Congress is finally in a mood to do something on this issue, i hope. The president also stressed he supports armed teachers with concealed weapons who are highly trained. Hoda . All right, Kristen Welker at the white house. Thank you. Also this morning, the tributes are pouring in and memorial plans are being made now for the reverend billy graham, the iconist evangelist to known as americas pastor. He died wednesday at the age of 99. Morgan radford is inside grahams boyhood home, his library in charlotte, north carolina. Hi, morgan. Good morning. Reporter hi there, savannah, good morning. Inside Billy Grahams childhood home. This is where he grew up the son of a dairy farmer. Inside these walls he actually had dreams of becoming a famous baseball player before he went on to become the most famous preacher in america. This is also where his body will lie in repose beginning next week as we expect to see thousands come to pray, to lay flowers and ultimately pay their respects. But so far here in his hometown of charlotte, people have come by to say, look, when he spoke, you felt it. Another man told me yesterday that he had the power to make even a pauper feel like a president , which certainly is telling given that he prayed telling given that he prayed with and counseled every single president since harry truman. Each of those surviving former president s as well as current President Trump and Vice President mike pence have been invited to the private burial ceremony that will be held next friday. 2,300 people have been invited, and thats when hell be laid to rest beside his long time ruth, who died back in 2007. An 11yearold girl slips and slides on an icy driveway in Oklahoma City proving balance on the ice isnt just for olympians. Today, thursday, february 22nd, 2018. That is adorable. Lets get back to the excitement here at the Winter Olympics. We just had a dance party with lindsey vonn, it was epic. She came to pyeongchang to compete 16 years after her first Winter Olympics at salt lake and she has proved shes got it. She took bronze in the downhill and dominated at part of the combined overnight. Did not go as well in the slalom but we are so happy to see you and so proud. Thank you. You came through for the u. S. Again. Congratulations. Thank you, guys, i appreciate that. This is your fourth olympics. I was saying to hoda what im loving about this, it seems like your heart is on your sleeve for this entire thing. Every time i look up youre crying, youre laughing, youre hugging. Youve got all the feels. I do. I couldnt even cry today because i was just tapped out. Yesterday i cried so much. I thought i was fine after the race and then i got up on the podium and just was i lost it. But it was so amazing. I knew that was probably my last time standing on the olympic podium. My heart hurt, it was just so amazing. Thats got to be such a tough thing. When i think of lindsey vonn, i think olympian and i think so many people do. We just had the entire Ice Hockey Team mobbing you. They were like oh, my gosh, its that lindsey vonn. That is amazing. But that is so much a part of you. I cant picture you not doing it four years from now. Thats the hard thing. Im trying to accept it. I mean who knows, maybe my some miracle my knee will feel better. You always leave a little wiggle room. And you know my theory, never bet against lindsey. I mean who knows what will happen in four years, its a long time from now. But im going to soak it in as if it were my last. Maybe its not. Maybe it will be, but ive given it my best shot and ive enjoyed it thoroughly. This has definitely been the most amazing experience for me in all of my olympic experiences because of how amazing the team has been. Not just alpine but as a whole. I feel so connected to everyone. I feel so much a part of it and a part of the olympic spirit. Thats why the olympics are so great. It warms your heart and makes you feel good inside, it makes you happy. Thats why im going to miss it. Well, you tore it up today on the downhill. I was watching. You were like vintage lindsey. And then yesterday did you like burn your skis . What happened there . Oh, yeah. Thats crazy. It happened to a couple girls. Yeah. Theres kind of an icy patch on the second gate and it happens sometimes, but my skis are done. You know, theyre theyre finished. Those are going in the trash can, unfortunately. I think thats why i just didnt have the speed on the bottom part of the course that i normally do. That was the section where i was gaining time on everyone in the training run, so its unfortunate, but thats a part of the sport, you know. Along with that bronze medal also came another record. You were the oldest athlete in this sport to medal. You keep breaking records even now. I mean, sure, its a record, i guess ill take it. Yeah, its kind of weird. I think for women, you know, we just dont have that longevity in ski racing because its so hard on the body and because eventually we want to start having kids and you cant compete and have kids at the same time. It just doesnt work. So i dont know, its crazy to think im the oldest alpine medalist. When you started, how old were you in salt lake . 