Lets get to other developing news, following several fastmoving fires made worse by the strong winds in the bay area this weekend. Several broke out yesterday including the quail fire burning outside of the town of winters along with the willow fire in concord and gulch fire south of petaluma. The quail fire burned 1,200 acres at last check. Its 5 contained. We know at least 100 structures are threatened and evacuations have been under way. Overnight the San Francisco Fire Department is sending 22 firefighters and fire trucks to help out this morning. The willow fire in concord is fully contained at 137 acres are near east oliviera road and willow pass road. It at one point blocked access to highway 4. Firefighters are keeping a close eye on hot spots in Sonoma County, started along stage gulch road. Big part of this is the winds weve been talking about all weekend. Youre right, we may have a bit of a lull but the wind returns, strongest on the coast, a look at live doppler 7 and no cloud cover here to speak of but as we check out the wind trend for the fires near winters, the quail fire i should say throughout the day there will be northwesterly at about 15 to begin at about 8 00 and up to 20 miles an hour as we go through the rest of the day. So as we look live out towards emeryville, camera shaking, 56 in oakland. 49 in gilroy. 52 pacifica. Walnut creek we have a cooler start in petaluma, only 46 and its 55 in concord, 50 in livermore so that air mass is cooler, the skies are clear and as we look at the Golden Gate Bridge, its gusty there today. 60s for most as we get towards 9 00, except at the coast and then as we go through the afternoon, the winds pick up, up to 35mileanhour gusts at the shoreline, maybe 15 to 25 where else and looking at temperatures cool, only in the low 70s inland, upper 60s around the bay. So with that warming trend tomorrow, some of our winds subside but ill explain how we still will be breezy throughout much of the week coming up. Liz . Lisa, thank you. Taking a live look at our Golden Gate Bridge camera behindopeen me from thereus thbrge hased to riving y. The 83yearold Golden Gate Bridge has been under a retrofitting project to protect it from high winds. The handrails on the west side has been replaced with the vertical slats allow more air to flow through. During high wind days the bridge emits whistling sounds that can be heard for miles. Dont worry, its not going to be every day. This is not a new sound that youll be hearing when you wake up in the morning, when you go to bed at night. Can it sing happy birthday to me . We might have to bring on a harmonics expert on the staff to see if we cant make it sing and take requests. Thats pretty cool. I havent heard it myself, lisa but a lot of people are saying what is that sound . The winds this weekend will amplify that. I heard could you hear it across to so yes, and certainly the strongest winds were on friday, still pretty gusty yesterday and today were going with that theme of breezy around the bay, gusty at the coast, and looking at High Pressure to build in, bricking a warming trend as we start the work week but thats also with the flow around the high, breezy winds and systems going to set up to the east of us, area of low pressure and thats going to allow the Pressure Gradient to stay rather elevated as we get through the early part of the week, which translates into breezy winds, certainly in the Sacramento Valley where we have some of the fires and also just generally around the bay and at the coast, as we have that steady onshore flow, even though its going to back off tomorrow. Satellite and radar composite, this system brought cooler air to northern california, you nors though and also initiating some rain, maybe showers and thunderstorms in the Sierra Nevada and high elevation snow for some slippery conditions there. So looking right now in the north bay, this is san rafael, sun certainly evident here, 53 San Francisco. Its 56 in oakland. 54 in redwood city and san jose and looking at the upper 40s in gilroy, 52 in pacifica. Our exploratorium camera, a look at the full moon that was yesterday, 47 santa rosa, 46 in petaluma, with the clear sky and that cooler air mass, certainly looking at cooler conditions despite the breezy winds in the upper elevations. 55 concord, 50 in livermore and 101 san jose nice start to your sunday, breezy winds for most of us, and downright windy at the coast, looking at that warmer pattern beginning tomorrow and its going to be nice throughout pthe week. A little taste of summer as we get into the tuesday wednesday time period. So the wind gusts throughout the day today fairly strong from 25 miles an hour around the bay and up to 42 miles an hour from point reyes, over 30 miles an hour half moon bay, San Francisco, this is 5 00. Its stronger by Late Afternoon and they dial back but they shift more to a northerly component early tomorrow and as you can see, were still breezy in the valley here by monday, with winds up to about 23 miles an hour. So even with the High Pressure and that warmer weather and the winds backing off along the coast, it will still be breezy around the bay. 74 in concord today, look for 70 in richmond, san rafael and oakland, popular number there. Notice the numbers not very warm today. Today will be the warmest day of the week, but as we is when the High Pressure ridge already overhead bringing some low 90s inland, by wednesday were in the, so you can call it hot inland, 70s around the bay, and beginning to see those temperatures slip by thursday. Here is the accuweather sevenday forecast, windy at the coast, lighter winds tomorrow, here comes the warmth, tuesday, wednesday, cooling begins on thursday, and more cooling by the end of the week. I wish i had better news for the winds but it is the season and as we get into that warming trend, there will be drier winds, not so much today though. Liz . Sounds good. Its going to get gusty. Were talking once again over 30 miles an hour, right at the coast. Here is a look in general with winds this morning about 18 miles an hour, breezy around the bay and as we get towards say 4 00 or 5 00, up to 20, 25 miles an hour into 7 00, 8 00 and begin to subside, they wont be as strong monday. We still will see our onshore flow, keeping it cool at the coast. Pretty view from our exploratorium camera. We had white caps on the bay yesterday, likely aga as peak le system theres a couple systems but one to the another bringing perhaps some mountain snow and certainly some rain, possibly thunderstorms and hail to parts of the northern Sacramento Valley, also some wind. Winds are going to come in fast again throughout the coast out of the northwest and then there will be more out of the north as we begin that warming and that will also include a drying trend as we get the northerly winds. Here is our roof camera, the flag there 53 in the city. Its 54 redwood city. 56 in oakland and the Golden Gate Bridge looking golden out there this morning, nice view camera not too still though because we have the upper level winds, 47 in the north bay so cooler air mass, we still have the winds, usually that keeps us warmer but with the cooler air mass, the clear sky overnight about four or five degrees colder this morning for some of you, 50 in livermore and lake tahoe, how about 30 degrees in truckee . 34 south lake and looks pretty stormy, we have some rain increasing in and around the area, and also that high elevation snow, so breezy winds this afternoon, windy at the coast, warming trend begins tomorrow, still northerly winds for us to contend with for the next several days and thats out of the drier direction when its northwest, at least we have higher humidity, dew points dropping into the next couple of days. That doesnt bode well for fanning of the flames of the fires or even starting more fires as we get hotter. So north bay today 50s around 8 00, as we go through 10 00, 11 00, 12 00, mid and upper 60s and highs only in the low 70s so maybe some of you like the break from the heat, youll like the low 70s, up toward santa rosa, san rafael, even richmond, getting breezy right around hercules today around the bay, over 20 miles an hour, 70 at oakland. How about 68 in fremont and low to mid70s out by the delta. Its going to be windy there though. At cue weather sevenday forecast were cool today, and those gusty winds at the coast, lighter winds tomorrow, a warmer day. The warmup tuesday, wednesday. Thursday still feeling nice but not as warm and then as we get into the end of the week, the winds come back and it is again cooler in time for next weekend. Liz . All right, lisa, thank you.
