Bribes. The climb itself was a felony. He was suspended for the nfl for one year and put on probation and serve nod jail time. In 2000, he surrendered the team to his sister. To date president formally pardoned them in front of 49ers legends. Today the president cleared that mistake. What does this mean for him . He is no longer a convicted felon. He is able to own a gun, for example, but he is already in the hall of fame. Former niners coo told me over the phone that the pardon might clear the way for him to own another team in any sport. Those that run leagues are always looking for the cleanest background and this will be the last sort of negative mark that he has. Long time fans at levi today welcome the news. Been a 49er fan for years. And now hes not a convicted felon. Yeah, no. Thats good. You know, im glad. I think thats thats great. And right now, they spend time in montana and in tampa bay. Andy told me this is more of a personal cleansing for him. We reached out to the nfl for reaction and have not heard back. Were live outside levi stadium, nbc bay area news. Okay, damon. Thank you so much. You spent a lot of time with eddie also in montana and the bay area as well. You have known him for decades. How political is this move . I think all president ial pardons have a degree of politics in them. Damion mentioned hes from ohio, he lives in florida and montana. Those are three big states for President Trump. So there is certainly that part of it. We spent time with him at the ranch in montana about 18 months ago. And he is not shy about his conservative viewpoints. He and President Trump, they have known each other since the 1980s when trump owned a Pro Football Team and wanted to mold the team. He also agrees with the president when it comes to Colin Kaepernicks issue of kneeling for the national anthem. I know everybodys got a right to do what they what god given right in this country. If im paying them, then theyre going to do things the way i want them done. I feel there is a chance he would come back as a partial owner of the 49ers. There was a lot of bad blood. He was convicted in the river bode gambling screen. He gave up ownership to the sister of the 49ers. And now she has essentially let her son run the team. So that is eddie bs nephew. However, i think there is a lot of bad blood family wise. I dont think hell come into the family again. However this could open up him owning another sports franchise for baseball, basketball, or hockey. A lot of layers to it. For sure. Thank you for that insight. In other news, after two weeks in quarantine, Travis Air Force base, they are on their way home. 180 people left fairfield today heading back to their hometown. To date chp arrested one of the men in the Central Valley. Officers say he admitted to his role in the robbery. He cut his hair and planning to leave the state. The other man, hes still on the run. This could have been a lot worse, blinded by the light. A man in the north bay pointed a laser at a pilot flying a chp plane last night. Can you see that laser below. The pilot was able to keep control of the plane and help track down the man with the laser. Nbc bay area joins us now from the Napa County Airport with the details. Melissa . Did you ever stair into a bright flashlight, you know how disorienting that can be. The pilot for chp says it was somewhat like that, a lot more painful because the man with that blue laser kept striking the plane again and again. Im still having residual effects with my left eye. I can feel that something has happened. Officer has been flying for the california Highway Patrol for last 12 years. A little before 11 00 last night on the way back to the airport, somewhere a blinding blue light flashed his plane and briefly blinded the veteran pilot. This is my first encount we are the blue spectrum laser. The worst kind you can get involved with. The plane continued to get pelted. The plane was on autopilot at the time giving him time to put on his protective laser shield goggles. We were able to pin point the location of the man shooting the laser because he kept repeatedly assaulting us with the laser. This is that blue laser and the man flashing it was this man, christopher larsson, watch as the planes camera quickly finds a suspects house within minutes, deputies make an arrest. I was happy to, you know, mostly not only for myself but for any other aircraft to happen to be wandering through that airspace. Aiming a laser at an aircraft is a federal and a state crime. Day four of the search for a missing couple turned up no clues. 