17. 17 years old. A baby. Would you have even believed it if i had said to you then, youll still be doing this. In 2018 youre going to be in pyeongchang, south korea. No, definitely not. I would not have believed you. Its definitely been a much longer and more successful career than i ever could have hoped for so im beyond grateful for every opportunity. To be in my fourth olympics, its just its amazing. I couldnt be happier. But youre not like hanging up your skis and putting on your sweats and going on the couch because you are chasing a world cup title. You have 81 titles, 86 is the record held by a woman. A man. Oh, its held by a man. Im the best woman. Never bet against lindsey. Okay. So shes chasing the title. Theres only one guy that has more wins than i do. So i dont like the title best female or best male, i just want to be the best. Which you are. I think you are. I dont know. Its debatable, but id still you know, thats my next goal. Im going to continue to work away at that and hopefully i can get close in the next season. We love you. Lindsey, thank you so much. Love you guys. Lets go back to the dance party. Were going to send it over to mr. Roker and get a check of the weather. Im still winded from it. Lets see what we have for your weather today. And its been, boy, so warm. We had a bunch of records set yesterday from new york city, newark, concord, new hampshire, syracuse, hartford, connecticut, and more potential records again today as the jetstream stays up to the north and southeast. So look for more record highs today stretching from raleigh down to tallahassee, tampa, and back over to jackson. As we move on toward friday, were going to see this weekend temperatures still fairly warm through florida, but chilling off, cooling off just a bit as you get into the centr good morning. Im meteorologist kari hall here. A live look outside at the golden gate bridge. A chilly 47 degrees as you get ready to head out the door. Ill be tracking rain for you as we go through the day. By 12 30 we could see showers moving into the north bay and some hitormiss activity for the rest of the bay area with clouds and gusty win. We could see in some of these downpours some brief, heavy rain and some small hail watching out for that and a slight chance of thunderstorms. And thats your latest weather. Guys. Earlier we mentioned the tributes that are pouring in for iconic evangelist billy graham. Over six decades he delivered his christian message to more than 200 Million People in 185 countries, including every president since harry truman. His eldest son, the reverend franklin graham, is with us now. This is his first interview since his fathers passing. Reverend graham, as we say good morning to you, sir, we just want to send our heartfelt condolences for the loss of your father. Thank you so much. I was in dallas, texas, yesterday when i got word that my father had passed away. Of course the news came out a few minutes later that billy graham had died. I kind of chuckled because my father said years ago, he said when you hear that billy graham is dead, dont you believe it for a second. He said ill be more alive than ever before. And hes in the presence of god, so we rejoice and were thrilled that his suffering is over and hes in gods presence. Reverend graham, as you think about your father and these last 24 hours, what is your defining image . Is it as a father . Is it as a preacher . What are you reflecting on . I just first of all, he is my dad and i loved him so much, but he was a man of god. The billy graham that the world saw on television or saw on the big screen was the same billy graham that we saw at home. He wasnt two people. He spent his life telling people about heaven, how to get to heaven. He wrote books on heaven. Now hes in heaven. And he would want me to tell everybody watching that if you put your faith and trust in gods son, jesus christ, that you can be in heaven too. And so my father is there and he would wish everybody watching will confess their sins and repent and believe on the name of the lord jesus christ. That would be what he would want everyone to know this morning. Your father had Boundless Energy over the years. He traveled from continent to continent. But how were the last several years of his life . He did very well up until about his 95th birthday. Then after his 95th birthday, he had a few setbacks healthwise. So for the last five years hes been hes been at home for the most part and confined to a wheelchair and his bed. But his mind was always