Evening to see some of the light rain moving into northern Sonoma County and then as we go into tonight, some of the heavier downpours moving in, into some of those wild fire ravaged areas and San Francisco with lighter rain tonight and making its way into parts of the peninsula as well as the east bay and into san jose shortly before midnight, youll hear some of that rain coming down through the roof and also breezy winds. A lot coming while you will be sleeping later on overnight. We will talk more about how much rain we could see and then also whats ahead as we go into the weekend. Thats coming up a little bit later. Well, up in the north bay, many people will return to ash and cinder. The rebuilding process begins in Sonoma County following the devastating north bay wild fires. Officials will meet with residents to make sure that theyre doing it safely. Nbc bay areas pete soranos joins us live with details for later, pete. Reporter yeah, good morning marcus. And were stand in that area when the first areas where the Evacuation Orders were lifted. County officials were going to need lift residents in a couple of hours. Theres going to be two meetings to help them as far as when theyre getting reacclimated to these neighborhoods over what is left of the neighborhoods. I want to show you whats taking place behind me. The county working with some team here thats doing some tree cleanup that could be hazardous to the areas. These trees that are considered hazardous. This is debt brie. This is something that county officials are warning folks to stay away from when it comes to the removal it. I talked to a county supervisor about how dangerous it is to remove debt brie if not done properly. A lot of these homes were built in the 70s and early 80s. Very hazardous when youve got asbestos in a house that burns out. Theres toxic materials in homes too. Theres gas lines also. So we have to make sure that theyre safe. Reporter very hazardous, thats one of the many times weve heard that here when it comes to dealing with this debris removal. The federal and state levels already have a comprehensive cleanup plan in place which will only involve licensed contractors when it comes to cleaning up areas in the north bay following these wild fires. Folks will learn more about the process of course at the two meetings taking place later today. Housing options at these meetings. This was an issue before the fire where will the city of santa rosa already dealing with the housing shortage and the county supervisor i spoke to with Sonoma County say theyre working to hopefully make Vacation Rentals available. Their ultimate goal is to have the cleanup process finished by december. They want to beat the rain before it comes in. And then they want to start permitting areas to build new homes. Lets get to the details of these important meetings. Youve got one taking place in a couple of hours at 1 00 p. M. , thatll be at the sonoma Veterans Memorial building in sonoma. Then another one taking place at 6 00 p. M. , thatll be in the evening at the Santa Rosa High School south gym. Thatll be in santa rosa. Now i want to point out that people can sift through some of this material when theyre going back to their property, but its important to talk about the m95 masks that people should wear. Its important to exercise caution and safety when youre out here. Theyre going to learn more about that at those meetings either at 1 00 p. M. Or 6 00 p. M. Today. Saying that 92 while the nunn, redwood, and pocket fire are all above 73 . The death toll stands at 42 people. Well, we saw from petes report those aerial shots of the neighborhoods devastated by the wild fires. Cal fire now putting out more information, an updated map, to show the burn areas and importantly, the status of a lot of folks homes. You can look here and this is the whole map by cal fire as you zoom out though, you can see that there are areas here, sonoma, some of the areas that we talked about in the fire fight, glenn ellen over here. This is the oak ridge neighborhood, or the oakmont neighborhood where i was about a week and a half ago along the park. You see calistoga largely untouched. As you go in, you can see how many homes were destroyed in these fires. Folks are able to click on each of the individual addresses. That is their home, we will protect their privacy, but this is something that cal fire is making sure that folks have as a resource in order to get in there and check what their status of their house is. Police say she was drunk driving when she crashed along 680 in san ro moan last year killing this little boy, threeyearold elijah dunn, injuring mom and siblings. The family wanted her to face murder charges because this wasnt her first dui offense. She is married to an Alameda County sheriffs deputy and the victims family thinks that played a role in the lesser charges. In my heart, i feel like it got brushed under the rug. The fact that shes married to a police officer, i dont think swayed the d. A. s office to give her any preferential treatment because shes now looking at a very significant prison sentence. That same analysts says it would have been hard for the District Attorney to bring murder charges because the first dui case was still pending. We will continue to warm into the upper 60s today which is a little bit cooler than where weve been for the past several days, and cooler for normal for this time of year, east san jose, expect a high of 70 degrees, also 70 in pleasanton, oakland, high of 66 there and the peninsula in the upper 60s fn palo alto in San Francisco, mid50s throughout the day. Thanks to the clouds and some mid60s for santa rosa and upper 60s as well in a few spots. Weve been tracking this rain for the past several days and looking to see bring in some beneficial downpours for tonight. Its still well to the north of us, but as it moves closer later on this evening, well start to see these clouds filling in with some rain, its now just north of eureka and will be making its southward progression for tonight and most of us not seeing that rain until after sunset, but some light showers ahead of that by 8 00 and may also move into the east bay. Some of the heavier downpours expected to move in to the north bay late tonight and then into the south bay around midnight, it quickly rolls out of here, well see the rain for a couple of hours, and by the time you wake up tomorrow morning, itll be gone. And we are looking at the possibility, with