He is hoping people like her can use the shuttle system where you drive into the city, you park at farther away locations and theyll have shuttles that can drive you to the arena and hoping people who have access to cal trains consider that as an option and use that train and transfer to muni. Lots of different options theyre considering. Liz, thank you so much. Another area of traffic concern is Market Street, but the emphasis there is mostly on safety. The city of San Francisco is finalizing plans to close Market Street to the private cars. This project would place an emphasis on making Market Street more an tractive to pedestrians and bicyclists and reduce the number of injury accidents. News anchor eric thomas has the story. Reporter market is one of the two busiest streets in San Francisco. For a half dozen years, city travel officials been studying a ban on private koornz market. Now, that project is much more closer to reality. Were talking about the busiest section of market from stewart treat on the east to vanness avenue on the west. Now, these green arrows show you where youd be allowed to drive across Market Street but not turn on to it. City Officials Say closing the street to private vehicles would make it much safer. These circles show where numerous injury and fatal accidents have occurred on market since 2005. Because of our street grid theres a lot of different paths that cars can take. If youre north of market, could you take turk or bush. Or pine to get to the west. South of market, take mission or follow some howard. Muni buses, emergency vehicles, pair rare transit, commercial vehicles, taxis and bikes would still be allowed to use market. Ride sharing Companies Like uber and lyft would have to load and unload peaks on side streets intersecting market. The project is undergoing environmental review. Construction on phase one of the 600 million project is expected to begin next year. Eric thomas reporting there. We want to hear your ideas about building a better area. No no no sweat. It is a 5 billion fine, billion with a b for facebook for privacy violations related to that cambridge and lit cat scan dal, the largest the federal trade commission has ever levied on a tech company. Regulators are instituting new oversight and restrictions on the menlo park based social media giant. Ian sure here to talk more about todays announcement. 5 billion is a lot of money. Its a lot of bs. But facebook had revenue last year of 56 billion. So how impactful is this really. And they had profit of 22 billion. Thats the hard part. I think a lot of the criticism you see coming down on the ftc is how this feels like a slap on the wrist. This is money that facebooks going to be able to replace pretty quickly. They didnt even make a big deal about it during the earnings which were today, as well. They were talking to wall street. It felt like even though this number seems huge, facebook is so large at this point, more than 2. 4 billion people use it every month. Its hard to really say, well, this was a punishment theyre going to feel something from. What would have satisfied critics. I think that a lot of what we saw in the run up to this announcement was a feeling that Mark Zuckerberg, the ceo and cofounder needed to have some personal pain. The way that would come is either him somehow being liable for some of this, possibly making him responsible in the future and one of the interesting things about the ftc, the settlement today is that Mark Zuckerberg is now going to have to personally certify that the company is doing right privacy stuff and if he says it and hes wrong and hes lying or whatever, he could have patents down the line. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. But i think thats what people really were look r looking for. Im glad au mention fundamental zuckerberg because he vowed to make some major structural changes to how we build products and run this company. Which sounds great. Except recent history suggests that it might not happen. I think one of the most kind of telling things about facebook and its corporate history is the number of times you can count theyve said im sorry, were going to change and it just keeps happening over and over and over again. There was an analyst once who told me he felt like there was allot of facebook. All these things they used to do that now were dealing with the impact of that. Heres an interesting number since we were talking about billions. Since the scandal broke with cambridge analytica, facebooks value has increased by 40 billion. Which leadson does the public even really care about its own privacy because these numbers would suggest that were just the delete Facebook Movement which started awhile ago, you dont hear much about that. People are not running away from facebook. No there is indications theyre using it slightly less. A lot of facebook growth is coming from overseas. Not the United States anymore. Your point is well take. En. What will be interesting is to see whether these things eventually have an impact. Theres a question whether advertisers will say im done with all the drama. Theres a question whether or not facebook is going to step on its own toes more. Theres an ftc, even though the settlement this morning, this afternoon weigh found theres a new investigation over antitrust concerns. This is going to be an ongoing issue and lets not mention if Congress Steps in, as well. More regulations may be coming for facebook. There is their preemptive strike to get this one out of the way. This is definitely the first of many times well be talking about these issues. Ian schure from cnet, thanks for coming in. Thanks for having me. Thank you. Snapchat is growing again. Mueller didnt offer up much today. Abc News Reporter mona cosar abdi explains. Reporter two