Jill Ann Carl, 58, of Duluth, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at the Solvay Hospice House following a long battle with cancer. Jill was born on May 1, 1964 in Duluth to LeRoy and Jan Pykkonen. Jill graduated from Duluth East in 1982. She was married to Tim Carl from 1987 to 2006. She earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Nursing from the College of St. Scholastica, graduating in 1988. She spent her 33 years of nursing at St. Mary’s Medical Center and worked in the Oncology Unit, MICU, Resource Nurse, Interventional Radiology and retired in 2021 from the ER Department. She enjoyed music, concerts, gardening, cooking and traveling. She loved being a mother and her proudest achievement was her children. Spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren were always the highlight of the day. She was preceded in death by her mother, Jan Nave; her father, LeRoy Pykkonen; nephew, Joseph Carl; former mother-in-law, Connie Carl. Jill is survived by her daughter, Lauren Ann (Aaron) Bennett; her son, Jared Carl; two grandchildren, Ava Ann Bennett and Moxly Shrake; her brother, David (Kathleen) Anderson; her sister, Terry Anderson; life partner, Ray Maruska and his daughter, Blaize (Levi) Shrake; best friend, Sue Lemon; her former husband, Tim Carl; many nieces, nephews and friends. Jill’s family would like to thank Essentia Hospice for the wonderful care they provided to Jill during her final months.
