As part of India’s Central Asian Policy, Uzbekistan has emerged as the central country in the region with which India has been actively engaging increasingly over the last few years under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This engagement further solidified with the holding of a recent virtual bilateral summit. On December 11, 2020, Prime Minister of the Republic of India, Narendra Modi and President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, co-chaired a virtual summit between the two countries. This was significant as it marked the first time that India has held a bilateral summit with any country located in the Central Asia.
