Many leaders are scrambling to craft company policies around COVID-19 vaccines.
Medical and HR professionals told Insider to use simple language and to keep the policy flexible.
Business owners said they're compensating employees for the time they miss while getting vaccinated.
Jason Berry believes it's his responsibility to ensure as many of his 320 employees as possible are vaccinated against Covid-19.
"We don't feel it's our place to tell people what to do with their bodies, so we've decided to make it highly recommended and financially beneficial to them, but we stopped short of mandating it," he said.
The company he cofounded, Knead Hospitality and Design, owns and operates six restaurants in Washington, D.C., and Maryland. Restaurant workers tend to be young, Berry said, and most don't have health insurance, even though it's offered to them.
