From businesses to churches, new protocols are being put in place almost every day to help stop the spread of the virus. Marianne favro has been taking a look at some of the changes for us. Marianne . Reporter the diocese of san jose has just asked all of its parrish, including st. Lucie in campbells to make two important changes regarding holy water and communion. You will find rocks instead of holy water at our lady of Guadalupe Church in san jose. At cathedral basilica of st. Joseph the font is covered. The diocese is making the changes to protect against the possible spread of coronavirus. The bishop has asked to let the parishes empty those fonts so that any water that might be contaminated by somebody who might be carrying a germ on their hands and then touches that water, that they dont risk spreading that to other people. Reporter the diocese is also asking catholic churches to stop offering communion by mouth. I am really glad to see theyre taking the additional two steps. We dont think about the dangers that are inherent. Reporter parishes had already stopped offering a communal chalice of wine and asked people not to shake hands or hug to protect against the spread of viruses. Businesses are also making changes. At barre 3 exercise studio in willow glen, this week clients were asked to wash their hands before class. As an added precaution, employees took each pamp pants temperature. Its easy to implement, asking clients to say theyre okay getting their temperatures scanned. And it gives clients and staff peace of mind. Reporter client megan chavez supports the extra precaution. I think were in all these group, exercise classes, there are so many germs and its hot in the room. Its an easy way for germs to spread. Reporter so far no one tested has had a fever, but if they did, they would be encouraged to skip the class at no cost. Employees also take their temperature each day. The diocese of san jose has even formed a special Coronavirus Committee to look at some of these precautions. And the archdiocese of San Francisco is also implementing similar changes. In campbell, marianne favro, nbc bay area news. Thanks, marianne. Well, even james bond isnt immune from the coronavirus. Apple and samsung advises against using cleaning products. They can damage the fingerprint resistant coding on the screens. If youre worried about that buy a cheap Screen Protector and use clorox or lysol wipes. Were updating our website 24 7. We have dedicated a whole section to the coronavirus. Point your phones camera to the qr code on the bottom lefthand side of the screen. That will take you to this special section. Lets talk decision 2020. With a new endorsement today from mike bloomberg, joe biden has seized control of the Democratic Partys moderate lane. And the lead in the delegate race as well. On super tuesday, biden picked up 10 projected wins from new england to the midwest, and a clean sweep of the southern states. He also surged to a surprise victory in texas. Joe is running a campaign which is obviously heavily supported by the corporate establishment. By the establishment of all those hardworking people, those african americans. The biden boost continued with a new endorsement from bloomberg, who pledged his considerable resources after ending his short, Expensive Campaign today. Joining us now is our political analyst Larry Gerston. Youre with us. Super tuesday. Youre back today. A big night for joe biden. How do you account for this turnaround for him . A couple of things. Remember, he had a great week for the debate on the tuesday night before South Carolina and South Carolina, thats one thing. Second thing, the endorsements. Youve mentioned some of them tonight. Of course klobuchar, orourke, all those folks, along with bloomberg. And so thats a big part of it. And then i think the last thing we have to realize is that the boom, the expansion of the electorate that sanders kept talking about, bringing all these young people, bringing in minorities. It didnt work. In fact, we did see an extension, but they were older people, and the older people voted decidedly for biden. As far as minorities go, we know where they stay. So sanders idea thus far has not panned out. So how do we how do we make that understandable to california . Because sanders did get a lot of votes in california, but he was expected to sweep the state completely. Right. So all the things we talked about with biden had an impact on california. Not as much, but remember, biden was at 13 a week ago. He winds up with 21, maybe even 22, 23 before this is over. Sanders was the high 30s. He winds up with maybe 30 . All of these things took effect. Not so much to the extent, but that was enough that will be enough, i should say, to considerably diminish the number of delegates that sanders walks away with. When all is said and done, probably these two will be pretty close to even with next tuesdays primaries coming up. But the fact that biden has come along with this surge at this time makes him at least right now the favorite. And could change the landscape Going Forward as well dramatically. Absolutely. Warren right now has to make this big decision, as you know. What do i do . Do i follow my heart and go with somebody i really like . Thats joe biden, or do i follow my politics and go with somebody i really dont like but who sees things the way i do, and that of course is Bernie Sanders. Thats the big problem. If she goes with sanders, that keeps him very competitive with biden. If she joins the group and also comes with biden, wow. The uphill battle that biden had becomes the uphill battle