Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman tested positive for the coronavirus and said that she believes that some of her Republican colleagues who refused to wear face coverings as lawmakers gathered in a secure room during last week's breach of the U.S. Capitol building may be to blame.
Watson Coleman, a New Jersey Democrat who joined Congress in 2015, will turn 76 on Feb. 6.
"Following the events of Wednesday, including sheltering with several colleagues who refused to wear masks, I decided to take a Covid test. I have tested positive," Watson Coleman wrote in a tweet on Monday.
After House lawmakers were ushered out of the House chamber when supporters of President Trump breached the Capitol last week, they were brought to an undisclosed, secure location for hours.
