Motive. Good morning. Its sunday, march 10th. Im stephanie sierra. Well have more on that developing story in just a moment, but lets first check in with lisa, whos tracking a level one storm in the forecast. And thats later tonight. Right, lisa . Thats right. Later on this evening, the far north bay will get their heads wet. But we are looking at a weak system and a dry sunday for the most part, as we look at live doppler seven right now, there is the system. The focus is well to the north of us. Well get the tail end of it. 54 in hayward it is 53. In san jose and almost ten degrees cooler up in the north bay. With that 42 in sonoma and 43 in vallejo. So marin, sonoma, napa, cooler into the east bay from hayward to livermore, where a little bit milder. And this level one system will bring gusty south winds throughout the later afternoon. And that is going to sweep across the bay area from about 5 00 far north through the 9 00 hour. For most of us exiting the south bay, maybe ten, 11 00. So theres a look at the temperatures upper 50s to mid 50s by about noontime with a few peeks of sun. And then by the later afternoon, the clouds thicken, the winds pick up, and then here comes the rain. A great night to watch the oscars. Well time out the rain a few more systems before we really change things up for a lot of warm weather headed our way. Stephanie. All right, lisa, thank you. Developing news now. Everyone is safe after a garage at a san jose home erupted in flames, one neighbor tells us the homeowner is okay, and the structure that burned was the mans office for his carpeting business. It also stored propane tanks, chemicals, and torching supplies, he said. When i was talking to my neighbor, one of his friends was there, walked in the back and said, hey, you got something thats on fire. And before they could do anything, it was already up and over the back of the house. It was it was depressing to see the look on his face. Small businesses are now considering a business tax boycott in the face of rising crime. Abc seven News Reporter anser hassan has an update on the recall process. We are here because as oakland deserves better than what we have been receiving. Yes. Saturday afternoon, the organization oakland united to recall sheng tao or oust held a rally to update where they are in the recall process. They need 25,000 signatures by july to get the recall on the november ballot. They already have 13,000. The question is, what has she done done to try to make things better for oakland . What has she done . Shes not done anything. Former Alameda County superior court judge brenda harbin forte, also known as judge brenda, is the lead proponent in the recall of mayor tao. The firing of Oakland Police chief laurent armstrong, and missing a deadline for millions of dollars in state funding to tackle retail theft are among the top concerns. You dont hear any of them talking about what a great job shes doing as mayor. Judge brenda acknowledges that oakland has been struggling with many socioeconomic issues before tao took office. But she adds, the mayor has had a year to come up with her own solutions. What are you doing about east oakland . If you look at whats going on out there, what are you doing about that . So its just it she needs to go because she doesnt even have a vision for oakland mayor tao wasnt available for an interview, but in a written statement to abc seven news, she writes, my focus is fighting for a safer, more affordable and more prosperous oakland. I ask all oaklanders to help me achieve that vision with hope and collaboration, and push aside fear and division. We need Police Officers and you can say that we got 713 Police Officers. My question is, where are they . Because i dont see them. Meanwhile, jose ortiz, who runs la perla restaurant in oakland, is calling for a business tax boycott. He says hes talking to lawyers about the legality of such a move. He doesnt support the recall of mayor tao, but adds Small Businesses need to send a message to city hall. I want service, i want Police Officers to patrol in the streets of oakland and particularly the diamond district. I want the street to be more clean. I want the homeless to finish with that. Issues that has been dragging for years in oakland, anser hassan abc seven news. We also have new developments on a story we first told you about on abc seven mornings. A suspect is now in custody after a nine hour long standoff in contra costa county. The Sheriffs Office says the standoff began after deputies found a man shot near Lancaster Circle in bay point around 1 30 a. M. Saturday. They were then warned of a potential suspect inside a nearby apartment. Thats when neighbors were told to stay indoors as officers negotiated a surrender. The suspect was eventually taken into custody. The lockdown was lifted after 1030 in the morning. We have new details on a january fire that destroyed a boathouse in marin. The boathouse at the end of a pier dated back to the 1930s. The owners have plans to replace