On Nov. 30, 2018, World Lacrosse (though it was still known at that time as the Federation of International Lacrosse) received provisional recognition from the International Olympic Committee. It was an essential step toward inclusion in future Games, and the timing was imperative as the IOC has since slowed or ceased granting recognition to new federations.
On Thursday, World Lacrosse took a similar step forward as the IOC Executive Board recommended full recognition for the entity. Now the IOC Membership vote is all that remains, and that could come as soon as next month.
“While today’s decision by the IOC Executive Board represents yet another important milestone for World Lacrosse, we will not rest or stand still," World Lacrosse CEO Jim Scherr said in a statement. "This is a catalyst that will drive and shape our efforts to continue expanding opportunities for participation in lacrosse and improving our capabilities as an international federation.”
