Trying to answer when conducted 25city that start summer. The cdc is conducting that, and San Francisco will be one of the locations where that study is put together. Now, the researchers need blood and volunteers willing to give it. 1,000 samples each month will be collected in 25 major cities, including San Francisco. That will be 300,000 blood samples. A nationwide blood Collection Company will be collecting the donations. Dr. John torres says they will look the at the antibodies in the blood samples and help them understand how long they offer protection against the virus and how its spread. It will give us an idea how many antibodies they produce, how long they last and what protection they are giving us against coronavirus, not just short term but long term. We dont know how long that the immunity is going to last. That will help. So many questions. Again, that is going to start this summer. And theyre going to be looking for volunteers including here in the bay area, which is one of the first places that is going to launch the study. Now, the company says who is going to be a volunteer. They want regular people. They dont want people that are super, super healthy and they dont want people who are vulnerable. They want people down the middle so they can get a baseline what mean tos for the virus. It continues to be questions, the more questions that are answered, the more questions they have about covid 1, how it spreads and how we can protect ourselves. We need more tests and data. Thank you. Up next at 6 30, why nancy pelosi brought up the President Trumps age and weight and criticize you had him for the drug. A critical decision that will impact restaurants in san jose. Right now at 6 30, are trump and his decision to use hydroxychloroquine. The drug, President Trump says its a personal decision for him to use that drug. He went to capitol hill today, without wearing a mask, to meat with republican lawmakers. He started taking it after two staffers tested ps tif for the virus. Its just a line of defense. Just a line of defense. Im dealing with a lot of people. Look the at all the people in the room. Im the president. Especially in his age group and shall we say weight group, morbidly owe beez, they say. They suggest that the president not take medicine. Speaker pelosi. The treasury secretary defended the trump strigss handling of the economy. They accuse the white house of forcing workers to choose between their jobs and lives. And they spoke to a senate committee, and told them they forced states to end the lockdown. They suggest slowing the line of meat plants and providing more protective equipment. How many workers should give their lives to increase the gpd of the dow jones by 1,000 points. No work shoulder do that. And i think your characterization is unfair. We have provided equipment, we have done a terrific job. They testified that some Government Programs designed to redistribute relief funds are not up and running. Okay, hopeful news surrounding the virus today. The daily death toll going down, and a new study says you might not be able to get the virus two. Joining us is dr. Hong. Great news over the weekend. No deaths in the bay area two days in a row. First time since early march. What does that tell you . I think a lot of people are hopeful right now. The sun is shining. That is the why we feel in your hearts and gov now newsom revised his criteria, before that, he said no deaths for 14 days and now he is moderating that a bit. If we dont soo a decline, that if that doesnt vary, we can still proceed and hopefully to phase two and three. Yeah, in the past, every time we got a death, it reset the clock and now its moving in a more rational direction. Big headline out of south korea and a new study. Patient thought to be getting the virus again, may not have the been may have been a false positive test . Yeah, well, it wasnt a false positive. Its picking up viral fragments and we see that a lot. Because whats positive and whats negative at the borderline is very imprecise. What you are finding, is that its probably not a real negative. And we know e the studies, eight days is probably okay and then the virus is dead. You try to culture it. Basically, they got covid19. They tested positive. And then time passed. And they took another test and it was positive again but it wasnt like they were reinfected with the drug again no, i dont think reinfection is going to be a big thing. Im not convinced by that data. The president , the headline this week, using hydroxychloroquine as a preventative measure. We know that the cdc is not recommending to use it unless youre in the hospital, and kit be harmful to your heart and even deadly. I have never heard of hydro hydroxychloroquine used for that purpose. Could it help . There is a study out of the university of minnesota where they are looking at that. But i know they have been having problems mainly because of the increased recognition that the drugs can cause cardiac problems. If you want to use it, you have to get an ekg before you can use it. He has a doctor an hand 24 7 so they are watching him closely. Is that a thing for preventative measurers . That is no data that would make me use it. I worry if a lot of people use it, that means people who need it, who have lupus or arthritis wont be able to get it. A lot of talk about ram rem december veer. You called it, i remember, you saul it the silver medalist . You are getting enough of that an at ucsf . Right knew, we can get it in a trial, and one is through a donation. The donation isnt a lot. Because we various reasons. We dont have a lot of cases in the bay area. As long as we have the trial, the patients can get access to the drug. But once the trial is done, we have to decide who getting the drug and who doesnt. Its ethical rationing argument. Its based on peoples conditions . What is the protocol for that . There are a lot of discussions, and everyone is the same in terms of sickness, how do you choose between two of three people. The discussion, should be it random, first come, first serve or on essential workers . At the end of the day, i think most people are going for random. It feels unsettling other wise to go for some of the those are the options. Wow, difficult decision and things to contemplate. Thanks for joining us again. Thanks.