clear. He never got foggy, never got where he didnt understand. He just couldnt hear very well, couldnt see. But you could communicate with him. I was with him sunday. When you think about it, reverend graham, and you think about the success he had as a preacher and a deliverer of this message, what do you think it was about him and his delivery of the message that was so compelling and reached so many people . It was just god. God just for some reason touched my father and used my father my father was a very humble person. He never saw himself as a celebrity. He just always saw himself as a farm boy from mecklenburg county. But god for some reason just touched my father and blessed him. So the successes, he would want everyone to know that it was god that did it and not him. The tributes have been pouring in from celebrities to world leaders. How do you think your father would want to be remembered . He would want to be remembered as a preacher. I asked him when my mother passed away we knew what she wanted on her too mambstone so asked my father, daddy, what do you want on your tombstone . He thought about that and he said, preacher. So thats whats going to be on his tombstone, preacher. He changed a lot of lives over the decades. Were going to talk to her. She just arrived a couple of minutes ago. But first lets get right to your olympic news at 8 00, including that emotionfilled night on the ice. Team usa beating rival canada in a thrilling overtime shootout to win that. Nbcs joe fryer is here with a wrap of the days olympic action. Hey, joe. Reporter good morning, hoda. It was a huge day for team usa winning five medals in all, two of them gold, including that big win for the womens hockey team. It took three periods, plus overtime, plus a shootout, but they were finally able to avenge their biggest rivals. Moving in, she scores reporter with an epic shootout goal followed by an equally epic shootout save the United States wins gold reporter the u. S. Womens hockey team put a dramatic end to their canadian curse. This is the greatest honor in the world for our team, it really is. Its you know, we wanted to bring this back to our country. Weve played this game a thousand times in our minds over and over the last four years. We didnt care how we got it done, as long as we got these. Reporter down 21 in the third period, team usa scored a clutch goal. She scores reporter sending the game into overtime. When neither side found the net during the 20minute extra session, it all came down to a shootout. Jocelyne lamoureuxdavidson delivered the gamewinner with a move they called oops, i did it again. Ive seen it a handful of times and it usually works every time. Reporter its the teams first gold since winning in 1998, the year womens hockey made its olympic debut. It was also revenge for a heartbreaking loss to their northern neighbors in sochi. Fans traveled from the u. S. To cheer on their team in south korea. Im proud that we played well. We played hard. And we played to win. Whoo reporter back in the states, many stayed up late to watch. Many more doubles yet to come. Reporter in mens skiing halfpipe, david wise defended his 2014 olympic title with a dazzling aerial display. Down into the bottom, does he have the double cork 1260 . Yes i get to ski in front of the world. Im going to put on a show. Reporter wise edged out his highflying teammate, Alex Ferreira, who took home the silver. From style to speed, Mikaela Shiffrin was looking for her second gold of these games, this time in the super combined. Yes, she does reporter but she ended up with silver. Lindsey vonn also raced, likely her final olympic event. She had the fastest time in the downhill portion, but stumbled in the slalom. And off she goes. Reporter keeping her off the podium. She spoke earlier on today. Im going to soak it in as if it were my last. Maybe its not, maybe it will be, but ive given it my best shot and ive enjoyed it thoroughly. Reporter womens big air snowboarding, a new olympic event, came down to the last run. Final competitor for womens snowboard big air. Reporter austrias anna gasser jumping and twisting her way to a massive score. American star Jamie Anderson settled for silver adding to last weeks slopestyle gold. Puts it down clean. I got a gold. I like silver, i like it all. A little yin yang, you know. Reporter one more note about the womens hockey win, it happened 38 years to the day after the miracle on ice when the u. S. Mens team upset the soviet union in lake placid so perhaps its a lucky date for american hockey. Now lets take a look at the medal count. A big day for team usa puts them all alone in fourth place overall. There is still time to move up, but it looks like no one will catch norway at the top. Coming up today here in pyeongchang, figure skating wraps up with the ladies free skate and medals