How a Cold War-era Navy ship was sunk to become famous diving spot off Florida Keys

Once on the bottom of the sea off Key Largo, the USS Spiegel Grove would be the largest vessel intentionally sunk to create an artificial reef for divers and sea life. The mission was eventually accomplished. But the Spiegel Grove’s journey to the ocean floor was fraught with obstacles, mishaps and adventures.
