In that past hour we were able to get some type of information although it was limited from a sergeant with the Contra Costa Sheriffs Department who is handling this. They cannot comment as far as if the shooting happened on the freeway or if the driver that was shot eventually drove on to the freeway following the shooting. We are still waiting to get more details on that, but lets show you the video from the scene. This was roughly around 11 00 p. M. Here in richmond just on the off ramp off of 80 west if youre heading off of san pablo avenue. It drops you off in that barrett avenue area of richmond. An officer on the scene told our crews that there was a driver in that car who was shot inside of that car and apparently crashed the car just off that off ramp, but as i mentioned we dont know if the shooting originated on the freeway or if that driver drove on to the freeway after the shooting, but we know that the driver was transported to a hospital, dont know the extent or severity of the drivers injuries at this time, but as i mentioned Contra Costa Sheriffs Department is handling this investigation. You may have seen it, its been a fixture in san jose since the 1950s, but recently it has come under fire with some advocates saying columbus actions led to the genocide of native americans. New controversy at stanford this morning surrounding a plaque that will be unveiled on campus. It centers around the woman who was Sexual Assaulted by brock turner. The victim is now saying she no longer wants to be a part of this. The woman presented a quote to that plaque for that plaque thats being placed near where that assault happened. That quote was her statement during the sentencing of turner, but the university decided it wont be using that plaque, saying that it might upset other Sexual Assault victims. Brock turner served three months in jail for the assault. Judge aaron persky who presided over that case is now facing a recall election this june. Two earlier deaths happened this month and in the latest incident a 71yearold berkeley man died, the other two deaths involved men from oakland and Castro Valley. All three were over 50. One bay area snorkeling expert advises swimmers to breathe shallow when a snorkel fills with water. Instead of a big breath in you gently breathe in, you will hear the bubbles through the water, get air and pop and pop the water out of the snorkel and now you can take a regular deep breath. At least two of the bay area victims were wearing full face snorkeling masks modeled after scuba diving masks some believe those masks allow greater build up of carbon dioxide. 13yearold Ilene Beth Misheloff was never seen again. Reporter not just the city, not just the unified school district, but nine different jurisdictions have a say in this or rather have a vested interest. The area below that black line is open space that is protected but only until the year 2025. Stanford proposes 2. 3 million in academic space, this he also want to build 3,150 units of housing for students, staff and faculty as well. Although this is one permit from Santa Clara County it covers all projects that would happen between now and the year 2035. The Public Comment period is coming to an end on friday so this is really reaching a critical stage. Now, as you might in a inpalo alto unified and a lot of other folks have an opinion on how stanford should grow in this area. Tonight palo alto unified will suggest its recommendations which of one will include building an Elementary School campus right here on the stanford campus and also building more housing to mitigate the impact of having such a population boom out here over the next two decades. Palo Alto City Council also finalized their recommendations on monday. While i mentioned that there are nine jurisdictions bracing for impact here, Santa Clara County is the only one with the power to approve or deny that permit so we went straight to the source, the supervisor who represents this area. As i hear from folks what theyre saying s look, we want the university to flourish, but we also want to make sure that the traffic doesnt get worse, the housing doesnt get worse, that our schools are adequately planned for. That street has seen Police Violence in the past. Anthony nunez was shot and killed by san jose Police Officers on that same street in 2016. The officers were cleared in that shooting but the family has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the city. Happening today the woman accused in a drunk driving accident that seriously injured a chp officer is headed back to court. Investigators say tammy walker drove into the Center Divide on highway 4 earlier this month triggering a Chain Reaction crash that pinned a chp motorcycle officer under a truck. Walker is accused of driving under the influence with a suspended license. The officer broke both his legs but is now recovering. Two teenagers are in trouble this morning for hitting a Richmond Police officer with a car during a sideshow over the weekend and someone caught it on camera, but i want to warn you the video is a bit disturbing to watch. In the Instagram Video you can see the officer getting hit by a black sedan as he was trying to break up a sideshow in richmond. We have new details this morning about the life inside a Southern California home where the parents allegedly shackled and tortured their 13 kids. City leaders in san jose expected to decide whether to move a Christopher Columbus statue. Critics say columbus actions led to the genocide of native americans.
