Reporter its a good idea, one Central Place where victims can come and get all sorts of help and they are creating it here at Rucker Elementary School here in gilroy, it will be a Family Assistance Center and they can get services here such as grief counseling and emotional support. They are really going to need that. Se t had escribed a horrific been shot said they could not stop and had to keep going, and they described a supportive scene where strangers helped each other. I felt like a little stinging and i got grazed on my side, and i said, okay, i got grazed and i looked down and my whole leg was red, and i thought, oh, dang, i got hit in the leg and i rolled this ankle in the cement and i was on the ground and Good Samaritans helped me to get up to the top and a couple cops helped me out. The District Attorney setting up the center will open up at 9 00 this morning until 10 00, and it will be open until the end of the week, and then they will see if they will keep it open throughout next week. The youngest victim is Stephen Romero of san jose. His mother and grandmother were also shot. A teenager from san jose also died, this is salazar. And also killed, 25yearold trevor irby from new york. He was visiting gilroy with his girl friend who was not hurt in the shooting. His grandmother spoke about how much she would miss him. Everybody was his friend. I dont care if you met him two days ago, they would become his friend, i mean, thats how, you know, loveable he was. Whenever he called he would always say i love you grandma, and i would say, i love you trevor. She also said trevor and his girlfriend were deeply in love and when she would ask why they had not gotten married yet, they would say they had plenty of time. The Gilroy Foundation established a special fund for the victims, and the relief fund will help those affected. We have a link on our website for more on how to donate. A grandchild of one of the parishioners was at the festival and ran for cover when the shooting started and thankfully that person was not hurt. The tragedy of the gilroy garlic festival talks about how difficult it is to secure large outdoor events. Festival organizers used the best devices, installed tall fences and had coordination with multiple Law Enforcement agencies, but the shooter was still able to access that venue. Industry practices will change and evolve because threats are constantly changing too. Antioch Police Arrested a father and son on disturbing charges on Sexual Abuse Involving multiple children. The 64yearold and his 31yearold son provided foster care from 2011 to 2017. The Community Came together last night to remember the victims. We are learning new information about the suspected gunman. We still dont know what led to the 19yearold suspect opening fire. Authorities are investigating social media posts and are searching his car. We know the suspect legally purchased an ak47 in nevada and brought it to california. This morning fbi agents will be in gilroy to talk to witnesses. Three people were killed and 12 others were wounded. The three victims who died were all young, 6yearold Stephen Romero of san jose being remembered as happy and positive and always full of joy, and 13yearo 13yearold Keyla Salazar was also from san jose, and she spent the morning doing chores to convince her parents to buy her a puppy, and the third victim was trevor survivors and the community is vowing to remain strong and not give into fear. Jobina fortson is live with how the victims are being remembered. Reporter there was a huge support for the grieving community. The man that organized the vigil thought he would see 20 or 30 people show up, but there were close to 1,000 that showed up here. Three young lives were lost, ages 6, 13 and a man in his 20s, and on top of that the person responsible for this was one of their own. Last nights vigil put a focus on those killed and everybody something horrible happened and it affects me personally. I have a cousin who was one of the people who was shot. Reporter the community has a long road ahead of them as far as recovery but they made it clear last night that they will remain gilroy strong. Yeah, they are going to create a Family Assistance Center here at rutger elementary school, one place where victims can come and get a range of Services Like grief counseling. Its going to be open all week and it seems like a great idea for them to have one place where they are going to be able to go to get help. They are certainly going to need it after the traumatic experience they had sunday at the festival as many people were running for their lives, and just experiencing that fear as a 19yearold open fire with an ak 47 type of gun. Witnesses say it looked like he was just randomly shooting. It was like a militarygrade guy coming to do damage. He had a bullet proof vest and a green hat and glasses, and he looked like he was going and ready to do damage. Reporter police shot and killed that gunman. Several agencies are now coming together to help the victims. The District Attorneys office and the red cross are opening this center. They have pulled together resources to help victims with things such as filing claims for medical and counseling bills, and also offering referrals and grief counseling. Its going to open at 9 00 this morning, and will be open until 10 00 each night. It will be here at rutger elementary, and it will be open all week and on friday they will assess the need and decide whether they need to stay open into next week. What motivated the gunman to target the gilroy garlic festival. He grew up in gilroy and was the grandson of a twoterm Santa Clara County supervisor. The suspect had been living with family members in nevada. Thats where he legally bought the weapon used sunday evening. He would have been barred from buying that weapon in california. Officers collected evidence from the gunmans home in gilroy where he grew up and investigators focused on a parked car that could be the gunmans car found three miles away, and from sky 7 you will see a robot alongside the vehicle. Investigators were making sure there was not a bomb or explosives inside. Sheriff deputies helped in the search. Neighbors could not believe the attacker came so close to their homes. It makes you mad and sad that its right there. I mean, its you know, hes right there. He parked right there and walked right in. Atf agents went door to door interviewing residents and looking for Surveillance Video and they want to know if the shooter was alone when he drove up and parked his car. Some witnesses told abc news they thought they saw a second gunman or accomplice. The weapon used was a variant of an ak47. The owner of the store where the suspect bought the weapon posted on facebook, quote, i did not kow this individual. He ordered the rifle off my internet page. When i did see him, he was acting happy and showed no reasons for concern. In the hours before the gilroy attack he is believed to have posted a message on instagram that says, quote, read might is right. A Chapman University sociology processor said the book is popular with far right groups. It has long been a staple with the White Supremacy movement. Its a much larger set of propaganda literature that folks that identify with the whi supremacist ideology. One of the victims who was wounded in the attack is a 12yearold girl. She was jumping in a bounce house when that gunfire began and her familys quick action may have saved her life. Translator when he was reloading his rifle i ran towards my niece and grabbed her and ran with her, and then we were all running. Governor newsom met with the child in the hospital bed yesterday. He met with all four victims still being cared for at the medical center. Governor newsom said that visit left him at a loss for words. Nothing i can say can change what has happened.