it. The nicks cove restaurant staff is working with the county on a plan to demolish and remove the burnt structure by the summer. All right. Lets check in with lisa. Hows it looking out there . Sam moss is with the Mission Housing development. Were talking about adding, you know, 1624 Story Buildings. Do you care . No, i definitely do not care. I would love to live at fontana towers. And i know dozens of families, young families in San Francisco. No, theyre not, theyre awesome. Theyre housing. Its a place thats awesome. Called housing. In recent years, expansion has occurred in the eastern neighborhoods like the mission district, potrero and the south of market neighborhoods and mission bay. Now, the state is telling San Francisco its time to build in those neighborhoods on the west and north side, which have often been resistant to change. Corey smith is with the Housing Action coalition. The state is looking at us and saying, you have to build more. You have to build more in your high resource areas, places that have good schools, places that have high quality public transit, frankly, places that have a higher income. And its time for pac heights to get apartments. But part of that proposed expansion is facing some pushback. Supervisor aaron peskin was able to pass a resolution that would impose density limits in several historic neighborhoods in his own district. For example, developers were proposing adding a 24 Story Building where this two story garage sits. Another idea called for demolishing this building to add a 17 story high rise. But because both are in a historic neighborhood, they are now protected. You know, you can expect people to say, wait a minute, thats his district, that hes doing this. I think we can increase the amount of housing and Affordable Housing in San Francisco without destroying our neighborhoods. Another option is to create more Affordable Housing along major commercial corridors like geary boulevard, van ness avenue and church street. But some say theres no point in building all these new units without bolstering Public Transportation to serve residents. We asked billy riggs, a usf transportation and urban development professor, what needs to happen. How are we going to support all those people from a transportation point of view, because they really want people to live near a transportation hub, right . I mean, i were not there. Were not were not there in terms of the current infrastructure, you know, were talking hundreds of thousands of new People Living in the city. Now, how are we going to do that . We have to start planning now how we invest in our infrastructure. He says. Our current Transit System doesnt work for everyone because San Francisco doesnt have the kind of integrated system like new york city does. That gets you everywhere, anytime. If youve got to wait 20 minutes on a train, is that really work for you . And for some people, particularly at the margins, is weve got vulnerable populations that 20 minutes late means you lose your job. Lyanne melendez, abc seven news. So in order to meet that goal of 82,000 units in the next seven years, the city has to build close to 12,000 units per year. All right, lets check out the rain in the forecast. And the warriors lose. 126 113 their own for this season without steph you got to stop something. And i thought they got anything they wanted all night. So it was a tough night for us defensively. We just never had any traction in the game. I didnt feel like we had confidence or energy, and with steph out, it changes things dramatically for us. Unfortunate night, the office for everybody. Well to the north of us that will be pushing through the bay area later on this afternoon in the north bay. And then this evening for the rest of us. 727 is the sunrise. And the sun sets at 712. So you probably notice that how dark it is this morning it is 50 in San Francisco right now. High pressure builds on wednesday and offshore winds on thursday into the weekend. And were talking temperatures well above average. Heres a look at the rest of today. Couple hours here of some sun. And then the clouds increase the front about 5 00 through santa rosa pushing through marin county by the evening hours. And then as we look at the east bay, you can see some heavier downpours there over in concord, perhaps emeryville along the peninsula. 9 00 and then it falls apart and exits the south bay later on tonight, 9 or 10 00. So early monday we are dry and well get a few peeks of partly sunny conditions again. But that afternoon commute on monday, looking kind of wet in the north bay, and then some heavier rain light to moderate throughout the overnight hours into early tuesday. And then by sunrise we have wet pavement, sunny skies and a sunny afternoon. First system leaving anywhere from a couple hundredths to about 2 10 up in the north bay. And then we add in that monday night and tuesday system, we could be up to a third of an inch in some areas, maybe a half inch as we go up through the north bay.
