The candidacy announcement by an Iraq war vet has made a Democratic primary a near-certainty for North Carolina's 11th District House seat held by Republican Madison Cawthorn.
Josh Remillard, a 38-year-old veteran of two combat tours in Iraq now living in Mills River, said he will compete for the district that covers most of Western North Carolina. Remillard was a candidate in 2020 for North Carolina state House 117 District.
"I served in the Army for eight years, including two combat tours; I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and do the hard work of strengthening our economy, fixing a broken health-care system, and improving our kids’ education," Remillard said in a March 10 release.
