Breaking news, pfizer says it will apply for emergency approval of its covid19 vaccine today so that puts it on track for distribution before christmas. Pfizer says its vaccine has shown to be 95 effective in Clinical Trials so far. This morning were hearing from the dean of Brown University school of Public Health who is sharing a potential timeline for the drug to reach millions of us. Its probably going to take a couple weeks for the fda. The next meeting is december 8th. S that thats when it usually would get reviewed. It might get reviewed by then. Im expecting early december. Pfizer says once it receives approval it could begin distribution within 24 hours. The vaccine has to be frozen during storage and shipping and that could present challenges. Moderna is close to requesting approval for its coronavirus vaccine. Its effectiveness is about the same, 94. 5 . But it doesnt require those extremely cold conditions. As covid19 cases spike across california the state is ordering another curfew. It starts tomorrow night for counties that are in the purple tier. Governor governor newsff goop governor newsoms limitedid stayathome order will start from 10 00 at night until 5 00 in the morning. Why are we doing this and what are we hoping to gain . Its really to avoid further restrictions. The state is seeing more than 11,000 new cases reported. Californias Positivity Rate climbed from 3. 3 to 5 in two weeks. Thats a 52 increase. This state curfew order will have a direct effect on restaurants and bars that are already struggling just to make it. Julian glover is live in san jose in an area bracing for this impact. Good morning. Yeah. This new 10 00 p. M. Curfew going into Effect Tomorrow means closing time will come a bit early for the bars and restaurants behind me at san pedro square. Theyll be calling it quits at 9 00 p. M. For the last call for the evening. On a normal friday night they would be bustling with business. Many of them students from neighboring san jose state. But during covid times the crowds coming out to bars and restaurants serving alcohol much smaller. Now the party has to end early with the governors new 10 00 p. M. Curfew kicking in. State Health Leaders zeroing in on the younger crowd more likely to be out late at night and potentially more reckless with distancing and mask wearing. 9 00 to 12 00 was prime time on friday nights for the owner of oflahertys irish pub, but he understands what theyre doing. The more likely theyre to be out the less cautious they are. We extended our hours and we have to backtrack again. It feels like the beginning of the lockdown. Bars and restaurants here were beginning to extend hours, trying to take more advantage of the Outdoor Dining and serving of alcohol, but businesses have to comply with that curfew now. Law enforcement doesnt plan to enforce it for civilians coming and going. The Santa Clara County Sheriffs Office telling us they will not be patrolling for violators, and the San Jose Police department they say they will be focusing on education and not using the curfew as an excuse or reason to stop or detain people out past the 10 00 p. M. Curfew. Again, yet another blow for businesses, mainly restaurants and bars in downtown san jose. Reporting live in downtown san jose, Julian Glover, abc7 news. All right. Thank you. Some experts are questioning the Science Behind the governors curfew. They say there isnt enough data to show this has a real impact on the spread. They point out that many gatherings involving multiple households are actually happening during the day. Mark cullen an infection disease expert at Stanford University tells the chronicle the virus doesnt care day or night. Its a way at getting at behavior modification but it seems like an odd one that doesnt in and of itself address the problem. Cullen believes orders should be directed at specific activities like Indoor Dining and not a specific timeframe. Aaa says despite the pandemic 50 million americans are still planning to travel this thanksgiving. Yesterday the u. S. Travel association urged those people to either reconsider in accordance with the cdcs guidance or make sure to take all safety precautions. But he is mounting an unprecedented attempt to overturn voters will and stomp president elect biden from becoming president in january. Today hes inviting michigan lawmakers to the white house. Those are unfounded claims. Some of President Trumps legal challenges focused on debunked theories about the software used to tabulate votes across several states.