will be handed out in the womens ski cross. Savannah and hoda. All right, joe, awesome day for team usa, thank you. As he mentioned, Mikaela Shiffrin earned a silver medal for team usa in the alpine combined adding to the gold she got last week. Ive got to tell you, gold and silver look pretty good on you. Is there anyone they dont look good on . You wear it well. Thank you. How do you feel . Youve had a great olympic games. How would you size it up . Its been a whirlwind. Most of my well, three of my events were moved to different days because of the weather so sort of a mental challenge to overcome that and racing on different days than we expected. But yeah, i mean this is this is pretty insane. Pretty cool. Do you feel just light at this moment . Its over, you came, you did it. You must be just on cloud nine. Yeah, yeah. I came into the olympics a multiple medal threat and i knew that but i was also thinking on the plane ride over here, thinking i could literally walk away with nothing too. I could completely choke in every way possible. So to be here sitting with you guys right now and have two medals is really very like a relief but also just insane. In the super combined you had a lot of pressure on you for that second run. It had to be pretty perfect for you to get on the medal stand. So when you were just getting ready to go down, what was going through your mind then . Yeah, i mean actually i wish i had felt as not in the slalom as good as i felt today. My run wasnt perfect but it was definitely it was good. It was good enough to get on the podium, which is awesome. I think it was good. It was silver medal good, okay . The combined run, it was good. Im really excited. Its just so fun to see you and see you grow up. I can still remember Walking Around shopping for souvenirs at the olympics in sochi and you were just about to burst onto the scene. And here you are, now youre an olympic veteran. Yeah, thats weird. Right . Yeah, i dont feel like a veteran at all. Was it different this time, though . Did you feel like that experience in sochi helped you here . Yeah, for sure. The time that i spent i mean in sochi i always i felt like if i had because i was 0. 2 off the podium in the giant slalom and then won the slalom gold. But if i had been on the podium in the giant slalom i probably wouldnt have done as well in the slalom. Because of the hype and media, i was not prepared for it. Coming here i was like, okay, im racing in multiple events. We need to be on point with everything so i can do my best in each event. Now i can talk with you guys. You were on point. You packed 35 pairs of skis and i heard that was like a scaledback version of what you usually pack. Yeah. Why so many . Well, i use probably five pairs of skis per day for training and race days i have five or six pairs available that are all different tuning or different bindings. Do you have like these are my lucky skis or special socks that you wear . I try not to have im not super superstitious. No, i try not to do that because if i forget the socks or, you know, i wash them on accident you want to be ready. By the way, it was so fun watching you with the u. S. Hockey players. Its fun to watch all the athletes bask in each others glory so congratulations on everything. Were so proud of you. Thank you. Do you have another olympics in you . Yeah, probably. Im only 22. We hope. Thank you, hon. Thank you so much. We have a lot more to get to this morning. Back home tens of millions of americans are under a Winter Weather advisory or a flood watch. Al is here to tell us what to watch out for. It is a very changeable situation as we are even speaking to you. Weve got Winter Weather advisories for about 31 Million People and then also heavy rain is causing some flooding as well. So as we show you what weve got as far as accumulations are concerned, were talking about the upper midwest anywhere from 3 to 6 inches of snow and the ice also a big problem stretching from texas all the way up into the upper midwest and further east from indiana all the way into pennsylvania and parts of new york as well. Guys, its going to be really a changeable and dangerous situation well continue to watch it. Savannah. All right, al, thank you so much. Now to the emotional debate over guns in america. Senator marco rubio of florida was put on the defensive on wednesday by students, teachers and parents who are demanding action. At the white house, the president heard an emotional plea from School Shooting survivors. Nbcs chief White House Correspondent Hallie Jackson has more for us from washington this morning. Hi, hallie, good morning. Reporter good morning. Expect these conversations to continue today on the gun debate because the president is hosting officials on the state and local level to talk about this. As we saw again overnight, these are conversations