The bay bridge toll plaza is a little bit slick on the approach but no problems, standard friday build where its lightening a little bit already on the left approach. Getting away from the bridge, east 80 at powell we have a crash on the shoulder but overall Contra Costa County looking great, a little slowing for highway 4 and thats about it for the morning commute. All lanes of southbound 680 are open again after a deadly Early Morning crash near the walnut creek Pleasant Hill border when a car slammed into a dump truck at about 2 00 this morning. We heard from drivers who say there was a lot of roadway going along that stretch overnight and there were lane closures already in effect. We dont know if the truck involved in that crash was part of an overnight work. For a time four south bay lanes were closed at that boulevard. 6 02. Now to a live look at capitol hill this morning, the number of u. S. House of representatives supporting the impeachment inquiry in to President Trump is growing. More details are also emerging about the whistleblower complaint against the president. President trump is set to be seething about the prospect of facing impeachment. Today in the bays Chris Pallone is live in washington this morning with a lot more for us. Chris . Yes, laura, with now 225 representatives, a clear majority by nbcs count, favoring some sort of impeachment inquiry into the president , the president has gone on the attack, attacking democrats, journalists, even the whistleblower as he feels more pressure as this inquiry ramps up. President trump speaking with families in new york talked about white house officials mentioned in the whistleblower report and alluded to execution in this Los Angeles Times audio. I want to know whos the person who gave the whistleblower, whos the person who gave the whistleblower the information . Because thats close to a spy. You know what we used to do in the old days when we were smart, right . The spies and treason, we used to handle it a little differently than we do now. Reporter republicans defending the president are using an admission in the whistleblowers complaint to attack its credibility. Its clear to me its a narrative being created from secondhand sources and what i want to know is, who told the whistleblower about the phone call. Reporter the complaint made public thursday accuses the president of abusing his power by asking the leader of ukraine to investigate trumps political rival joe biden, and trying to cover it up by locking down access to the calls details in a system reserved for the nations most sensitive secrets. Im concerned about some of the president s comments about the whistleblower. They focus as far as the public is concerned on the fact that the president of the United States used taxpayer dollars to shake down the leader of another country for his own political gain. Democrats believe testimony from the director of National Intelligence thursday strengthened their case. I think the whistleblower did the right thing. Reporter attorneys for the whistleblower say they want to speak to congress directly, but theres no agreement yet. A very narrowly focused inquiry into the president and as such, they believe they can wrap it up in a matter of weeks. Laura . Well continue to follow. Chris pallone live from washington, thank you. Also happening today President Trumps administration will make a case in court to end a longstanding debate about detention conditions for immigrant children. The issue of how long the kids can be held will also be discussed during the hearing in los angeles. If approved by a judge, a proposed new rule would allow the government to indefinitely detain unaccompanied migrant children. This comes one week after millions of protesters walked out of schools around the world and right here at home to make their voices ard, today in the bays Sharon Katsuda is live in san ramon. Reporter marcus, were standing across the street from the chevron entrance and i just got off the phone with the organizer, expecting about 400 protesters here including 200 teenagers, being planneded by youth versus apocalypse, demand that chevron stop using fossil fuels. This comes after worldwide Climate Change protests happened last week and thousands of people took part in the bay area. I asked the organizer about children missing school. He says kids are sending a message here that education is important, teaching everyone about Climate Change. Back here live we have a call in to chevron so were hoping to hear back from chevron regarding the protest. Reporting live in san ramon, im Sharon Katsuda, today in the bay. Many are calling day major breakthrough at san joses presentation high school. This is now launching a full investigation into allegations of past sexual abuse at the all girl school. The accusations go back years and nbc bay area Investigative Unit first broke that story two years ago. The new president for the school took over this summer. She says the time is right for an external investigation. One former student who says that the school ignored her complaints for years is happy about the latest development. Its something that i and thousands of Community Members have been asking for almost two years now. More than a dozen former students have accused the school of dismissing their complaints about sexual contact by faculty and staff. Allegations range from nearly three decades ago to as recently as 2017. The school also issued its first ever apology to the victims. 6 07. Today marks the return of an annual tradition. 15 years old, the million fathers march, organizers say schools in at least 81 u. S. Cities will celebrate, that includes pittsburgs Martin Luther king, jr. , high school. This morning, fathers and father figures of all kinds will help walk and welcome children to campus. That event also includes a march around campus and a motivational speaker, talking about the importance of male role models. 