for sanders. Her camp definitely assessing that right now. Lets talk about the local tax issues. Education, transportation, many of them defeated last night. What happened . Around here in the bay area, we usually see a good deal of support for these types of things. Even 2 3 parcel taxes and things like that. What happened this time is two things. One, people said you know what . We have voted a lot of money in the last decade for all kinds of projects from transportation to education, infrastructure, you name it. Maybe its time that we take a step back and see whats going on. Tax fatigue. Yeah. And then there is another fact that people dont quite get yet but i think they will. We may be on the cutting edge of people saying you know what . This economy is beginning to look a little shaky, a little shaky. You put that together with what you saw the stock market and the coronavirus. People may be saying do i really want to add to this burden right now . Or do i want to take this step back . And to that extent, we may see a good deal of foresightedness in the bay area. Lets do the march toward november and what has to happen for both biden and sanders as they head toward november. 1991, thats the number that people are beginning to memorize practically. Thats how much delegates you need. For sanders, its very critical. He has to get to 1991. If there are some other delegates that are acquired not by sanders, not by biden that cloud it and leave them stuck at the first ballot, then the superdelegates come in. The super delegates are about 700 plus, and most of them, you talk about the moderate lane, most of them are in the moderate lane. For sanders, that means trouble. Sanders has to win the first ballot. Biden can forgo it. But he wants to win the first ballot. Now with bloomberg out it should be clean erase. We know you will be here the entire journey. Thanks, larry. A lot of races, and we have a full elections result page. Go to nbcbayarea. Com. Thats where were updating numbers as the votes are being counted. Well, up next, it doesnt pay to live in the bay. The new numbers showing just how expensive rents are in the three biggest cities. A Progress Report today for San Franciscos police department. Is that how that works . It doesnt look like it. The Severe Weather is just shifting off towards the south. Its moving away. I did look up the wind speeds. 136 to 200mileperhour winds. Wow, ef3 to ef4 damage likely there. They do average tornadoes, 15 to 30 per year. Its not uncommon. They get it. Of course, its the strength of the tornadoes that has been so devastating. Back here across the bay area, well we have our clear weather that has continued. And that really is how the atmosphere works. One zone is getting the dry weather with a ridge of High Pressure. Then on the other side of the ridge of High Pressure, you get troughing happening at the exact opposite. And when you see the storm track taking a big dip, that is where you can get some Severe Weather occurring. I do have some rainfall chances in the forecast, but nothing close to that. I think what we got to be ready for as we head through the next two days really is the dramatic drop in temperatures. High pressure is going to move off towards the east. Take some of that heat with us. And the new thing for tomorrow morning is a little bit of fog returning. Not super thick, but anywhere near the peninsula, San Francisco or the north bay should watch out for some patchy fog, and also low clouds. Temperatures in the 40s here over the south bay peninsula and the trivalleys. Down to a chilly 47 in the east bay. San francisco 51 and the north bay at 45. So tomorrow we have more sunshine. Numbers begin to drop off, about 3 to 5 degrees as some of that heat starts to move to the south and the east. Thats going to get us out of the 80s and back down to 73 in los gatos. 47 in downtown san jose. Also, no 80s for the east bay. Vallejo 68. So beginning to feel a little chill there. Also oakland at 66. And livermore 73. Peninsula should get that ocean breeze starting to kick back in. That will drop us down to 66 in san mateo. 69 in redwood city, and San Francisco also back to the 50s and 60s. North bay no more 80s as well. 69 in sonoma and 72 in novato. So were already starting to see things slip tomorrow on the temperatures, and then its going to get a lot colder as he we hit thursday night and friday. We have a storm system lining up. The heaviest rainfall is moving well away from us, but this will bring clouds back friday. Spotty drizzle near the coastline. And once we hit saturday, just a slight chance here of spotty showers 4 00 a. M. To about 10 30 in the morning. So its going to be that scattered chance here for us. And its only looking like trace amounts to about a tenth of an inch. And then we have 35 to 50 chances of showers from sunday right through next wednesday. Colder 50s moving into San Francisco for the weekend. Look at this. Down to 61 inland valleys on friday. That stays for the weekend. Also these chances of showers 35 to about 50 . Now i want to raise these, but i just cant right now based on whats happening. We have a storm system next week thats developing. Its stalling out. So its making it really hard for us to get an exact read on the totals and the intensity of this. As ive been saying, its like a car that has come to a fork in the road, and it still hasnt decided which way to go yet. As we learn more on this, we will give it to you. I know everybody is so anxious for some rainfall out there. So hopefully well have some good news to share on that in the coming days. Okay, thanks, jeff.
