Need a reminder what to do during an earthquake . Here you go. First, protect yourself and drop cover and hold on when you feel the shaking. Drop onto your hands and knees. Get under a sturdy table if you can. If there is no shelter nearby, then youll want to get down near an interior wall where its stronger. Also hold onto your head and neck until the shaking stops. And if youre in bed during an earthquake, stay there. Protect your head with a pillow. Kep your shoes or slippers nearby so that when the shaking stops and you want to get out of bed, your feet are protected from maybe any broken glass or loose items. If youre outdoors, try to move away from buildings. The area near the exterior walls of the building is a dangerous place. Windows, exterior facades and architectural accents often are the first parts of the building to collapse. You also want to move away from power lines, trees, signs, and vehicles. Now, if youre driving, pullover if you can do so safely. Stop your car and set the parking brake. Try to avoid overpasses, bridges and power lines. But if a power line falls on your car, stay inside until a First Responder can get there to remove the wire. Youll find all of this information and much more online at abc7news. Com prepare nor cal. While were on the subject of loud noises, do you know how to tell the difference between gunshots and fireworks . Richmond police can. They helped us put together this explainer. Hi, everyone. My name is alicia moore. Im a Police Officer with the return police department. Im going to tell you how to tell the difference between gunshots and fireworks. Gunshots are very crisp and they have a certain timing or cadence to them. A pop, pop, pop, or poppoppop. Fireworks are very loud, just as gunfire, but they are very sporadic. A lot of crackling, sometimes they echo and sometimes theres a whistle before the fireworks. So you can see that it kind of sounds very similar if you close your eyes and imagine, like, seeing beautiful fireworks, usually you can tell when its fireworks based on the cadence alone. We do have our shots activation to determine shots from fireworks. We filter that out, so that actually helps our officers a lot. But its still very vital for the community to work with us and just calming to let them know that you heard gunshots. Now, we want to see and hear whats happening on the 4th of july where you live. Take a video and add the abc7now when you post it online so we can find it. Coming up next, hair cuts with heart. This particular group of stylists have a deep compassion for their community that goes out and offers manicures, makeup services, haircuts to people who are in need. I was realizing the increasing number of Homeless People in my Community Growing astronomically. So i thought, ive got to do something. I didnt have money to give, so i asked myself, what would it be . And haircut was the most obvious thing to do. I started calling shelters. I started calling people in the community. I called all my stylist friends and said, come, lets do this. To me, a haircut, even in the best of circumstances, we know when we need a haircut. It feels so good to have it done, to have somebody tending to us. And for a lot of the folks i serve, its the only touch theyre getting. I think its a reminder of them rediscovering their self worth. Just through hair cuts i feel that shes created a place for people who otherwise feel uncomfortable coming to a salon or maybe dont have access to a salon. You know shipping a package no longer requires going to a store or post office, right . Major carriers now let you calculate your shipping fees online and just printout a label from home. Thats what a sunnyvale woma unexpected bill. Michael finney has this one. Youll be thinking about how you ship after watching this story. Many of us are buying and selling on ebay which makes it easy to calculate your shipping fees and send packages yourself. This viewershipped a 24inch picture, but got charged for one twice that size. Tori bach likes selling items on ebay, but not if shes losing money on t. I was selling a tony kinkaid painting. Thats what happened when she sold it print. I packed it up nicely and shipped it. And she paid 33 for a shipping label. But then the shock. Theres no accountability for any of it. They just can charge whatever they want. Turns out ebay charged her 143 for that shipping, way more than expected. I would take a loss now on the picture. No benefit for me to send it at that price. She had used the ebay calculator to figure the shipping cost for a 30inch package weighing 23 pounds. However, ebay said it was much bigger. They said it weighed 90 pounds, although im strong, i cant really even lift 90 pounds. Tori says there is no ways her print was that heavy. Even the mona lisa only weighs 18 pounds. I could understand if we were within reason of a couple pounds, but this was a significant amount of weight. Ebay said it was fedex that charged the higher fee claiming it was an oversized package. 4 feet high, 40 inches wide. In that case fedex calculated the weight based on size, not actual weight. Again, tori said no way. It was not that big. But how to prove the size of a package thats long gone . She contacted 7 on your side. We reached out to both fedex and ebay. Fedex did not explain how it determined the package was so large or how a customer could dispute it. Ebay said it appeared tori did not know how package dimensions are calculated so it did refund that 143 charge as a courtesy. I was going to just live without my money and then i decided to contact 7 on your side and im really glad i did. So how can you avoid surprise shipping fees . Well, you may want to go in person to fedex or the ups store, or you can move the script up, there we go, let them confirm the measurements and provide the label. I dont have a script in front of me here today. I know. Your stories got me thinking, maybe before i ship my package, i should take a picture of the box, the packaging and put a ruler on it. It helps, but nothing is foolproof. Michael, thanks. Lot of good stuff. All right. Hoping for some good stuff for the forecast later tonight. All right.