6 08 right now. A contra costa nonprofit is stepping up to assist antioch schools with its free lunch program. The group white pony express will donate hundreds of pounds of food every week to food pantries at two antioch schools. The group will also get help for the food pantries to try to get them off the ground. If you love legos, look no further than the bay area. The first Legoland Discovery Center in the state is opening at the great mall in milpitas. Kids from Stratford School helped break ground. The mini construction site set up with tons of legos. When it finishes in the spring, the Discovery Center will span 31,000 square feet, there will be a lego pool, classes on master building, and a mini land featuring models of bay area landmarks. Im hearing west 92 past the toll plaza, were seeing that here. On our Speed Sensors we are seeing a little slowing at the toll plaza of course and well see the sensors change along that flat section that may be factor as folks travel. They may choose to go g to the dumbarton bridge farther south. Well watch to see how that shakes out. This morning weve gotten reports on durable goods, personal income and Consumer Sentiment and markets are higher following that news. Doordash says it had a data breach affecting nearly 5 million customers, restaurants and delivery workers. The food delivery app says names, email addresses, order histories, phone numbers and stored passwords could all have been accessed by hackers, some Financial Information was also exposed such as last four digits of payment cards but not the full number or security codes. Doordash says the breach occurred in may but it didnt discover it until earlier this month. It primarily targeted people who signed up on or before april 5th of last year. Tesla rolling out its Biggest Software update ever, which includes the new tesla theater function. This will let you connect to your netflix, youtube and hulu accounts to watch videos, shows and movies, but only while the car is parked. Owners could also watch tutorial videos to learn more about their cars. So as we head in towards sunday we have this cold front dropping down, rain chances to the north bay and sonoma counties, sierra snow there is a lake wind advisory in effect if you plan on traveling up to lake tahoe. Expect gusty conditions, 30 to 40mileperhour winds and also its going to be rainy and the rain will turn to snow and were talking about elevations above 5,000 feet, good accumulation through there. By the start of monday it will be cool but it will get some slight warming by the middle of the week over the next seven days. Here is what youre looking at. 65 for San Francisco, for your saturday, even cooler on sunday. Remember that cold front is dropping down and will stay in the low 60s and by tuesday and wednesday, well tart to warm back up into the 70s for San Francisco but have no fear, were not expecting 90s for inland areas. Well be a little bit more seasonable. Showers to the north on sunday, sierra snow expected and on monday back in the 70s, well warm up tuesday into wednesday, get a little breezier, upper 70s. A couple low 80s toward thursday but all in all, a good stretch of weather ahead. Mike . Vianey looking over here unfortunately we have a lot of slowing on the san mateo bridge, westbound continues to get worse and worse, as you travel across the flat section. The only thing chp tells me theres a hazard in the road. The string of tail lights brakes westbound. That is an issue, if you can easily choose the dumbarton bridge just to the south that will be a lot better. Dont ow how many lanes or if lanes are blocked at all but we see that big jam along the flat section headed west over toward the foster city side. That may mean more traffic for the nimitz headed south. We see 880 slow. 880 is slow toward a street where a crash should be on the shoulder but from the speeds there it looks like there is traffic jamming up just past a street. Toward the south bay, peninsula, no problems and no surprises for this friday. Contra costa county shows an easier light drive as well but a new crash around the maze west 580 approaching the berkeley curve right about here reports of a crash you see that mist on the lens, may be slick on the road ways. The statement comes two hours after a ship tracking website showed the tanker began transmitting its location for the first time in weeks. Iran seized the tanker in july. Wind speeds at about 13 Miles Per Hour. Were still seeing a good flow in terms of the wind, 22mileperhour gusts at times, and in through the afternoon, look at your temperature trend for palo alto, comfortable 70s throughout the bay area. What happened was in the last five minutes, we saw traffic start to move better, whatever was in the lanes cleared from west 92 but i think i saw the results of a fender bender and now look at that, chp doing a traffic break of some sort to slow folks to get over to the right shoulder. Thats on west 92, the san mateo bridge so again, try to avoid the san mateo bridge if you are able to choose between that and the dumbarton bridge, choose 84 in the morning right now. What do you know, bob . Reporter this happened at this home behind me, you can see its dimly lit but theres a home right there on san carlos avenue, not far from where shoreline and middlefield intersect. Theres a bullet hole in the window of this garage. Were not going to show you the splatter of blood on the garage, and theres also a trail of blood droplets leading up to the gate here at the house. You see in this video we know that one person was transported to the hospital. Their condition unknown but based on what were seeing here they are hurt, we dont know if its a lifethreatening injury or not. We reached out to the Mountain Police Department Public information officer. They told us to be patient as they are gathering more information. This happened at 9 45 last night and an officer on the scene told one of our photographers there is no threat to the public and they are not looking for a suspect. We have some breaking news out of oregons portland airport, where an Airport Police officer has shot and injured someone. We have a live look at some of the activity going on, where that shooting happened. You can see heavy Police Presence there. This is in the baggage claim area, looks like right outside of it. Police say the person who was shot will survive. We dont know yet know why that officer fired, but were in the newsroom gathering more information for you right now. With the gilroy mass shooting still fresh on the minds of people around the bay area, there will be a larger security presence at a popular annual festival this weekend, not too far from gilroy. But with extra security, which wasnt easy to get. Today in the bays kris sanchez live for us in san martin to tell us why. Kris, why was it so hard for them to get extra security there . Reporter thats a good question the organizers certainly wanted to make the public feel a little bit more comfortable about being in a big public setting, but when they went to the sheriffs department, they got a little bit pushback. Were here at yasugi farms in san martin. If you live in the south bay its pretty big south bay tradition. With the garlic festival shooting so fresh