As of yesterday there were nearly 1,500 cases of covid19 in san jose, which is the majority of cases in Santa Clara County. New data from the county Public Health department shows latinos are getting sick at higher rates, accounting for 38 o of cases, but only 27 of the population. The shelter order says you can only socialize with people who live in your household and story road is a no cruising zone anyway, so keep the party at home. Of those, they ordered almost 300 to leave the area because they had traveled more than ten miles from their home. Eight people were given written citations. Were waiting for dr. Sara cody, top county health officer, to address what the next step needs to be for the county to arrest and deal with the covid19 outbreak. Here are highlights from her and april, the past two months. For instance, even though the shelter in place is working, they dont believe the pandemic is going to end anytime soon. We could see multiple spikes in cases, especially towards the end of the year. And in consisteconsistent stand shelter in place protocols here in the bay area and throughout the country puts averaeveryone risk. There are three goals, to target infections, trace and isolate those who are infected. But there are many barriers to that. Many test locations are underutilized. The county plans to advertise to get more team to those sites. Health care providers arent testing enough. The county continues to encourage them to test more. And laboratories are not being sent enough specimens. Theyre actually under capacity. Now, goes, the county can currently investigate 25 new cases a day. They believe they need to get the capacity up. As far as the status of personal protective equipment, ppe, hospital needs are being met because the patient volume is low. The county acquired some ppe but theyre still short of gowns and n95 masks. Theyre asking hospitals to certify a 30day supply of ppe, they want them to do this on a continuing basis. Even though things are good now with ppe with the exception of n95 masks and gowns, they believe those needs will be more crucial in the coming months because they expect to see multiple spikes especially towards the end of the year. Two more testing sites opened today in the north bay, both as part of governor newsoms plan to expand testing statewide. Similar sites opened yesterday, including one in san jose. The sites opening today, in santa rosa and petaluma, are both by appointment only. 3,000 americans could die and 200,000 more could become infected every day beginning june 1 according to new projections. The numbers were revealed in an internal Trump Administration document. It comes as many states begin ea stayathome orders. Johns Hopkins University which worked with fema to develop the data says the numbers are for scenario planning only and not as a forecast. President trump is dismissing the claims. The white house says in a statement that the document is not from the administration and did not go through a proper vetting process. A developing story, Santa Clara Police are investigating a double shooting. We first told you about this story as breaking news on today in the bay. Police now say the victim, a 56yearold man, and a 16yearold girl, were treated for nonlifethreatening injuries. This happened around 2 30 this morning on homestead road near lawrence expressway. No word on a suspect description or a motive. The search is on this morning for a missing santa rosa man. Police are trying to find 82yearold t seen wearing a whe bucket hat, jacket, and jeans. While very few children are becoming infected, new york city doctors say those that are, and they have seen them become very ill. 19 they say 15 children are in the hospital with some kind of severe inflammation. It can send their bodies into a state of shock and cause organ failure. One of those childrens mother whose daughter is expected to make a full recovery is sending a strong message to parents everywhere. Meanwhile, a new study is being funded aiming to give a clear picture of how the coronavirus is impacting kids in the u. S. Doctors say the children diagnosed with coronavirus are either asymptomatic or only have minor symptoms, and because of that, many dont get tested. Experts are trying to relive some of the mental relieve some of the mental stress people are experiencing for expectant mothers faced with delivering at the hospital where coronavirus patients are being treated. Some expectant mothers fear contracting the virus and passing it on to their kids. The president of the nonprofit march of dimes says there are ways to manage those fears. Try as much as possible to manage that stress and anxiety with plenty of rest, eating healthifully, exercising, breathe, all the things we know to do, and all the things we all have to do, maintaining our social distance, doing proper hand washing hygiene, wearing a mask out in public. They also recommend contacting the hospital where you plan to deliver to find out what changes have been made and how to prepare. A huge fourth of July Fireworks show in the south bay is canceled. The summer spare the air season began yesterday and of course a record low number of cars on the road is getting things off to a clean start. Air district leaders say pollutants have dropped 20 or more during the pandemic. And that has been good to enjoy the sights and the sunshine as were dealing with clear skies, kari. Yeah, were getting fresh air along with comfortable temperatures. I was taking a look at all our sensors that measure particulate matter and pollution in the air. Theyre all green, showing good air quality. So it looks like even as we widen out the view and look all across california, were seeing some pretty good air quality except for around the l. A. Area. A little more pollution there, that could be because were seeing High Pressure build and some stagnant air as our heat starts to build. Well feel that, so enjoy today, because well see hotter temperatures moving in. We still have some fog along the coastline. Live in woodside right now, you can see the fog in the distance along the bay area coast. And right now at half moon bay, thats keeping those temperatures really cool. Were at 54 degrees right now. You compare that to the 72 we have in concord as those temperatures start to heat up. Were at 65 in san jose. And still a comfortable 66 degrees in napa. As we look at ways to get outside, enjoy the fairly mild weather, maybe grilling out in the backyard, spending time with family, in the north bay, around petaluma, expect 80 degrees at 3 00, as youre preparing dinner. The temperatures will be in the autop upper 70s, a little warm, but nothing compared to what we have coming our way. As we look at our microclimates and high temperatures today, low 80s for the south bay. Well see more of those 80s for the east bay, reaching 83 in antioch. In oakland, expect a high of 75 degrees. Along the coastline well see some low 60s there and also in palo alto, a little bit warmer as we reach into the upper 70s. For San Francisco, were seeing in the 60s today. And for the north bay, expect highs to reach up to about 80 degrees inre still looking at High Pressure building once air High Pressure, it compresses, warms up, and gives us some very hot temperatures. And quite often it also gives us an offshore wind flow. It wont be til the end of the weekend when we start to see changes coming in with some cooler air. That also coincides with mothers day. Even though it will be hot, these next couple of days, and even peaking at 93 degrees on friday, were going to have a cooldown and time for sunday into early next week. Now back to you, marcus.