40 people went door to door and off into the woods with dogs and horses looking for carol caparski and ian irwin. The couples were vacationing in the area. They left the rented cabin friday leaving behind phones, wallets, hiking gear, they havent been seen since. Their son spoke to volunteers today. They wouldnt leave all their stuff, leave their car and just vanish. So, yes, i think its very strange. We have not switched our efforts from a search and rescue to a recovery. People who live in the neighborhood are not thrilled about the idea either. They add the San FranciscoTransportation Agency to look into charging for meter parking on sunday. A plan some churches have opposed in the past. The goal is to work with our religious leaders and our churches throughout San Francisco to include them in this process. So there is nothing that is a done deal. The mayor also wants the city to examine whether congestion pricing, charging tolls to drive on the citys busiest streets during peak times, could help ease gridlock. But christian mcgee, manager at the salon says both plans the hurt small businesses. No, i dont think that it would actually fix the problem. Our Investigative Reporter is here with a couple of canceled trips and a word of caution about travel insurance. Chris . Yeah. Weve been handling lots of calls and emails from people, specifically well talk about real quick here this couple who all changed their plans to avoid coronavirus. They enlisted our help in getting money back. We were successful to the tune of almost 10,000. But in some other cases, airlines, cruise lines, hotels, and even travel Insurance Companies are not budging. Reporter vietnam, thats where this family is supposed to be right now. The outbreak reporter but when the coronavirus exploded. The corona spread to 26 countries. They decided staying home in california was safer. We dont want to get the disease. He said he was making a voluntary change and charged him a 200 penalty per ticket. 600 in total. The website said it is only offering refunds to mainland china. I asked if he wished he bought travel insurance. Absolutely. I dont want to lose money. A lot of travel agents and airlines hype up trip protection. A cancel at any time policy was 563. I think you really have to carefully consider whether the premiums youre going to pay for that type of coverage are worth their cost. Consumers checkbook is urging regulators to investigate whether Insurance Companies are overselling the benefits of travel coverage. Dont wait for that to happen. Protect yourself now. Read the policy before you buy it. Ask the questions. And make them put a licensed Insurance Agent on the phone, not a sales person, a licensed insurance act to give you answers. Thats your tip. When she opened the door, officers say he grabbed her and tried to force her to drive him somewhere. She got away, ran to a neighbors house. Police found them a few hours later sitting on a carport throwing rocks at a window. The hiking trails are still closed and no sign of that mountain lion. Fish and wildlife are trying to track down the mountain lion. This is in the hills. It tacked a 6yearold girl on sunday. Yesterday if you see there, trail cameras caught a glimpse of the big cat that they believe is behind the attack. Since then though, no sightings. The park remains closed while wardens use special dogs to track down the puma. No word yet on when the preserve will reopen. A south bay city has a new plan to keep the stray cat population from growing too fast. Its going to trap them and fix them. Humane society says its been getting complaints about the cats. So it now has dozens of box like traps they will use to catch stray cats so they can be spade or neutered. The cats cant be adopted. Theyll be returned to the streets. The Humane Society says if you see one in your neighborhood, contact them and theyll take it from there. Lets bring in our chief mooit meteorologist talking about that i like yesterday we were already talking about the weekend. But now were getting there. We can talk about the weekend. Im your inside source on. That yes. As you mentioned, we do want to focus in on what is happening todayen that is the drought that is starting to spread. Well have the latest on this. And not only this weekend but how about looking ahead to next month . Maybe some rain. Yeah, well have that long range outlook. What should downtown liver more look like snt decision that people of that city will soon make that will shape the future. Growing up in a family that struggled economically powerfully influenced my values. Bernie sanders hes fighting to raise wages. And guarantee health care for all. Now, our country is at a turning point. Hard working people, betrayed by trump, struggling to survive. In this moment, we need a fighter. Bernie sanders. We know hell fight for us as president because he always has. Im Bernie Sanders and i approve this message. Thnchts is the critical choice thats voters will make in decades. It will determine the future of the development of livermores downtown area. Here is our bay area reporter. The long time resident of livermore, i cant recall an issue that generated such strong opinions among voters. Especially on social media. A measure allows the city to build a 130 room hotel right here next door to the bank and close to the heart