Now well zoom into the bay area here, about 22,000 customers are expected to lose power in seven counties. The utility hopes to restore service by 10 00 p. M. Friday. The goal is to prevent fires sparking from power lines damaged or knocked down by high winds. With thousands of people working from home and doing school remotely, its not easy dealing with these power outages. Anser hassan is live in walnut creek with more. Good morning. This is one of the neighborhoods in walnut creek where the power has been shut off since last night. If you look down the street, no street lights, homes without electricity. The light you see is from our news van. Pg e has been informing residents since monday that power would be shut off due to the threat of wildfires. In the east bay this will affect over 6,000 customers, mostly in the cities of walnut creek, danville, dublin and oakland. To help out, pg e opened 40 Community Resource centers where people can go if they dont have electricity. Those centers will be open from 8 00 a. M. To 10 00 p. M. Over the next two days. Pg e says this power shutoff will affect less than 1 of their 5. 4 million customers. They claim that improvements to the psps program and infrastructure over the past year means fewer residents will lose power. Were trying to make them shorter events and smaller events. So were really targeting areas trying to make it pockets and targeted zones rather than larger areas. Customers have been told that power could be off until friday at 10 00 p. M. Pg e says crews will be out friday morning to inspect power lines. If all goes well, they will turn the power on as quickly as possible. Those of you who still have power, pg e is asking you to conserve power over the next two days. Anser hassan, abc7 news. The coronavirus pandemic is an issue that will likely be brought up at the town hall and this comes as the nations top Infectious Disease expert says cases will continue to go up as we head into the winter. Jobina is at the live desk with the new warning. Thank you. Dr. Anthony fauci is on gma this morning with a grim outlook on winter. He said people need to stay home this winter to keep from another surge in cases. Particularly when you have people coming in from out of town who may have been on airplanes, in airports, they just come into the house, if you have vulnerable people, the elderly or people with underlying conditions, you better consider whether you want to do that now or forestall it. Dr. Fauci responded to the white house embracing a Great Barrington declaration that suggests people should be allow ed to live their lives without restrictions to achieve herd immunity. If you let things rip, let the infection go, no masks, crowd, it doesnt make a difference, that quite frankly is ridiculous. This idea that we have the power to protect the vulnerable is total nonsense, history has shown that thats not the case. You can watch that full interview with dr. Fauci at 7 00 on gma, right here after abc7 mornings. Thank you. You heard the concerns about flying on an airplane during the pandemic. They do taper a bit, mainly stay in the north bay from high to very high as we head into the afternoon hours. That secondary burst of winds rolls in at 11 00 through tomorrow morning and will peg at high to extreme. Not quite as dangerous as this morning but still close. We need to be vigilant. On the traffic front here, it is very busy at the bay bridge toll plaza. Well bring you that live camera now. Also its going to be slow making your way across the bridge into San Francisco. Moving over to the san mateo bridge, we had a stall earlier that cleared for people traveling westbound, it was making it sluggish there. You can see the brake lights off in the distance. The whole middle section of the bridge is slow right now. We have some new developments in the fight over increased toll on seven bay area bridges. The california Supreme Court has ordered a formal review, a regional measure three which took effect in january 2019. It raised the toll by a dollar on the bay bridge, golden gate bridge, carquinez and four others. An antitax group is challenging it saying the toll is a local tax and therefore requires a twothirds vote under state law. They argue the toll would Fund Programs unrelated to the bridges, benefit what . Never. Are you kidding me . For years, the residential burden has gone up. While the corporate burden has gone down. Loads of ballots already, also poll workers, but he needs Something Else and calls them pandemic screeners. Its great to be with you. Hello, toledo. Were less than 20 days out from the election, unlike years past every single bay area county already has more than enough poll workers and the ballots are coming in hot. Were seeing returns like we usually see on election day. John tutor says while voting by mail is not new for californians, the pandemic is. Were working hard to make sure our vote Center Workers can concentrate on helping voters. So theres a new volunteer role called pandemic screeners. They still need at least 50 people. Theyll be outside the vote center with all the personal protective equipment, the ppe they need. Theyll have ppe for the voters. Theyll give them face masks if they need one. Theyll hand them a free pen that they can keep. Theyll also maintain social distancing in line. Were hoping not to have the huge lines were seeing in georgia and tecxas and other places. I dont think well see that here to avoid that, his advice is to vote early by mail. Turnout is incredible. The search is on this morning for a lemur that is missing from the San Francisco zoo. We found evidence of forced entry, meaning there was damage to the enclosure. So this is 21yearold mackey. The San Francisco zoo realized he was missing wednesday morning after they saw him tuesday night. The zoo says hes older and slower than the other primates which is why officials think somebody may have been able to catch him. Incredibly rare animals, endangered, theyre not easy to take care of. Were reaching out to the public again to help us bring him back to the zoo. So 20 years ago two teens were charged with breaking into the zoo and stealing two koalas. An anonymous tip led them to a San Francisco home. Police are looking into all possible motives including whether someone might want to sell mackey or keep him as a pet and that is illegal in california. This is sad, julian. It is. Its just sad that someone would do this. Hopefully they already have their thrills. Hopefully mackey is okay and they will return him to the zoo. Exactly. They dont know how to care for him. Im concerned about mackey. I am, too. I am, too. Grow a conscious. Send him back. Yeah. Where he needs to be. Where they know how to take care of him. Hes with his family. You just ripped him away from his family. Lets talk about weather, shall we . I was going to try to spin this some way positive, but theres not a lot of positivity in the weather unless you like the heat, what im getting from social media most of you are tired of it. 64 from the roof camera in San Francisco. Look at the Ferry Building, flags are not moving. Moderate risk of heat illness today and tomorrow. Well have record warm lows and highs. Not as hot early next week. Its not going to be autumnlike chill but not this hot. Asterisk is a record high. 93 in milpitas to 99 in gilroy. Thats your spread across the south bay. 91 to 95 across the peninsula. Low to mid 80s along the coast. On the bay side of San Francisco, near 90. Same thing in south San Francisco. Mid 80s from bodega bay to sausalito. 94 to 99 through the north bay valleys.