some of our computer models showing heavier amounts of rain like this one showing the possibility of up to a quarter of an inch of rain in the north bay. And if youll be out there heading to the raiders game or just watching on tv, there will be that chance that there could be showers and if you are going to the game, bringing something nice and warm to wear is going to be in the upper 50s and once again, the heavier rain making it in by 10 00. But then, some pockets of the heavier rain moving again and we can tell here by the dark shades of green, even yellow there may be brief heavy rain as it initially moves in and we should start to see it moving into livermore at about 11 30 tonight, san jose will see it around midnight and then as we look at the peninsula, making its way in by late tonight. Investigators say he also targeted girls at gail ranch middle school. Well the trial for the man accused in the deadly shooting of kate steinly will officially Begin Next Week now that a jury has been seated. He faces murder charges in the shooting which happened on San Franciscos pier 14. Sparked a nationwide debate of immigration in sanctuary cities. The judge yesterday swore in 12 jurors. Opening statements are scheduled for monday. San Francisco Police bicycle offer is in Critical Condition still this morning after he was struck by a hitandrun driver. It happened a little after noon yesterday in the tenderloin on turk. Police say officers were closing in on the suspects car, believing he was armed, and they say he took off, struck the officer in the process. San franciscos City Attorney is filing a lawsuit against pge in connection with a landslide that ended with a demolition of a luxury home. You may remember this about a year ago, a home mysteriously started sliding off in the foundation on the avenue. Initially, rains were thought to trigger that landslide, but, investigation pinpointed a broken water main, the suit claims pge crews relocating the gas lines calls made to rupture. They want the utility to cover nearly 8 million in damage to six homes. They issued a statement saying right now its focussed on the north bay fires, but they are aware of the lawsuit. It turns out the family dog jumped into action to save his owners life. Firefighters say the dog woke up the homeowner and alerted him of the fire, both made it out okay, but the resident of the hospitalized with smoke inhalation. New details residents in delaware and maryland are breathing a sigh of relief after authorities captured a man accused of killing his coworkers in cold blood. Fleeing the scene in the suspects car, a massive multistate finally taking him in. Tom cost tell low has more. Reporter this morning an accused killer is in custody. This 37yearold captured by atf agents in delaware. Following a manhunt that stretched across multiple state lines along the east coast. Heres a live look outside from the castros looking over San Francisco. Those clouds just rolling by and its been quite a while since weve had wet weather. Well, taking a look live now from mt. Hamilton, temperatures still in the low 60s, being held down because of all the cloud cover. In some spots, its cooler than yesterday. Were 10 degrees cooler now in livermore than where we were yesterday because we saw those temperatures quickly warming up with all of the sunshine, but in other areas, we are seeing some cooler some milder temperatures compared to yesterday. Looking at our highs for this afternoon, reaching into the upper 60s in the south bay, now how long that has been since weve had weather like that . And then winds coming in from the west at about 10 miles per hour. For the east bay, hayward, 68 degrees, 68 also in walnut creek and some upper 60s in livermore. San mateo, 65 degrees there. And most of San Francisco will stay in the 50s while the mission district, well see that high this afternoon, 62 and 67 degrees in sonoma today. Also monitoring the wind speeds. Right now we have a stronger delta breeze, elsewhere, wind speeds at about ten miles per hour. Looking at the north bay, winds shifting the direction of some of that wild fire smoke away from the bay area and off towards the north and east. Looking at the storm system right now, plenty of wet wlr moving through washington and now into oregon and starting to approach our corner of the state. As we go into this evening, looking at the timeline once again, most of that rain doesnt get here until after the sunset, but there could be some light spotty showers during the evening commute for northern Sonoma County and then moving into napa county. And then here we are at 9 00, we start to see at times heavier downpours moving into parts of the north bay, marin county into San Francisco, and then into the east bay. And the trivalley. And then for san jose, shortly after midnight, but the rain doesnt last that long, and then our winds staying on shore, turning northwesterly for tomorrow. The rain totals may reach up to about a quarter of an inch of rain, most the areas from the east bay and then further off towards the north. In san jose, it shows a tenth of an inch, i dont know if well get that much. Im thinking more like a few one hundred ets of an inches. We havent measure apd drop of rain and on average for the north bay, we get over an inch and a half of rain. So, this little quarter of an inch of rain wont do that much. But then as we go into the weekend, its going to be cool to start in napa valley then gradually warming up for the weekend. Thats where were going to see also in San Francisco, but the warmup doesnt come until about the middle of next week. Tuesday, 78 degrees while the inland areas will be in the upper 80s. When we take off the piloting with all youll see is the new railing and post that we need. Reporter public, private partnerships like this are helping to tackle more than 11 billion in needed repairs across some 400 sites in the National Park system. Its able to tackle some things that may not get funded otherwise. Is train military veterans, were also an active duty career program, and then we also bring in college students. Reporter the park gets long neglected repairs, students and veterans gain hands on experience, and the Construction Industry gets a highly qualified work force. And theres a lot of sfrax in a job well done. I think its a great thing what theyre doing out here, to do this National Parks. Were getting stuff in the process of restoring the historic place.