in peoples memories, the organizers said they really thought people would feel unnerved being out here without a uniformed Law Enforcement presence, so they asked the sheriff for uniformed patrols at the pumpkin patch, the farm was willing to pay for but the best they got there would be increased car patrols in the area, which was not enough for visitors. That would be a concern. We want to feel safe. I dont like to go out anymore because i feel unsafe. Now according to our sources, the sheriff does not allow uniformed officers to go on patrol when they are off duty. One day after nbc bay area broke the story there was a turnaround. The organizer tells ulsz ts the sheriff will let Police Officers patrol the area, this from the Brentwood Police chief. While we may not be able to predict or stop someone from attempting to cause harm to visitors and members of our community at a public event, i am committed to providing my officers with the tools they need to better respond should that occur. So the new policy in brentwood to send officers out when they Patrol Community events like this one, with rifles and also with mobile vehicle barriers to set those up if there becomes a Public Safety situation. Despite falling temperatures and decreasing winds, the fire threat is still very real this morning in the bay area, take a look a reminder in Contra Costa County after a brush fire broke out in martinez. Flames spread 680 highway 4 near martinez. Two acres were burned. High winds and low humidity levels did not help those matters. 6 35, new this morning Alameda County in san jose can declare emergencies to build homeless shelters and housing, a tool available in San Francisco, oakland, berkeley and santa clara. The governor expanded that law last week. One of 13 new bills he signed into law to fast track construction of homeless shelters. One allows l. A. To bypass certain restrictions to Start Building Supportive Housing immediately. President trump criticized california leaders over the homeless crisis before his last visit to the bay area, which was just last week. Happening later this morning, parents in oakland plan to protest outside school headquarters, this is over a decision to close two schools. This is video from earlier this week, given to us by a group called save oakland schools. It shows angry parents shutting down a school board meeting. Theyre upset about the decision made earlier this month to fold four struggling schools into two. They also fear this is just a prelude to even more closures. The announced closures are due to take effect next year. 6 36. Friday mignight lights will go k in san leandro tonight. A scheduled Football Game between San Leandro High School and Mcclymonds High School is canceled. Leaders decided to postpone the game because of safety reasons. Police say theyre investigating a threat which appears to be related to some conflict outside both school communities. Administrators met this week to try to come up with alternative plans. The decision is being met with mixed reaction from parents. I think its a tragedy, let the kids play. All the peripheral stuff handle that on your time. Dont affect the kids ability to play. If there is a safety issue, then maybe they need to kind of see whats happening there. San leandro and Oakland Police departments are investigating the threats and will update the School District with any new information. Tonights game would have been a preseason matchup, so if it can be rescheduled, it wont be played for several weeks, when both schools seasore done. Folks looking out to the roadways where we have your typical friday lighter volume. Over here san jose a little slowing north 101 at tully. The crash cleared to the shoulder, thats it for Silicon Valley. In the trivalley no problems and the crash south 880 that did clear at a street out of Castro Valley, more slowing for 238 as well. The arrow shows you west 92, the san mateo bridge, it looks like whatever was going on with the backandforth, chp doing a traffic slowing westbound, i think they had to clear a second of two incidents there, and traffic once again moving more smoothly over that highrise. Maybe some mist on the roads, too, so just be careful. Yes. All of a sudden the weather changes. I know, but we like it. Yes, i was over the 90s a lo long time ago, not the era but the temperatures. Its cool but comfortable so not cold yet unless youre like me in the 60s automatically means oh my gosh, winter is coming for you. Coast breezy 64 degrees on saturday. Bay 68 degrees. Inland areas 76. Now for the most part, our cooling trend is already under way, but as we head in towards saturday the temperatures are going to be a little bit below seasonable and then its going to get colder and cooler into sunday, so were going to be looking out for sunday. The reason for that is theres a cold front just off to our north, thats also going to bring the possibility of seeing some rain for far sonoma and far napa county. So overall, the sierra is really going to be dealing with the majority of the cold front but lets look at your temperatures because its expected to be our coldest day in terms of the weekend. 73 degrees for inland areas. 66 for the bay and the coast 63. Certainly not a good weekend for the beach. I hope you took advantage of that when we had hot temperatures last weekend. It will be a good weekend to head up to lake tahoe if you want a sneak peek of what the winter holds. Look at this, by saturday early tomorrow, the winds are already gusting right now, but were going to get a combination of gusty winds, 30 to 45 plusmileperhour winds and the rain will start out around your lunch hour so if you kind of want to avoid the rain, i would say leave early, and then as that rain kind of really combines with our cold air, guess whats going to happen, snow in the sierra. Lets look at the next three days. Well start out with rain on saturday and then its going to transition to snow by midafternoon by saturday, elevations at about 5,000 feet will getting a good dusting of snow. We could see snowflakes at the lower elevations, which means you might see some snow hit the ground. By sunday, 36 degrees is the predicted high. You will certainly need to be prepared for those sorts of temperatures because the overnight lows will drop down to about 17 degrees on sunday night. Look at mondays temperatures 38. If you had plans to drive back on monday, you may want to plan it around as far as the snow and the rain, so definitely download nbc bay area, it will give you a closer look at whats going on not just out on lake tahoe but throughout.
