Meteorologist mike nicco tracking the changes and whats to come for the rest of the day. I downgraded the storm from a 3 to a 2 at 2 00 this morning when we lost the threat of flooding over the burn scars and the advisory passed. That didnt matter for the morning commute. It was a disaster. I dropped it down to a 1. Light rain and scattered showers will develop. The showers mainly across the north bay. Well have moderate rain still across our south bay mountains. Most of us less than half an inch except in the mountains. Were down to a light storm. Heres a look at radar turn. Still around 237, heading toward albamal parkway, heading through the sinole grade, possibly into the diablo range. Still a lot of moisture out there as you expect from an atmospheric river. Reporter the experts are all studying this spot. They had identified it as a trouble spot before the storm. The plastic storm drain that was here melted away during the fires. They made temporary repairs to try and channel the rain water, but discovered some erosion this and issues downstream. There was a significant volume of debris and gravel and mud in the storm drain system. So crews have been out here immediately removing that so that it does not continue to wash into our watershed and creeks. Reporter city crews spent this week preparing for the rains and overall, they feel like the burned areas in santa rosa were properly protected. Although we didnt get the amount of rain we were expecting, i think for the amount of work weve done, we did really well through the fight. Reporter 1yijim carlson isn too worried about leaving across the street from this trouble spot. Im happy the powers that be are reacting to it, xraying all the stuff. Im a little disappointed in which somebody made a decision to put plastic storm drains in. Reporter city officials tell me that plastic pipes underground is the Industry Standard but they say they will likely reevaluate whether to use plastic at the entrance and exit points. Thats where they burned. As for these homes across the street from this hole, they are not worried about them. They are not issuing an evacuation order.
