Today he sort of he was more aggressive and he did go after some of his counterparts trying to establish that distinct division between what he is arguing is a need for return to stability, promoting his electability, which is what weve seen driving his boost in the polls, and trying to draw distinction between his vision and what he will argue is those of his progressive rivals who are arguing, you really need to just shake up the entire system. I think it was status quo. Great debate, status quo debate, i dont think it really changed the race. Thats good for biden, its good por warren, its good for Bernie Sanders. I think they remain the top three. If im going to pick a winner im going to go out on a limb and say mayor pete. A really solid debate, carved out a coherent position in the centerleft, firmly in the biden camp on the health care issue. And he kind of rose above it in that moment when they were all fighting and castro went after biden and the back and forth. And he said, you know he made an appeal to democratic unity. But if youre one of the yeah, go ahead. If youre one of those candidate on this the wings who really had to have that kind of spotlightstealing moment to really try and give your campaign a boost and a jolt, did we see that . All they have to do is go on his website and tell him how that money will be used to help address their problems. Now its essentially a case study for an idea that his campaign has been proposing. And surprisingly hes not the first person to propose it. Its been floating around in the past by other politicians. But its something that hes sticking to, and now offering to all of us if we just go on his website. All right, mona. I know he said that a lot of other candidates would use that money on advertising on tv and radio, but he wants to give it to american families. Mona, thank you so much for joining us live from houston. President trump has been uncharacteristic quiet, even though he said hed watch at least some of last nights debate. The president was in baltimore for a republican retreat where he used part of his speech to attack the democratic contenders, saying the country will go to hell if hes not reelected. And as the president returned to the white house, there was reaction from his campaign saying, quote, unimpressive roster the dems, President Trump will dominate any of them. Now to a breakdown of how the toptiered candidates fared last night. So theyve already qualified to take part in debate four next month. Our abc news contributors joined byron pitts in the spin room. Castro that moment with the Vice President when he questioned his memory in that moment, did he go too far . That seems to be the uncomfortable moment of the night. I think it depends on your perspective. I think younger voters, i think folks who understand this is the spirit of the debate, i dont think theyre going to see it as an offensive moment, i think theyre going to see it as debate. I think there are more traditional oldschool folks who like the nicy nice. Others were probably a little startled by it. Democratic candidates make a mistake if they think they have to become their version of donald trump. If the voters want a bully, they got the bully, theyve got the biggest, baddest bully sitting in the white house. Can the democrats win with the gun control we talked about, taking away everyones ak47 . I think its a slippery slope. I think when you Start Talking about registration and mandatory buybacks that to people seems to go a little bit too far. Between the progressive and moderate wings of the democratic party, whos winning that right now . The energy in the future and the president of this party is with the millennials, with the new american majority black and brown voters. Black women have saved this party for a long time and well continue to do that. That energy is in the progressive nature. What were talking about right now is bold leadership. If weve learned anything from trump, its that you need to deliver to your base. And the base of this party are people who have been waiting on the world to change for a long time and theyre tired of waiting. This issue has completely shifted politics. Im a gunowning texan. The majority of gunowning texans today want background checks. Want red flag laws. If you go too far, confiscation of guns and whatever, thats a problem. But the issue that democrats used to run away from 10 years ago or 15 years ago on guns is now popular among the majority of gun owners. This is the point why is it donald trump hasnt put a position out . And the twitterverse has declared its winner of the debate, and it is abcs own linsey davis. Twitter buzzing after an exchange where she asked senator Kamala Harris why she did not try to effect change as a prosecutor. One twitter user responding with a gif of actor jordan peele sweating with the caption the candidates whenever linsey davis asks a question. Were learning more about an Emergency Landing by a transatlantic flight because of spilled coffee. The condor flight with more than 300 passengers was diverted to ireland. Investigators say the pilot put his coffee cup on a tray table without a lid, and the coffee spilled onto the controls. Weve all been there, just never in a plane. The spill causing a Strong Electrical burning smell. The smoke in the cockpit. No one was hurt. In maryland a frightening scene on a highway as a small plane crashed into a car right after takeoff. The plane running off the end of the runway at Freeway Airport and into traffic on the actual freeway. The coast guard wants to know whos been making hoax calls and threats over the radio used at sea. Officials say those calls have been made from off the gulf coast of florida. The most recent one received was a month ago. The threats are being made by a male voice against coast personnel and assets. Penalties for making such calls can include up to ten years in prison and 250,000 in fines. Were getting our first look at a subpar escape attempt, south Florida Police tracking down a suspected car thief after he hijacked a golf cart. He was among three suspects on the run last saturday. Police say he took the cart from two golfers who were in the middle of a round. He told them he thought it would be faster than running. I guess hes right.