of downtown. Effectively endorses the city of improved development of the large plot of land across the street that will include the soon to be completed stockmans park. This will be a big green, shaped like a horseshoe. A science center, black box sheeter and Affordable Housing which backers argue will help livermore retain talent. Maybe its the great chef we would love to have at our restaurant. They cant afford to live here. So theyre leaving. So were constantly hurting for new and energized staffing to be a part of our community. Those against measure p are in favor of stockmans park, a science center, larger theater and less housing. But want the hotel over here, further west where there is space for 160 rooms and a full service restaurant. With a view of a new central park which they argue provides more green space than the citys plan. Now here we are with this big large space and, you know, they want to do something kind of average when it could be really special and it could make livermore stand out in the east bay. To think that other plan has a better plan is very misleading. There is no plan. There is no hotel. If there were, a really professional ethical developer of the hotel would be talking to all of us. There is a hotelier who weve been speaking with due to the involvement currently of procidio, the developer that got the agreement with the city. This other developer, you know, hospice stay kind of confidential for ethical reasons. This issue goes before voters again in november. Opponents of measure p gathered enough signatures for about initiative to reject the citys current plan for the downtown. The city council already approved a plan for development of this area. Why go against that . You know, a number of us were involved in the outreach process that the city conducted. When they completed their plan, they didnt have enough parking in the area where it is most needed. It ignored the findings of most of the Community Work shop participants. I vote no is basically saying you dont want anything. I mean we need to just be honest about that. Because it will stop the progress of the citys approved plan and delay all of this for years to come. In downtown livermore, nbc bay area news. The website is a great resource for election nfc. We posted a voter guide highlighting issues in every county. Im a big fan of livermore. Great downtown. Its going to be a big deal. A whole wine country. Beer thing. Restaurants. Its just fun. 100 degree days and white wine. Its good. Take us there right now. I know. Our forecast luckily does not have any 100s right now. That is the good news. It will be unusually warm and also dry tomorrow as we have been talking about. And that leaves me to my top graphic right now. And that is the latest on the drought. I want to make sure youre up to date on this and you can see we do have that drought spreading at least abnormally dry conditions over the east bay, south bay and peninsula with drought moderate drought now returning to fresno and by selia. The drought is base ond two primary factors. First is rainfall. We were 5 to 8 1 2 inches below normal. So we have to get rainfall in here. Coming in two minutes and ten seconds, twil a look at my long range forecast. And what im seeing out into march. Well get you ready to go for. That i want to bring us right now into tomorrow morning. It will be cold mostly clear skies. We have been used to this lately. 39 in the trivalley, 42 in the pen ins l. A. No big changes as you head out doort for east bay with blue skies. Sunny skies in San Francisco. And the north bay with that number one chill at 38 degrees. Temperatures tomorrow drop off a couple of degrees but it is very enjoyable. 71 in gillroy. 68 here and 67. Primarily out of 70s except for danville. A little heat likes to get trapped between the east bay mountains and mt. Diablo. Palo alto, 68 degrees. Sunshine continues up into the marina and San Francisco. 57 and right here through wine country, 66 through santa rosa. Into the valley, 64 degrees. So tomorrow, enjoy. You do have some changes coming our way. Unfortunately, our possibility of getting rainfall this week just continues to lower right now. With how were seeing things develop. We have a system about thursday and friday. But this thing is moving to the south and then eventually into southern california. Its going to be moving everywhere but into the bay area. I only see a spotty chance of a shower moving in. So heres what ive done on that extended forecast. We get high clouds moving in thursday. Spotty chance of a shower friday. Nice weekend coming in for San Francisco. And as we head to the next several days, 60s. Inland valleys also. High clouds on thursday. Spotty shower on friday. Look at that weekend 70 on saturday. Also 70 on sunday. And no big storm the next seven days. So that is the problem. I want to make sure tonight you are just in the know as much in the know as i am with that long range forecast.