years of anticipation boiling down to this moment. As you know in may 2017, the acting attorney general asked me to be as special counsel. Former special counsel Robert Mueller taking the stand in powerful back to back hearings answering questions about his 22month long investigation into russian interference in the 2016 election and the trump campaign. Why didnt you subpoena the president. The reason we didnt do the interview is because of the length of time it would take to resolve the issues. And what about total exoneration . Did you totally exonerate the president. No sflo. Republicans took aim at muellers reputation. It was not the special counsels job to determine Donald Trumps innocence or to exonerate him. Gop members launching an attack on his team and questioning the origins of his investigation and while mueller remain tightlipped how it began, he didnt have the an issue reiterating his concern about Russian Election interference. That aspect of our investigation that has and would have longterm damage to the United States. Regardless, President Trump declared the event as a win for the white house. For three years, all nonsense. So this was a very big day for our country and you could say it was a great day for me but i dont even like to say that. One of the biggest moments of todays event with mueller clarifying from the start of his investigation he was aware of the Justice Department guideline prohibiting him from indicting a sitting president but added that the president can be charged after he leaves office. Mona cosar abdi, abc news, capitol hill. And one Congress Member who questioned mueller today is bay area representative jackie speier. Would you agree that it was not a hoax that the russians were engaged in trying to impact our election . And representative speier joins us now by phone. Can you hear us okay. I sure can. So before getting to the meat of that report, you opened up your questioning today with actually a compliment of mueller. You called him the greatest patriot in the room. Why did you want to say that . Because he was. And when you look at this record of a remarkable american, someone who served in vietnam, received a purple heart, a bronze star, who then came home, became a u. S. Attorney in San Francisco, was the fbi director, and then was called back into service to be the special counsel, he is a remarkable american and i really objected to some of my colleagues trying to besmir ch h him. Your main takeaways today, it seemed to me through the outset of this entire process that Many Democrats were looking for a smoking gun. Didnt already get that. Republicans were trying to besmir much the report or questions the reasons for initiating the report. As we are right now and what weve learned, whats the big take away for you . The big take away is we had a third party validater. Up till now, all the public has heard is comments from republicans or democratses. Now you had the author of the report talk about the fact that there are 11 instances where there was obstruction of justice. When hes queried further as to whether or not its a crime to intend to obstruct, whether or not he was successful in obstructing, yes, that is a crime. Is it a crime to conspire and that was obvious with in fact, you had both his chairman of his campaign and his vice chairman going to a private cigar club in new york city meeting with a russian operative and handing over to that operative detailed polling numbers from the trump campaign. Not just one or twice, but over course of the summer many times. So that they could use it in the targeting that their Internet Research agency was using to through facebook and twitter to send out malicious comments about Hillary Clinton and positive comments about donald trump. And you gave him time to summarize the report in his own words. Can you talk a little bit about why that was so important . Well, i wanted him to have the opportunity to talk to the American People and tell them whats the most important take away. And i think when given that opportunity, he wanted to underscore account fact that russia hasnt gone away, theyre still engaged in this he calls it intervention. I call it an invasion in which the russians are going to manipulate our election to their advantage to the greatest extent possible. Its our job to make sure that our electoral system cannot be hacked, that the machines cant be hacked. And i think theres still a question as to whether or not they are failsafe. So whats next Going Forward . Some people look at the report and feel theres enough there to warrant impeachment. I know thats a political question and depending on your views, you may want to push for that or not. But where do you see this going now that weve had the full report laid out and weve had mueller speak to congress . So, for some of us were already there. Im one of those that believes an impeachment inquiry should begin. This is not something that we should be polling about. This is something that should come after weve reviewed the report and if weve determined that theres been a high crime or misdemeanor, we should move forward with that. Others are not quite there yet. Well have to wait and see. Moving forward, i think we have an obligation to pursue these court cases where in the end, much like with the nixon inquiries, the smoking gun there or the tapes that came out. Actually quite late in the process. And the trump situation, i think its going to be the tax returns. Were going to find out why he has such a close relationship with the russians. Why during his campaign were there over 100 contacts with russians. I think that is going to be more obvious once we see his tax returns. Representative speier we always appreciate your time. I know its been a very busy day. Thank you for joining us.
