Today, the Pershing CountySheriffs Office confirms one person is dead. The cause of the death is still unclear right now and is under investigation. This morning, burners sheltered in place all weekend because of monsoon rains that hit the area. The Black Rock Desert is in an ancient lakebed. And when it rains, the dust turns into a sticky, thick mud that makes it not only difficult to walk, but pretty much impossible to drive. Only a few people have been able to leave. We have thousands of people that are trying to leave right now. So its kind of like a mass exodus. And we got trapped in the mud and everything was shut down and getting out was a nightmare. The conditions forced. Organizers to cancel the burning of the huge burning man effigy last night. And they say the burn will happen this evening. Its a big boost for the economy. Now, this comes as another major tech event announced they were leaving the city. Googles cloud next convention will be held in Las Vegas Next year. That event was held in person for the first time following the pandemic. San francisco has been in a court battle with the coalition on homelessness about clearing encampments. A judge currently blocked San Francisco from clearing encampments. City attorney david chu says they are looking to resolve this in court. So the city can move forward. Solving the homeless issue. Mr. Benioffs comments unfortunately highlight how important it is for us to resolve this injunction in a way that allows us to provide shelter and services, but also maintain healthy and clean streets. We have to do this. Everyone is suffering. No backtracking from the actual definition. There are 4000 people who are outside right now because they do not have access to shelter. An attorney for the Homelessness Coalition said that is what they are presenting to the court. They say the city is not making any sort of real offers right now to provide housing for a lot of these individuals. So as this goes on, there is that ongoing issue about what the future will look like for this convention, which starts very soon in San Francisco and could very well be possible that its no longer here after this year. But were going to have to wait and see how this all gets resolved. Were live in San Francisco. Ryan curry, abc7 news. Thank you, ryan.
