight rowing, mens rowing, coed and womens sailing, squash, synchronized swimming, mens volleyball and wrestling. It came after officials realized the existing 12 million shortfall could get worse. When we got into the pandemic, think about the decline in sponsorship, in having people in the stands and other factors as well, the number ballooned to 25 million. You can see this area of high pressure. This is whats bringing in the heat. Its getting stopped somewhat about the mild air to the north and the foggy breeze at the coastline.
