Back to you. A dangerous night in vallejo as authorities try to chase down a lotting suspect at speeds of more than 100 miles an hour. In one of those cases officers opened fire. Today in the bays bob redell is live for us outside of that walgreens in vallejo. Bob, what are like the investig is cleared up. Reporter the officers are removing the crime scene tape. The shooting happened at the drivethrough of this walgreens at broadway and redwood in vallejo. Police pretty much have wrapped up and collected their evidence. This hammed around 12 30 this morning. We believe there was a suspect who was looting the store, this walgreens, was confronted by police. The suspect then rammed an Unmarked Police vehicle, was shot at by an officer and then sped off. The condition of the officer who was rammed, we dont know their condition, but we believe theyre okay. There was a chase. The suspect was caught and placed in an ambulance in the city of rodeo. Its not clear if that person was hit by the Police Gunshots on if they were being transported for some sort of other injury. Their condition is unknown. Just down the street from us Law Enforcement chased two other looting suspects. They hit speeds of 100 miles an hour. This is video i captured as they were blasting out of vallejo. The chase ended up coming back through vallejo south into Contra Costa County. Both men are in custody. They had broken into a store that sells ball caps and other sporting apparel. This happened right in front of the security guards they didnt care that we were here, went about their business. They didnt feel threatened at all. He chased them off. He got real close to them. I aint a superhero. Reporter hes your buddy, right . Yeah, yeah. Reporter and not far from there Law Enforcement overnight arrested three other people for looting, the safeway here in vallejo. They had smashed the front doors of that grocery store. It appears they were trying to make off with a case of bud light when they were caught. Vallejo did and does have a curfew in effect from 8 00 last night until 5 00 in the morning. We heard from the public informations officer and said thriot related activity from th overnight. Certainly a busy night there. Thank you, bob. Following breaking news in las vegas now where at least one officer was shot during a protest during the strip and is said to be on life support right now. The responding officers did arrest the suspect. Police say this started when someone fired in the midst of a large protest. There were people that were throwing rocks and other things at officers before the shooting. Police are also investigating a separate officer involved shooting at a federal courthouse n. Th. In that case the suspect is dead. Curfews over this morning and all of those bay area major cities, well, they all have one in place. Many of the curfews are already extended through at least the rest of the week. More than 100 people were arrested in Alameda County last night after the curfews there took effect. About 80 of those people were arrested in oakland where nobody is supposed to be out on the streets past 8 00 at night. Most of the people were gathered downtown at broadway and 14th. Some protesters tried to assault officers when they were told to move on because it was past fur tu. Curfew. After 8 00 p. M. Officers were having rocks and bottles thrown at them, assaults against officers. We announced multiple times unlawful assembly. The number of arrests represents just a tiny fraction of all the people protesting in oakland yesterday. You saw the crowd shots. We estimate about 15,000 people there. The group ended up outside oakland city hall. From there a Splinter Group then went off their own way toward Police Headquarters only to be driven back by flash bangs and tear gas. In the south bay the damage from looting and destruction is said to be in the millions of dollars. And theres still a lot of cleanup under way. Today in the bays thom jensen joins us live from san jose with the council which could vote to maybe even extend the curfew order. Tom . Reporter Police Officers have been patrolling the streets and able to keep people off the streets to abide by the curfew order thats been in place here since all that violence erupted over the weekend. 8 30 p. M. To 5 00 a. M. That curfew is in place. Not seeing the violence. Some protesters think the curfews are aimed at them. Free speech and assembly rights. It was a weeklong order that had a caveat of being in place until further notice as city officials try to gauge the temperament of the looters and others distracting from the real purpose of the protests. I know they announced it as a sevenday order. I would be surprised if it lasts seven days. I expect fully that well lift it as soon as we have a sense that things have really calmed down. Reporter as youve seen curfew violators have been arrested in locations. But for the most part the looting and vandalism that forced the hands of Community Leaders really to enact curfews has mostly ended, and its not just here in san jose today where city officials are going to be deciding whether or not to lift or keep the curfew orders in place. Also Contra Costa County at 9 30 this morning making that same decision, whether or not to keep curfews in place to keep the peace. Were live in san jose, thom jensen, today in the bay. Were not going to take it. Terrence floyds visit happened the same day an independent autopsy report came out indicating that george floyd, his brother, died from asphyxiation. That report differs from the official conclusion made by the coroner there. Just about 15 minutes on the today show the floyd family attorney will talk about that just released report thats at 7 00 right after today in the bay. In the wake of George Floyds death and the nationwide protest two black mothers who lost their sons in highprofile cases are speaking out on today.
