So lets start with south san jose where an old roller rink on blossom hill road, it was a kid favorite for myself, is actually one step closer to being turned into Affordable Housing for seniors. The Planning Commission has endorsed the commission of building with more than 145 units. 49 of those units will be designated for formerly homeless people. Some residents expressed concern about safety, but city leaders say the only impact will be positive. We are in a very, very delicate situation for the city, a tipping point, where these projects have to get approved. Otherwise the very problem that a lot of our neighbors are complaining about, People Living on the streets is never going to get resolved. The only way to resolve that is with housing. The city council will vote on giving the project final approval in the next few weeks. And now to San Francisco, where Affordable Housing in the Richmond District on third avenue is going to stay that way. Abc7 news was there as mayor london breed and supervisor sand la lee fewer announced the 12unit rent controlled building. The citys Small Sites Program helped make this happen. We need to do more to invest in small sites, because thats an opportunity to help stabilize lowincome families who live in these apartment buildings all over the west side who oftentimes are not getting the support that they need. Officials say the Small Sites Program has stabilized housing for more than 500 residents. Sky 7 was over the neighborhood of Cavanaugh Court and foley street. Police did not name the business, but say a man with a gunshot wound was found and taken to the hospital. The circumstances surrounding the shooting are still unclear. Police did not say whether they are looking for suspect at this time. On the peninsula, a bus hit and killed an elderly woman in redwood city. She was crossing El Camino Real near james avenue outside Sequoia High School this morning. Abc7 News Reporter kris reyes found people who say theyre not surprised, and theyre calling for action to make that intersection safer. Left hand turn signals, because i was walking, especially on this side. The people arent looking for pedestrians. Theyre looking for the oncoming traffic, which is a problem because we have three schools here. This is sky 7 over the crash involving a samtrans bus and a pedestrian. A 70yearold woman was hit and killed about 9 00 a. M. In redwood city near several schools. The bus was traveling southbound on El Camino Real when it happened. Four people were on board. No one else was injured. A lot of times you can just be crossing the intersection right here. When the light turns green, and it says walk, then a lot of the cars still keep turning. Residents who live around here tell me they have been worried about this intersection for a while, that theyve had their own close calls. And just this september, a pedestrian was hit by a police car and taken to the hospital in serious condition at this very same cross street, james avenue and El Camino Real. In that september incident, the pedestrian was hit by a police unit responding to an armed Home Invasion about 4 00 a. M. This resident witnessed another close call, also at this intersection. I heard it. I was on the bus. I just got off the bus, i heard it, and i came it and helped her out of the car. Its ridiculous. Police blocked the intersection all morning. The bus was traveling its regular route from daly city bart to palo alto transit center. No word on the condition of the bus driver or if any charges are pending. It takes years to build up, but you can lose it real quick. Brian hayes owns two small shops and five kiosks at pier 39. A lot of it is attributed to te homeless. He says foot traffic is down. Some businesses have responded by hiring external Marketing Companies to bring in tourists. Simcoe owns five restaurants here. They tell us what happened to the beautiful city . The city that they loved by the bay, that they used to just love bringing their family here, and now they come and they see the homeless and the needles or they tell us how their car got broke into and they lost everything. Sandra fletcher, president of simcoe disputes claims made by the city that the high cost of hotels is driving tourists away. This is what the mayor told us two days ago. San francisco is such an amazing city, and people talk about the challenges, but they also talk about the fact that they love San Francisco. We heard from tourists today who told us they already know what to expect. There is a lot of homeless people, a lot of poverty in certain areas. Thats mostly what ive heard. Supervisor heaney stood with supporters at a Public Safety hearing demanding members adopt the emergency plan. It includes Emergency Response for street overdoses and psychosis, regular reporting of overdose deaths, easier access to narcan and funding to emergency detox facilities. We have to recognize when our city is facing serious challenges, and we have to recognize the responsibility that we have when these challenges get to a level of crisis. A familys pictures are missing after their camera was stolen from their parked car. Its a story weve heard about many times before in the by area. Kirk jacobson and his family are back in arizona, but still reeling from their road trip through the bay area. Thats after their digital camera with hundreds of family photos on its sd card was stolen from their suv sunday evening while they were inside a brentwood movie theater. Jacobson told us he stashed the sony a6000 under the seats because he knew he couldnt bring a camera into the movie. This is his daughter harley holding the camera before it was stolen. And were hurt, and were sad. It kind of hit us that it was done buzz somebody needed money. I want the pictures back. Its got the little kids in it from halloween on. Jacobsens mother lives in the east bay. It would be really a nice christmas miracle if we could get those pictures back. It would be really wonderful. Jacobson had these photos on his phone, but said the sd card contained in more of his young kids, a large Family Reunion in oregon, and their 18hour ordeal stuck on i5 during the bomb cyclone storm near mount shasta. Now he wants to buy his camera back through an ad on craigslist. Jacobson is offering 450 for the camera and the sd card, or 150 for just the card, no questions asked. Were kind of thinking that the best way for the person that took this to get the money that theyre looking for is to hopefully be able to return it to us. Jacobson does have a record of a serial number, and he did make a police report. So he thinks it will be difficult for the thieves to sell the camera. What youre looking at here is more than 2 million of suspected stolen merchandise, laptop, tablets, phones, personal items, purses. Both personal and from stores were put on display today by the San Francisco district attorneys office. They along with other Law Enforcement agencies revealed the results of operation focus lens. Investigators say it disrupted a large scale fencing operation. What creates an incentive to break into cars and to break into homes is if you can quickly turn whatever you stole into money. And a fencing operation makes that possible. Investigators say this operation is unprecedented in terms of the level of collaboration by Law Enforcement and the sheer volume and dollar amount of what they recovered. They say arrests were made in the investigation, but they are not ready to share that information yet. Probably more arrests coming.
