No wind here yet, but we will look for the sea breeze to kick up. Cooler today significantly. Highs later on will range from the 60s around the bay, upper 70s in our inland valleys. Still cool at the coast and we still have our beach hazard statement through 9 00 tonight. Carolyn . Thank you, lisa. Breaking this morning, firefighters in San Francisco say one person is dead after a house fire near mt. Davidson. Another person who was rescued is expected to survive. Officials say this fire began around 4 00 this morning at a twostory home on molemo drive near taracita boulevard. Firefighters were able to contain it two hours later. The cause is under investigation. Breaking news in discovery bay. Deputies are investigating a deadly shooting on keats court near wild drive. The Contra Costa Sheriffs Office responded to several calls about a disturbance and a shooting around 1 00 this morning. A lieutenant says they found a man who was shot on the street, neighbors trying to give him cpr. Paramedics tried to treat the man but he later died. Right now deputies do not have a description of a suspect. Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriffs office. Developing news this morning. San Francisco Police are searching for a stabbing suspect. They say someone attacked a man near the paolo street bart station around 6 00 last night. Abc news was near eddie street where paramedics blocked off the street with tape. You can see a monduni bus at th center of the stabbing scene. The victim was taken to the hospital. No word on his condition. A Halloween Costume out of style since the Civil Rights Movement makes a controversial comeback at an east bay staples store. One customer says he was speechless after seeing an employee dressed in blackface. Abc 7 reporter Lonnie Rivera has the story. Maam, where are the cash registers . She turned around and i saw this white lady in blackface. Harriet laphal was offended by this employees Halloween Costume at the Pleasant Hill staples store. That lady over there, i pointed to her, i said, is in blackface. And as a black man, i am very offended. Reporter and her reply . She said it was a sharpie costume. I said, sharpie or no sharpie, as a black man to see a white person in blackface is very offensive. Reporter blackface is a form of theatrical makeup used by white performers to portray black people in the 1800s up until the Civil Rights Movement. The nervous giggle in the store, you know, i felt like it was making fun of africanamericans. Harold left staples frustrated. He said he sat in his car for a few minutes but he couldnt leave. I met with the manager and he said, i know what happened and they already told me. I said, what made you think that was okay . Zt st staples said the employee works for a thirdparty company who contracts with staples stores. Staples said, the question, staples apologizes to any customers that were offended in the store, as well as those that may have viewed a photo on social media. A company that doesnt have a level of sensitivity to the struggle of the people that is a large part of their Customer Base is not a cpany im going to support. A group of about 200 motorcycle riders terrorize drivers all around the east bay, performing side shows, popping wheelies, speeding and driving recklessly. A viewer shared this video from downtown hayward just before 1 00 in the afternoon. A truck was following the bikers and filming them on interstate 880. They also rode through oakland along the san mateo bridge on 580 and into castro valley. The chp says several motorcyclists refused to pull over and drove away recklessly at high speeds. At least five people have been arrested. A unique program in the north bay is helping fire victims. A local nurse is pairing families in need with families who want to help. Reporter these days its nonstop at carrie boysons house. Shes one of the volunteer coordinators which means shes matching fire victims with specific families who are willing and able to donate now. So we have gloria and her husband and her two little boys. Reporter Katherine Raymond just dropped off three carloads of donated items for three families in need evacuated to sebastiapol. It was kind of like christmas. It was extraordinary to see box after box come out of the car. Reporter this program was tailored to give nothing but the things they need. Like a camera for extra wide shoes because starting over is hard enough. There was a steel beam that was our garage frame thats twisted and theres nothing left. Reporter still, this family is asking for very little. This is new. Reporter barely the basics. I think its really great that people are, like, giving. Reporter rising from the ashes of the north bay fires is a strong sense of appreciation and an Even Stronger sense of compassion. When you lose your home, its hard to rebuild a home. Maxwell taken into custody just after 6 00 last night at his scottsdale home. He faces charges of aggravated assault with a Deadly Weapon and disorderly conduct. The 26yearold gained attention when he became the First Major League baseball player to kneel during the National Anthem. Server at a huntsville, alabama restaurant refused to serve him because of his National Anthem protest. The Houston Texans are planning to protest before the National Anthem before the game in seattle. Our Sister Network tells us that 55 to 70 of the teams players could kneel. Kaepernick, as you know, was the first player to kneel or sit in direct protest of Racial Injustice and police brutality. The Players Commission says they want the league to commit to listening to the players grievances. Damages from februarys torrential rain and flooding is getting patched up thanks to volunteers. Abc 7 was at golden wheel Mobile Home Park in san jose when an army of helping hands hammered, patched and eupparetebuilindingd. Silicon valley is helping fix up 38 homes and two nonprofits. Residents at this home lost a car and mobility scooter and the foundation of the home was damaged. Theyve done a tremendous amount of stuff. We got a new furnace, all new concrete in front of the house because it was buckled. Theyre building a deck. Were just kind of overwhelmed. Rebuilding Silicon Valley focuses on helping veterans, seniors and people with disabilities. A man and a woman from Monterey County are accused of looting in the north bay fire zone. Santa rosa Police Arrested shawn craniak and christina marsh after someone saw them take a largescreen tv. Police led them on a high speed chase after ditching their stolen truck and trying to run away. Officers said they found other stolen items in the pickup. The suspects have no ties to Sonoma County. Yesterday quite an emotional day of remembrance for victims of the north bay wildfires. Hundreds of people came out to a ceremony to honor fire victims and First Responders. Abc 7 News ReporterCornell Bernard has the story. Reporter bagpipes play to honor a Community Still fragile and grieving. The night of october 8th, we were all tested. All of us were tested, the community, the fire service, law enforcement. Reporter this was a day of remembrance, a chance for Sonoma County to reflect on what was lost. I dont even know what it feels like to lose a home or lose a loved one in a fire, but i know there is a lot of people in our community dealing with that and theyre going to be dealing with that for a long time. Reporter pastor billy andre lost his home in the fires. He got his family out and grabbed one photo album. And as i opened them up, i realized they were empty. We thought we had all the time in the world to put those pictures in those photo albums. Getting my children out safely was, you know, emotional. Reporter angelique and her son made the sign to thank the First Responders who put their lives on the line. Without them our city would be gone. Reporter throughout the ceremony, the crowd gave First Responders standing ovations. Many say since the fire, the Santa Rosa Community has become one. Honestly, ive never seen a Community Come together so good. I mean, true, we are sonoma strong. Reporter a fire bell was rung 42 times for those lives lost. Representative nancy pelosi said she promises swift federal funds for victims. So many people mourn their loss and are praying for them, but not only that, going to act upon it. A winery in Monterey County is raising money tonight to help wildfire victims in the north bay. You can enjoy food and drinks at the hallowine fire benefit at the folktail winery vin yards. There are prizes. It costs 60. All the proceeds will go to ca wine strong. Thats a Profit Foundation to help the victims. One last chance to score for wildfire victims at tonights game. The shooting guard plans to donate 1,000 for every point for three games. So far hes raised 40,000. Dry and mild for halloween and looking for a wet pattern late in the week. We will be looking at the coolest day one of the coolest days tomorrow as the system passes overhead. Now with the fires contained tourists need to know things are still going and support those restaurants. Reporter just a block away from his 3star kitchen, corey lee is picking up another michelin star for his institute of art. I dont even think about it as a restaurant. Its a project that involves food. While he makes his own creations, this is a star place for chefs. Its kind of fitting the institution has its own star.
