Mental health can be isolating.
The number of people who are being diagnosed with mental illness is on the rise. People like Washburn Rural High School girls wrestling coach Damon Parker are speaking out about their struggles.
"Nobody is an island," said Sherrie Vaughn, executive director of NAMI Kansas,a national, state and local mental health alliance. "Everybody has a parent. They have friends. They have neighbors, co-workers, supervisors, employees, fellow congregants.
"Just look at the social sphere and everybody has some interaction or connection with people. Everybody is impacted by that lived experience of mental illness in some form or another."