that are intense, they are emotional, and at times very heated. Overnight after days of student protesters making their case in the gun debate, the nra making its own. This individual was nuts, and i nor the millions of people that i represent as a part of this organization that im here speaking for, none of us support people who are crazy, who are a danger to themselves, who are a danger to others getting their hands on a firearm. Reporter a spokesperson for the powerful Gun Rights Group appearing at a cnn town hall in florida. It turned tense at times. At one point republican senator marco rubio in a Heated Exchange with survivors and parents of victims. Your comments this week and those of our president have been pathetically weak. Let me explain what i said this week and ill repeat it. Im saying that the problems that were facing here today cannot be solved by gun laws alone. Senator rubio, can you tell me right now that you will not accept a single donation from the nra in the future . The answer to the question is that people buy into my agenda, and i do support the Second Amendment and also support the right of you and everyone here to be able to go to school and be safe. Reporter further north in washington, the president facing families, clearly anguished and angry. And im pissed its my daughter im not going to see again. Shes not here. King david cemetery, thats where i go to see my kid now. Reporter andrew pollacks daughter, meadow, was killed in last weeks parkland shooting. 9 11 happened once and they fixed everything. How many schools, how many children have to get shot . Reporter through their grief, determination. Sam zieff is a student at marjory Stoneman Douglas high school. Woke up to the news that my best friend was gone. And i dont understand how i can still go into a store and buy a weapon of war. Reporter it wasnt just parkland. They came from columbine, from sandy hook, determined to deliver a message to the most powerful person in america. You dont want to be me. No parent does. And you have the ability to make a difference and save lives today. Please dont waste this. Reporter the president , holding notes that read i hear you listened. Its not going to be talk like it has been in the past. Its been going on too long, too many instances. Reporter so what does happen next here . It depends on who you ask. Some folks want a pretty broad ban on semiautomatic weapons, but that doesnt seem likely. The president is already facing opposition for his suggestion that some teachers be allowed to conceal carry guns at school, but there are three pretty narrow options that could gain some traction when Congress Gets back here next week. Banning bump stocks, which lets semiautomatic weapons fire faster. Raising the age limit to buy an ar15 up to 21, and stricter federal background checks. Again, these are narrow potential options but you may see some movement on that next week. Savannah, hoda, back to you. Hallie jackson on capitol hill for us. Thanks, hallie. Coming up on this busy thursday morning from here in pyeongchang, the figure skating rivalry between two impressive russians that will be settled on ice tonight. Todays athlete to watch is sponsored by oreo. Cantmiss moments start with oreo. And this morning on todays athlete to watch, two of the worlds most electrifying figure skaters. This is going to be amazing. Both hail from russia and after unforgettable Short Programs, theyre almost certain to decide gold in ladies figure skating tonight. Its going to be epic, stephanie. Its going to be huge. Rivalries are what make sports so exciting and this is an epic one. Two russian teenagers who are widely considered the best female figure skaters on the ice today. They are on the same team. They even train together. But tonight, theyll battle each other for gold. Yevgenia medvedeva is 18 years old. Alina zagitova is 15 years old. Alina is the upstart who could take gold away. Off the ice these two russian figure skaters say its not about the competition. We are friends. We are girls, we are young girls. Yes, your friend is competing here, but you must fight. The big jumping pass, triple flip, triple toe. In the Short Program yevgenia pulled off a flawless performance with her signature combination of power and artistry. She set a record with her score. Up came alina, who has the hardest combination of the competition. So difficult going off the edge. After that triple lutz, very solid. She nailed it, breaking the record her teammate set just minutes before. Is it fair to say that right now alina is in yevgenias head . Yes, thats very fair to say. When i first saw yevgenia, i thought she doesnt miss, she doesnt make a mistake, shes perfect. What i didnt anticipate was that next was perfecter. You know . In womens figure skating, russia only has one olympic gold, won at the sochi games. They are expected to add another one here. The only question is, who will it be . One of the things that sets these young women apart from other skaters, and its something to look for tonight, they are so strong that they do some of their hardest jumps toward the end of programs. Guys, if they do that, it earns them a 10 bonus. Because youre on tired legs. So they are like if you can do that you get another 10 . Okay, thank you. Of course youll want to watch it live tonight on nbc. Still ahead, we have even more u. S. Medal winners. Theres so many to celebrate. First a check of your local news and weather. I m. The stage was amazing. My family and friends were watching. 