The high-level roundtable will discuss the grave situation of trade union rights in Belarus with UN special rapporteurs. The event will provide an opportunity for reflection on how to best achieve implementation of the ILO resolution adopted on 12 June 2023 by the International Labour Conference which called for actions, under article 33 of the ILO Constitution, to secure compliance with the recommendations of the Commission of Inquiry established to examine the observance by the Government of Belarus of the Freedom of Association and Protection of the Right to Organise Convention, 1948 (No. 87) and the Right to Organise and Collective Bargaining Convention, 1949 (No. 98). This high-level round table is part of the action plan adopted in March 2024 by the ILO Governing Body to implement the ILO Conference Resolution. The information shared during the High-level round table will be duly reported to the special sitting of the ILO Committee on the Application of Standards (CAS) held for the purpose of discussing the application of Conventions Nos 87 and 98 by the Government of Belarus and the implementation of the recommendations of the Commission of Inquiry, so long as this Member has not been shown to have fulfilled its obligations. The CAS special sitting will be held on Wednesday 5 June.
