He pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit mail fraud and Honest Services mail fraud. Federal prosecutors say he agreed to pay rick singer, the mastermind behind the scandal 300,000. The money disguised as donations to singers foundation was to participate in the College Recruitment scheme. A juror overslept his alarm, missed court and ended up in jail for more than a week. Eileen from our sister station in los angeles has the story. Deandre summerville learned a lesson the hard way. The 21yearold received a summons for jury duty. His first time in a courtroom. He was chosen to serve as a juror on a civil case and told to come back the next day, 9 00 in the morning. I woke up and looked at the time. I was like, oh, shoot, its past the time. Instead of calling in to court to let them know he overslept, he went to work. Days later, he received a subpoena to go before the judge. I stay at the beginning of every trial, i talk about the importance of jury service. I just said, sir, i honestly, i overslept. And i didnt understand the seriousness of it. He asked if i had a criminal record. I said ive never been arrested. What happened next stunned him. Despite apologizing, he sentenced him to ten days in jail. His failure to appear delayed the trial by 45 minutes. He lives with his grandparents. He says he could only think of his grandfather who he helps care for by taking him to therapy. He depends on me. So i was like, you know, its hard for him. He appealed the punishment. The same judge reduced the sentence after he had served the time. His probation was lowered from one year to three months. Instead of 150 hours of community service, hell perform 30 hours. The judge also says he would consider a motion to drop the contempt of court charge in the future. Ill take it as a learning experience. Keep moving. I wish it could have got thrown out. The long time resident is accused of a deadly rampage tuesday afternoon at the Rancho San Antonio open space preserve near cupertino which claimed the life of the man in sunnyvale. I dont get why someone would want to repeatedly hit somebody over and over for no reason. He was just walking. He didnt do anything wrong. Michelle andrews was his neighbor for 15 years and shared her disbelief. Respectful. Nice. Kept to himself a lot. She drove on to the trail where she hit him with her vehicle intentionally reversed and drove back and forth over his body multiple times as seen by a witness and a park ranger. She faces 33 years to life. She faces three counts including murder with enhancement for using car as a Deadly Weapon and resisting an officer. Legal analyst and former prosecutor steven clark says determining her mental state at the time of the attack will be key for the defense. They will reverse engineer her Mental Health history to look into whether she has any serious Mental Health disorders or whether there was something going on that caused her to act in this way. She and her boyfriend are on trial for the murder of her ex in 2016. Greens mother took the witness stand today. Weve highlighted her showing her exiting the courthouse and hugging friends and family after her testimony. She told jurors that she talked to her son on the night he disappeared. He told her he was going to meet lee that night. She cautioned him to meet lee in a public place. In a separate hearing, two jurors dismissed from the trial were found in contempt by judge trina thompson. Neither will pay a fine or serve jail time. When safety is under attack, what do we do . Parents, students and administrators from Garfield Elementary school staged a protest at 22nd avenue and foothill boulevard in this morning. Theyre hoping to get drivers to slow down on the busy street. The effort is after a woman was killed on tuesday. Her niece, the garfield student was injured. Police evacuated hundreds of students from a Fremont Middle School after someone emailed a bomb threat toe the campus. Police tweeted around 9 00 a. M. That they were investigating a bomb threat at thornton junior high school. Investigators say they had nothing to prove the threat was credible but took measures and evacuated the building. A thorough search found nothing suspicious and police gave the all clear around 10 00 a. M. Detectives are now investigating this anonymous email to see if they could figure out who sent it.