17 people here supporting us. Wow. Weve got to come to our speed skaters. Hi, guys. A 16year drought and here you are in the team pursuit. What did it mean to be winning but to win as a team has got to feel so good. And long track speed skating is an individual sport so you dont get the opportunity to race as a team very often. So to be able to do it as a team just makes the win that much sweeter. It was a tight one. You guys watch that video . Yeah, it came down to the wire, thats for sure. Whos in front . Strategy. The Coaching Staff puts together a plan to help us execute the race to the best of our ability. Some people might have called you guys underdogs. Did you go in feeling that way . A little bit. We kind of had the underdog mentality in the fact that this was the second time we had skated together. Is that it . Ever. Yeah, because you need to practice, we would think. It was great because it was kind of low expectations too. Were just going to go out and skate the best we can. Like she said, the coaches and staff made the best strategy and it worked out. What did it feel like on that podium . That was just amazing. Its amazing. You guys made us all so proud. Thank you, guys. Congratulations. Congratulations. Were so happy. Al, lets get some awardwinning weather. I think we need to be on ice as well. Lets show you what we have, look ahead to your weekend. We start off with friday were looking at record highs continuing in the southeast, an icy mix in the northeast. A flood threat in the Lower Mississippi river valley. Saturday, strong storms in the midmississippi river valley into the ohio valley. Look for plenty of snow out west. And then sunday, sunday, we expect much milder weather in the east, still cold in the plains and the rockies. Look for the Pacific Northwest with snowy conditions. Thats whats going on around the country. Heres whats happening in your neck of the woods. Good morning, im meteorologist kari hall. We are taking a live look outside at San Francisco. Camera being shaken around by all those gusty winds and chilly temperatures. Only 47 degrees with a high of 52 degrees. 52 also in oakland. 56 in san jose. Those temperatures at about 5 to 7 degrees cooler than normal. And we will have a chance of rain as we go throughout the day, especially by early afternoon. Some spotty showers moving through all of the bay area, moving from north to south. Announcer todays medal count is sponsored by hersheys gold. Taste the gold. This is perfect. Were going to get a check of the medal count. Weve got Medal Winners right here. Im going to start counting their medals. Norway closing in on an alltime record but thanks to this ladies as well, team usa now sitting in fourth. That is pretty cool. Hoda. All right, al, thanks. Look who made her way up to our plazas for the second time during these games, our girl, Jamie Anderson. She just made history. She became the first female snowboarder to ever win two medals at a single Winter Olympics after capturing gold in slopestyle, overnight she grabbed silver in the debut of the big air competition. Look at jamie go. Welcome. Oh, my gosh. Thanks, girls. You just always seem to be having the best time. But the gold and silver got to help. That will make it even better. Definitely feels good. Yeah, tlahat was crazy today. Big air brings so much progression. When its blue skies and a perfect jump its hard to not have fun. And riding with all my friends. Thats why snowboarding is so fun. Were out there doing what we love freestyle, no set rules, you can do whatever you want and i like that. I think the sportsmanship and the way you guys love each other was so apparent when you watched that other woman get the gold and you walked right up to her, you wrapped those arms around her. Thats just the camaraderie that goes on in your sport . It is. And like genuinely im so happy for anna. She has worked so hard and actually has been progressing the sport insanely in the last few years, so to see her win today, like of course a teeny tiny part of me had wished i landed my last run, but in the big picture i was just so happy. Youve got to spread that love. You cant win it all. Youve got to balance out the gold, have a little silver. Its like the yin and the yang of the silver and the gold. Exactly. You never seem stressed. Here you are, at the absolute top of your game. Youre a competitor. But you always seem so zen. Yeah, chill. Whats your secret . I guess just a lot of practice, because sometimes im pretty anxious and stressed. But it just feels awful. Like i want to feel good, lifes too short. So i just listen to good music, i use a lot of, like, essential oils and im always drinking my tea with my organic gee in it, geed up from the feet up. Dont you hug a tree before you go on a run sometimes. Honestly i love trees, im not afraid of hugging any. But not necessarily. I just think having that state of mind and appreciation keeps the good vibes rolling. You make me happy every time i see your face. Shes doing a little dance. We love you, jamie. Thank you for coming to see us. Thanks for having me. Coming up next, one of the women behind another thrilling moment at the games. Well talk to the historymaking crosscountry skier kikkan randall. But first, this is today on nbc. Mom you called . Oh hi sweetie, i just want to show you something. Xfinity mobile find my phone. [ phone rings ] look at you. This tech stuff is easy. [ whirring sound ] you want a cookie . Its a drone i know. Find your phone easily with the xfinity voice remote. One more way comcast is working to fit into your life, not the other way around. Everyone thinks making websites is impossible. [mimicking motorcycle noises] harmonica tune plays but theyre wrong. I know. Welcome back to pyeongchang. We are joined by one of the women responsible for one of the most unforgettable moments of the Winter Olympics. Kikkan randall and her teammate, jessie diggins, won an historic gold in the Crosscountry Team sprint, the countrys first gold and firstever medal by an American Woman in that sport. Guess who is sitting next to us . Kikkan, congratulations. Congrats. Thank you. Our hearts cant take this, okay. That photo finish at the end. You were there watching your teammate cross. What was that emotional moment like . Well, i had just skied a threeminute lap as hard as i possibly could so my legs were so full of lactic acid i could barely stand. Im there next to the swedish girl and were watching our teammates come down and we were screaming. I think i got an octave higher than she did but it was so close to call that i had to look at the scoreboard and see usa number one and i ran out and tackled jessie. Jessie would be right here with you but shes got another race and has to rest up. Theres so much history, never a gold medal in crosscountry. Never. No medal since the 70s. Yeah. A silver medal back then. Is all that history weighing on you, or are you just kind of like were doing the race in front of us . I think that history has motivated us. When i was a teenager and first getting involved in crosscountry skiing, i thought it was so cool that here was a sport that no American Woman had won an olympic medal. History was waiting to be written. I felt like if i worked at it hard enough and long enough, i would do it. I didnt think it would take five olympics. Its been a long journey. When we came into the race yesterday, what worked well for us at the World Championships was to go out, execute our plan, each fill our role. We knew if we did that, we could put together a great race and it ended up being gold. Youre setting an example for so many people. In addition to being an incredible world class athlete, youre also a mom with a little boy named breck. How old . Hes going to be 2 in april. Can we show you a tiny little clip . Take a look. Good morning, mommy. I just woke up, but i want to congratulate you. You had a great race. I saw it on tv. I saw your pink hair. I knew it was you. And i yelled, go, go. You were so fast. Oh, my gosh. Are you dying to get home to that little breck. Ive been away for three weeks and its been so hard. I cant wait to see him next week. You are such an example, though. Youre doing it all. Youre really doing it all. Its been cool to show that you can be an elite athlete. You can return to competition. I feel like im stronger than ever and i like to say breck is my best accomplishment is. He is. The gold medal is good but breck is adorable and you really are inspiring so many. Thanks. Give our love to jessie too. I will, i will. Well be rooting for her on sunday. Thanks a lot. Lets go over to al. Thats right, a little olympic birthdays. All that celebrating didnt sit too well with one fan in our section. This is michael tobin. You can see hes less than amused by our enthusiasm. He tweeted this video and the caption was this. Clearly this canadian picked the wrong section to sit in. It was such a great look at his eyes. And guess what, here he is. Go usa. Oh, michael, youre right here. Oh, hey, guys.
